Still waiting for this one to arrive,but then I've been waiting since I heard rumours about it a year ago,so what's a few more days.Vitous was the last player to get Garbarek swinging on "Star" from 91-if he does get this band on the road I hope ECM tape it,I'd imagine given some more room in the live setting,sparks could genuinely fly.That was certainly the case when I saw the Star trio live.

Anybody heard Stenson's "Underwear" from 71,with Arild Andersen and Jon Christensen?Not exactly a typical ECM title,I wonder if they'll ever get around to reissuing it-the masters must be OK as one track off it appeared on the Rarum comp.Witchi Tai To's an old favourite and much less Nordic than the "Dansere" follow-up.,look forward to seeing what everyone makes of it.

Just got the new Cassandra Wilson and it's not copy protected like the previous batch of Blue Notes-odd as I thought this would have been a bigger "seller" than the likes of the Moran etc. and thus worth protecting.Still waiting on the Conns,I wonder if they're "nobbled" too.

I've picked up Bleu Regard stuff in the past from Cadence(sounds like this one is worth checking out when I next order from them).

Hadn't come across Jurek's reviews before,is he usually that excited-what was his grammy pick for last year?Just ordered the disc today-it'll be interesting at least.I must admit when I heard Shipp was on the Korg only for "Corridors & Parallels" my heart sank-but I was pleasantly surprised,so maybe it's time to be unpleasantly disappointed this time.For my money "Godspellized" is his masterpiece...so far.

Some good points there Bev,Smith and Lovano don't move me much as players either but sometimes they hit their context and it's good(the early nineties quartet with Sco in the latter's case).And even when it isn't,then there's good stuff going on around them...like the Taylor solo.Check it out,it's a good but not great disc...so far

As it Smith's gig I think it's ToLoScoJoJoRo.Stewart kindly offerred up his second christian name "Rod"(after the singer apparently!)in order to keep the thing going.

Just got this today from the label,sounds promising after one spin.Heavyweight line-up of Lovano,Sco,John Taylor,Patitucci and Stewart aren't just there for the ride.The same sextet are touring the UK in November.

The follow-up to Filles that Miles never made...and with Hutch...I take your word for it ....wow!Let's make some noise and get this out again.The only thing I have with Caliman on is Julian Priester's peerless "Love,Love"-I dare say there are loads of undiscovered gems from that era(if late 60's jazz is your bag)Anybody know if Tootie Heath's Kawaida has been reissued anywhere?

For me any release with Byron is worth checking out-he associates with a good bunch of players.Can't say I play A Fine Line a whole lot nor Nu Blaxploitation but yeah go for Tuskegee(a great debut!)and Romance...Music For 6 Musicians is also worth checking out as is the latest You Are#6(strong Latin edge to these two)Notice from the Jazzmatazz site he's on at least one of Ralph Alessi's two new ones-am tracking them down at present.Bug Music and the Mickey Katz record are also 2 to wait on...until you get hooked...he's not one to be pigeonholed anyway.

Promotion for this in the UK has been zilch so far-I didn't even know it was out yet!Ordered it today anyway and look forward to it.I agree with Ed,Osby and his circle(Moran,Harris etc.)have been about the best things on BN for a good while and he caught my ear on those 2 Andrew Hill BN comebacks.Don't care so much for the M-Base stuff,but the last few releases have been getting better and better.

Yeah,damn odd selection-are any of those players truly overrated and who's "overrating" them?Maybe I'm missing the point but Moondoc,Chapin,Leo artists-these are hardly up there as current Verve signings?or on the hallowed BN for that matter.The first name that jumps into my head is Wynton,but it's almost a cliche to say that(and recent events show perhaps that's he's plummetting toward underrrated-and editing here realise that he's WM and we dare not speak his name)Crazy question-outside of the "superstars"(usually all easy listening chantreuses...what is the correct plural for that)who is genuinely overrated in this music?Maybe the question should have been who has a reasonably good following but you can't stand!

Said pretty much the same on the BNBB(remember that?)Couw's sewn it up on this thread for me-it's a nice record!That's about it-various women in my life love it-I think it pales after the first 7 tracks-more of a "new" country record than something that belongs on Blue Note,but we've had that story haven't we?I hope(like,refreshingly,others have here)that she can build on it and I'd like to hear where she goes from here...but she ain't no Joni(contd. in my private universe where Ms. Mitchell sits on her throne alongside Miles...and if he tried slapping her about...)

Discipline is the pick of the 80's sets for me(remeMber being blown away by Frame By Frame on the OGWT)-Hopefully I can get back to Thrak et al at some stage(sometimes music "takes time" and often rewards better as such))but dare I say it the recent stuff is a bit "heavy" for me.

The one thing I liked about Relayer was the abscence of Wakeman,Moraz was a far more interesting player-it's their most jazz-rock album to my ears.I agree that Wakeman was the weakest link in the band,a pretty tasteless character in the main(didn't he blow all his money on Rollers?-and those solo albums of his...unlistenable).Crimson also went jazz rock around the same time "Lark's Tongue.." and "Starless.." are my two favourites by a long stretch...but I always felt Fripp a bit faddish-prog-rock in the early 70's,jazz-rock in the mid then a Talking Heads fixation with the first comeback band with Belew(a former Heads sideman).Great music for all that but after that I must admit I find the stuff a bit soulless-must try and get to hear the new one tho',seems like a few people rate it here. Will we're on the subject roughly any old Rush fans out there?

Here in the UK we got a slightly truncated series-Alexander's comments above were on the money,the early episodes were engrossing and "curators" such WM and Crouch were enlightening but once we hit the 50's... I recall Burns hadn't gotten into the music for long by the time he made the programs,let's hope he's still "learning" and there's a Jazz part 2 somewhere on the horizon and he disowns that last woeful episode of the first series!

Some of Hackett's early solo albums were really nice-up to Spectral Mornings anyway-met him once and(drunkenly) said that he was going down the wrong(AOR)path with "Highly Strung"-I agree they plummeted when he left,then sadly he did likewise tho' I don't know what he's up to now.Anyone remeber that album he did with Steve Howe?GTR!!!Freeway rock....bad move
