Kenny Burrell “Midnight Blue” Blue Note Japan/Tower Records (exclusive) SHM-SACD
-
Great to hear. I can understand some of the bashing of the family releases for various reasons, but this one was a winner.
-
John Coltrane “Crescent” Impulse reissue LP Never tire of this music. Probably my most played Coltrane release.
-
Herbie Hancock “Empyrean Isles” Blue Note Japan SHM-SACD Great sounding edition of this classic Blue Note session. Tony Willams always draws my attention here.

Getting ready for the 50th Anniversary edition that will be released Friday by listening to this SACD. Grateful Dead “Blues for Allah” Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab SACD
-
Mario Adnet “Saudade Maravilhosa” Selo cd Bright and silky textures of Adnet’s guitar and arrangements in stellar sound.

Tania Maria & Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen “Tania Maria In Copenhagen 1978/79” Stunt 2 cd set, disc 2, “Tania Maria Live” 1978 I’ve been ignoring Ms. Maria too long, once again. Even this early on her music is fully formed, fully her own. With Mark Berteraux on bass and Andre Ceccarelli on drums.

Starting off with an album that sounds better when I can turn it up more. . . will revisit it later. Jose James “1978” Rainbow Blonde cd Funky, dnaceable, R&B crooning James music. Nice!

Well that's too bad. I feel that the Studios box is the best thing they released in a long time!
-
Mine too, ever since I bought the Barclay issue of this LP in Swaziland (Eswatini) in '69.
-
I found the last box set to have very good sound. I'm in for this one. I'm a huge Hendrix nut with lots of boots. . . I buy what the estate puts out.

An announcement just in from Experience and Legacy that I find exciting: THE JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE: BOLD AS LOVE THE AXIS: BOLD AS LOVE SESSIONS BOX SET COMING NOVEMBER 7 Experience Hendrix L.L.C. and Legacy Recordings, are releasing Bold As Love by The Jimi Hendrix Experience on November 7. Produced by Janie Hendrix, original Experience recording engineer Eddie Kramer, and John McDermott, this expansive collection is available as either a five vinyl LP plus Blu-ray, or four CD plus Blu-ray set. The deluxe box set includes the original stereo and mono mixes of Axis: Bold As Love remastered from the original mixes created by Hendrix, the album’s producer Chas Chandler and original engineer Eddie Kramer. Kramer and engineer Chandler Harrod recently created brand new immersive Dolby ATMOS mixes of the entire 13 song album. The box set presents an additional 40 alternative versions, unreleased studio takes, demos, live tracks and television appearances from the album’s gestation and recording period, 28 of which have never-before-seen the light of day. One of these tracks, a previously unreleased October 1967 studio demo of “Stone Free/Up From The Skies [Demo],” has been made available today.

I saw him when he was around 70. Still a force of nature!

Duke Ellington “The Great Concerts London & New York 1963 - 1964” Nimbus 2 cd set, disc 1, London concert A little warmer this morning. Dry, cool air, eerily silent after a burst of blue jay braying. I think an owl or hawk were about. This was quite a band! I just love the Ellington outfit when they are “on” and this was one of those nights, in London. Great way to start the day.

This album seems to be a nice followup to “Serenade to Sweden” . . . the mood seems right. It’s been 21 years now since its release. . . I think we can call it a “classic.” It seems to deserve such a designation. Marc Johnson “Shades of Jade” ECM cd Marc Johnson – double bass Joe Lovano – tenor saxophone (7 tracks) John Scofield – guitar (4 tracks) Eliane Elias – piano (8 tracks) Joey Baron – drums Alain Mallet – organ (2 tracks)

Alice Babs and Duke Ellington “Serenade to Sweden” cd Now a focus on Ellington trombones and Alice Babs, an excellent session recorded in Stockholm. If ever there is a jazz album that could use the Plangent Process. . . I think this one would benefit heavily, there seems to be a wobble to the sound.

Mark Masters Jazz Ensemble featuring Gary Smulyan “American Jazz Institute presents Ellington Saxophone Encounters” A very well-recorded swinging disc that has scratched an itch for Ellington music.
-
Dora Morelenbaum “Pique” Mr. Bongo cd The daughter of favorite Brazilian musicians of mine, Jacques and Paula Morelenbaum. Nice debut recording from last year.
-
Yusef Lateef “Atlantis Lullaby–The Concert from Avingnon” Elemental Music 2 cd set, disc 2 Bass – Bob Cunningham Drums – Albert “Tootie” Heath Piano – Kenny Barron Soprano Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Flute – Yusef Lateef Recorded live at Cloitre des Celestins in Avignon, France on July 19th, 1972. John Coltrane “Crescent” Impulse reissue LP Playing this after system changes. . . and boy does it sound GOOD. Love this music! And then. . . . Monday Michiru “Tomorrow’s Sunrise” cd 383×612 34.8 KB

Walter Smith III “three of us are from Houston and Rueben is not” Blue Note cd Mr. Smith’s release from last year. He and Moran make a great team!

My interest is drawn to the fact that Mr. Howarth has been enlisted to use his Plangent Process. That process yields intriguing results.
