  5. Shawn, I hope you can turn things around and find some happiness and peace in your life - whatever that may entail and whatever roads you have to take to find it. Perhaps taking a break from Organissimo will be helpful to you. Posting on Organissimo and having a CD collection isn't what life is about - tho there are times when I forget that myself. There are things in this world that don't cost anything and might help you to feel better. Take a walk, listen to the birds and look at what nature has given you. Smile at some of the people you see and say good morning or good afternoon. Volunteer for a few hours a week at a soup kitchen/free lunch program or at your local library. There are a lot of possibilities. Or you could do some volunteer work using the skills you've been trained for. I read recently that when someone has been out of work, it's worthwhile for them to do some volunteer work relating to their job skills, fill in the blank area in their resume, and just don't mention that it was volunteer work they did. I hope that the above doesn't come across as b.s. It's not meant that way. You seem like a good guy. Getting out of the slump you're in and connecting with other people in your "real" life in addition to cyberspace can only benefit you and the people you connect with.

  8. I've had a couple of kidney stones in my lifetime and all I can say is I wouldn't want to be him. I'm sure the team has some strong pain killers he can take, but still.... And if he is on strong pain killers, I wouldn't want to be an opposing hitter.

  10. That was my initial motivation for getting this disc - but Ben's playing is very interesting, and the tune he wrote is nice, and the way he connects to the tunes written by the other players on the date. Ben with Thad Jones and Zawinul .... The three tracks missing are alternates, one with Thad, the other two are quartets - has anyone here heard them on the Milestone twofer? If they are without reverb, it would mean that was added afterwards. But I hesitate to buy a used copy of that double LP, since I already have the other date - the Bill Harris Fantasy LP with Ben. I can remember a mention of the reverb when the album was reviewed in Down Beat at the time of its original issue. Can't find the review online.

  12. Don't like the reverb, but there's enough there to keep me interested and listen to it now and again.

  16. Your friend seems like someone who thinks too much. But what do I know? Dave is not only a friend but also one of best film critics around: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave_Kehr Not that that automatically makes him right about Woody Allen or anything else, but he has been a "student of the game" for some 40 years. No offense intended. I'll have to check out some of his writing. None taken. Just wanted to make it clear that Dave wasn't only a friend. Did some quick reading online. I'll have to get When Movies Mattered. Anyone who chose Hitchcock's Family Plot as his favorite film of 1976 just might be my kind of critic. edited for spelling.

  19. Haven't seen Midnight in Paris yet, but it'd be nice if Woody has used Peter Stampfel & co.'s version of "Midnight in Paris" (from Have Moicy) in his soundtrack. Not much chance of that, so I'll just have to play it in my head when I see the film.
