    LOCKJAW

yeah the heavy hitter is v good. interesting conceptually-all pairs of songs segued together. good band w. al dailey on piano.
  3. http://doteasy.com/ i mean with the 0/yr hosting, would the issue be storage space? things could easily be archived somewhere lamer? do they need to be saved? maybe there is enough space if it is just text?
  4. can't you buy a domain name for 25/yr and then use free board software and set something up. i guess bandwith would get used up quick? i think potentially it would cost only 25/ys for a board like this. or a free blogspot which is an annoying format but maybe only let's say jsangrey and clifford_thornton and magnificent goldberg and aric would be able to start topics and everyone else would respond to their topics? it would have variety and flavor?
  5. this is the sort of self-centered arrogance which is ruining the board.
  6. the ricotta is pretty decent. always nice to hear chris spedding. it has spedding, bryan spring, chris laurence and riccota. it sounds a lot like gary burton's stuff at the time but maybe a little less edgy. you know, the stuff with coryell, swallow and haynes/moses. i think there is even a burton tune and i have read spedding interviews where he admits to the influence. the only issue is the longest track has the leader on sax? for some reason rather than his main axe(s). i am not sure what the reasoning was for this. it's a fine song but it just irks me for some reason. maybe at the time the leader enjoyed playing sax. he's fine. i would have rather heard him on vibes if the song was going to be the longest, though. the songs in general aren't so long. laurence is on acoustic, not electric bass.
  7. steve novosel-fathead newman's "captain buckles"
  8. cliffe-secret asylum was originally on black lion? interesting....this CD reissue doesn't have much info. the cover is so dorky and happy and not consistent with the vibe of the music. well i guess maybe it is if russell thinks of his to me harsh and metallic playing as happy and excstatic. anyway, rushton is way too busy, to my ears. skittering and annoying.
  9. happy birthday felz!!!
  10. yeah frankie dunlop was F'n fun with monk.
  11. i just bought a buddy terry prestige LP but it ain't that one (has harold mabern is all i remember). that one sounds good. i hadn't heard it. lean on him is eh. some good parts but i wouldn't pick it up and not much connection to the blackstone legacy sound! i used to be down on awareness but it has grown on me. but anyway, pure dynamite is the most similar to ths AOTW, imo. he was probably over his head but the other musicians were certainly capable of carrying him!
  12. buddy terry shat out a few albums you might enjoy if you like blackstone legacy (i don't personally like it that much). i like this buddy terry album, "pure dynamite" better. it was recently reissued on CD. it has eddie henderson and woody shaw and kenny barron and joanne brackeen and lenny white and billy hart and mtume and stanley clarke and maybe airto? in addition to terry. from 72? or 73. more of an acoustic sound (less e-piano). but same vibe, imo. and has guys from both the hancock group and from the blackstone legacy album. another terry has been reissued on CD also, this one a little earlier-71 or 72. with cecil bridgewater, stanley cowell, roland prince, mtume, buster williams, victor gaskin, mickey roker. this one is a little more composed and less rambling than pure dynamte (it is called "awareness"). just fyi...
  13. secret asylum just got reissued on CD. it's ok. i don't think i think much of rushton as a drummer. very amateur british guy playing free jazz sounding. nothing really to recommend him...he's weak. he also killed the ICA album for me.
  14. would rather listen to liquid liquid...
  15. why did ricotti pick up the sax for the longest track on "our point of view"? why not stick with his main axe if it is to be the longest track?
  16. actually...who has watched this giant centipede or two on youtube? i am not advocating it. it is one of the scariest horrifying things i have seen and the owner of the animals is obviously a bit psychotic. maybe i sound prude now but holy g_d jesus. i am always fearful now when i dangle my feet under my desk with no shoes on.
  17. within two clicks, i can go watch idiot canadian police kill a polish man at an airport, i can watch two women eat poop out of a plastic cup or i can watch a gigantic centipede chase, kill and devour a cute little mouse. it's called the internet and you better get used to it because it is your past, present and future!
  18. the guy typing himself to death? that is offending you? how do you leave your house every day without pooping blood in disgust at the horrors around you if his simple cartoon bothers you so? my g_d.
  19. do you think tyner was some sort of slut, throwing himself towards whatever record company wanted him? no he was a classy guy and he would sign a proper contract.
  20. chewy, i dig you. you are a soulful black cat who knows how to swing. please post more. why did mcgriff historically have such crappy session credits? i have noticed this on other albums of the era.
  21. there is nothing to be concerned about. jesus. caiman is shady anyway. should be avoided.
  22. jesus '75 was a good year for him.
  23. i wish they would shit out some steve khan reissues....some of his late 70s/early 80s albums are pretty good. if that doof scofield can get so much props (respect) why can't khan with a proper reassesment? he's got his own sound and style going on.
  24. he is an underrated victim of the concord debacle..
