mr. jiz, i agree with mike...it is a bit stiff and heavy handed. overdone for sure. has some good moments but not a very interesting performance overall. too tight.

bergan is right that about half of the women posters do not really ever post about jazz (ie. 2/4 or 3/6). (though neither does he) some are too preoccupied with the pending US invasion of canada. though i mean for all this talk about tastes, if i met someone who liked the same music as me, it would set off red flags up the wazoo. no way would i step to them. i am a woman, by the way. dumpy mama, not dumpy dad.

this does not make me weep for society. plys in five years, you keep them in mint, you can sell them to someone in japan for like 2,500 bucks. -
black saint does that also. better than nothing. dmg is the worst-selling CDRs unoficcially for 15 bucks a pop.
-
roman bunka can shit music on you on a number of embryo albums. perhaps you would dig "we keep on".
-
http://www.nypl.org/research/sc/scl/MULTIM...T/jazzhist.html you can watch the whole thing. works pretty well.

yoyoyo..just trying to help. sorry. not that i am saying that is a bad album. just maybe others wouldn't like it. but you are correct that nat adderley's career went long after that one. i guess i share your confusion, MG. by the way, and sorry if this was posted earlier in this thread, but on that new york public library site someone (rooster ties?) gave a link to, there is a very very long and interesting nat adderley interview video. i believe it was jimmy owens who was asking the questions. the art taylor interview by warren smith is also excellent. taylor comes off as arrogant, a bit racially prejudiced, a bit paranoid but overall a cool guy.

enigmatic ocean is a classic also, don't forget. he went toe to toe with alan holdsworth! -
i think it was jeramy stevens who dropped the passes and he was more known for being big than being quick. he was a big but i guess athletic tight end. but he was also a headcase with legal and substance issues! not that i am going to argue with you for surmising there is a lack of quality WRs. however perhaps you should also consider the quality of those passing the ball to the WRs...

i guess the reason i dig the CFL is that it is tough to get a shot in the NFL...plenty of talented people don't get a proper shot. there is enough talent to go around...i mean a lot of the NFL rostering has to do with familiarity between coaches and players, players knowledge and fit in a particular system, etc...
-
just so you know, i read these updates. i enjoy it. i respect your interest in the CFL. i think it is a cool league and it deserves some attention. i wish ricky ray had gotten more of a chance with the jets! i thought he had something to offer. i wonder if pacman jones will soon be in the CFL!

do you go through a nice mixer or just a small pre-amp thingie? what is your setup?
-
how can bill braxton be the first person to mention memphis to new york in a seven page patton thread...jesus. though i personally enjoy sister album accent on the blues more...even with the terrible drum phasing.

you are one of my least favorite posters due to your nauseating use of those head/face icon things instead of actual words, yet i do not block you along with half the board because you are knowleadgable and sometimes your impish humor wins me over. and manny lunch must think you are a swinging cat. happy birthday!!!
-
what are you listening to right now is the biggest waste of space on this board. people just say what they are listening to, but there is no discussion or anything. it is a waste.
-
wouldn't that be part of recommendations probably or miscellaneous?
-
yeah why couldn't you just put in roach? at worst you get a freddie roach thread too....just don't read it.

does a second of the thollot sound like proto-techno? i can't tell if i got a bad burn with some random techno tune accidentally overdubbed or if it is truly part of the music. some of the thollot reminds me of umma-gumma ish pink floyd.

happy birthday, clifford gordon.

you could call yourself bloodreign if you want to be tougher. or bloodyrain but i like bloodreign better. it sounds like a bad movie.

Jazz musicians' wit and humor. Examples?

my sort of friend played in his college jazz ensemble and they went to newport for the festival one year and the pianist of the college band saw les mccann and went up to him to say he too was a jazz pianist and really liked mccann's work. mccann said "white boy playin' jazz? I DON'T THINK SO." and everyone i guess was a little surprised. then mccann asked him, "boy, you ever get a hardon?" -
ali fakre toure is (was) very long island hippie trying to play djembe freshman year of college to me. i can't go back. like that foday musa suso/herbie hancock album or material live in japan.

for some reason afrobeat is one genre that wore thin a lot more quickly than i expected. i never need to hear another kuti cut again. i saw an afrobeat band a few weeks ago-a jewish guy and a latino guy on keyboards and another jewish guy DJing sort of in the back and two african-american women backup singing and doing call and response with the keyboardists. it was incredibly inauthentic in every way but very amusing. others disliked it.
