  1. Thanks, sounds like I should check out more of Rudd's music. I like eclectic.
  2. Just bought myself the Sam Rivers box. Looking forward to receiving this in July!
  3. Anyone knows how large percentage of the Blue Note sessions that were recorded by Rudy Van Gelder in Englewood Cliffs? He must have been quite a busy man. Should he write a book?
  4. Sun Ra - The Lost Arkestra Vol.1 (Kindred Spirits)
  5. John Fahey - America (4 Men With Beards - Reissue)
  6. Peggy Lee - Is That All There Is? (Capitol)
  7. Sounds like good stuff. Bear Family is one of the more serious reissue companies out there, with thorough liner notes, fine mastering and original sources. Just ordered a couple of their Charlie Rich compilations "It Ain't Gonna Be That Way - Complete Smash" and "Best Ballads". Waiting eagerly for those from Red Lick.
  8. Quite interesting link that one, thanks. Hope they get to release this album in not too long. Would like to hear this.
  9. This new Roswell Rudd album got an interesting description over at Dusty Groove. Anyone checked this out yet?
  10. Fred McDowell (Arhoolie)
  11. Interesting with a picture of Rev.Gary Davis on a Lightnin' Hopkins record. And here is a picture of Son House on a Hopkins compilation. Quite creative.
  12. I have a MK2, a solid as it gets and a great sounding turntable. These two forums could give you some good advice before making your choice: http://www.vinylengine.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=18&sid=f8ed2787fc59998fc9621d9d5af24faf http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=28 These can also give you some recommendations for a good phono stage. If you buy a used table, you might also need a new cartridge. The Ortofon 2M series goes well with a lot of setups.
  13. The two last ones depend on the eyes that see maybe.
  14. That lp was stolen from my dorm room in 1962 and I never replaced it. Now listening to Sonny Rollins' There Will Never Be Another You as a result of another thread. There is a great vocal by Jack on "All The Way" on this one. Much spirited playing all over here by the band, not on the level of the classics "Think Well Of Me" and "Mis'ry And The Blues" maybe, but a very fine album.
  15. Which is a contradictio in adiecto, of course, hence the grinning emoticon... While, if you look at my link above, you can get a complete Suse distribution with applications for $5. Quite good value I would say.
  16. Jack Teagarden - Jack Teagarden!!! (Verve)
  17. Looking forward to read this book which seems to focus on his music. Cite: Thirdly, this book contains a wealth of original material. I have interviewed approximately one hundred and sixty musicians and friends in the writing of this book. Many of them felt that the last biography focused primarily on Chet’s lifestyle, rather than the music he left behind. I like to think that ‘Funny Valentine’ paints a more balanced portrait, whilst correcting many of the errors that appeared in the last book.
  18. Roland Kirk - Volunteered Slavery (Atlantic)
  19. Sun Ra - Soul Vibrations Of Man (Saturn Research reissue)
  20. You can in addition to tranemonk's good advice use System Mechanic to clean up other riff raff files on your computer. I used that before when running Windows. After that install Linux and your troubles are gone for good. http://www.linuxcd.org/view_distro.php?id_distro=46&ref=distrowatch
