Good advice from Laton. I ended up deciding I had to have all the Bix material and went the Origin Jazz route, all the material in four volumes. Excellent sound on those as well. Best sound I've heard, actually. www.originjazz.com There are a few Bix threads here. . . I'll see if I can find a good one and bring it up.

Just one of many here. . . Another one to mention. . . . Was just listening to some Black & White recordings of T-Bone Walker. I think if I had the Mosaic it would be one of the top ten most played ones. Love that material!

Brownie, I mentioned the Parker as being in my top five. One of the Mosaics that had possibly the most care in production and man it shows. A real favorite! Fantastic document for the future.

Thing is there is a component of Mosaic purchasers who are not members of this forum. Believe it or not! I even know one, who is into exactly the type of stuff as the Bix/Tram/Tea and the Lee/Christy who doesn't even go on the internet, and he has pals that are into more prebop than postbop who shop at Mosaic. So. . . I guess I'm not that cynical, and I guess I am willing to believe that these could be items "moving". . . .

Hey thanks gentlemen, didn't mean to hijack the thread. Okay, here's the GOOD news part of the equation: we're being released after tomorrow to go home for about ten days, so we're going to be traveling home on Thanksgiving day, and we'll be going to the clinic in Austin, about a mile from our house, instead of in Houston, on Friday. I'm going to get to spend some time with my cat, my stereo, and probably work half a week. Good times ahead!

Going to the clinic with my wife. . . for blood testing, possibly a transfusion of platelets or red blood cells, probably for a dressing change of her central venous catheter. Sound like fun?

Erik, YES the Dragon set is legit. Back in the days when the MD estate put the squeeze on and all these boots fled from the cd store shelves, the Dragon remained. They must either have dealt with the estate or have inalienable international rights. Upgrade wise. . .yes this is better sounding than the Natasha. I have neither of those with me here in this second "home" but from memory, yes there is a bit more of Trane material on the Dragon, as well as all that (really good) stuff with Stitt.

I've heard all this material on boots I believe. You won't be disappointed.

Right. I think Bird's music is so wonderful, I'd rather hear it in challenged sound than many other recordings in glorious sound. But that's me! The man was a freakin' musical force of nature. Sure, almost any of the Verve fifties recordings, to amplify what Mike points out, are quite decent sounding, and a good entry point if fidelity matters do keep one at bay.

Those look good. I hope they sound better than the more conventional powered HK speakers that I have with my work PC. They're awful. Mud.

Cool, thanks Mike. When I first saw W. C. he had a killer Hammond player in his band. He and Omar and the Howlers were the only two bands I remember with Hammond's prominently featured. Great stuff!

He was already a seasoned member of the Austin Scene in 1980 when I first started seeing him. That would have been after his SRV time (I knew of Triple Threat of the seventies, but didn't think W. C. was involved). The real deal as Mike says.

That Don Cherry unreleased Savoy apparently was never even intended to be a Savoy. And yes, it was released to the download throng in the last year, sort of coupled with some Contemporary 5 stuff.
