  1. I ordered this. . . I have no James Brown of this vintage and this is likely a really good series . . . . Also ordered a four cd set of Tom Jones for my wife. . . 20 bucks. And if you're a Peggy Lee fan, check out the "Classics & Collectibles" imported two cd set they're selling for 10 bucks! This is a really nice set with some rareties inside including duets with Jim Backus. . . and Jimmy Rowles.
  2. Well, I'm not handing him a pass. I think it's weird. . . . Why aren't there lawyers all over it? Has he done some legal work already, behind the scenes, in advance of release? I sure don't have answers.
  3. Third time through, and I'm enjoying this one. Nice bass clarinet and trumpet and accordian.
  4. Or for three cds as the case would be here!
  5. Well, what I meant by "stereo lp like" was that the channel separation was not as pronounced as on a lot of contemporaneous cds, more like that channel separation on lps. I had to have Mosaic replace a few cds on that Mosaic set that had skipping and other problems. After that I had a set that I like. . . .What I like about these cds is that they erred by omission; they didn't have a thin shrill sound like some others, for example the Rivers and Morgan.
  6. Listening to Luxembourg May 16, 1972. A great "The Other One"!
  7. I have the cd set. The stereo separation is not as wide as some of the McMastered cds I've in my collection, but stereo separation there is (sounds sort of stereo lp like to me).
  8. www.jackteagarden.com
  9. Another fine Waters production!
  10. The only other one I remember seeing is a Chet Baker Live at the Forum Theater. . . but I think there probably were a few more.
  11. That's right. . .haven't developed the taste yet. Next decade maybe! I've actually got a dvd recorder at home and I'm going to use that to transfer a lot of old band tapes. Most all my machines will read the blanks including my best system (with a modified Sony SACD/DVD player as the source) and it allows more information to be stored, probably as much as three or four times cdr length, and you can set it to make indexes automatically every five minutes, which is just right for all those different takes of The Blue Flames doing "Party Door," "Deborah's New Bed" or "The King of LA!"
  12. Well, you have a number of options of standalone cd recorders that act almost the same as cassette decks recording to cdr. . . . I thought the Terapin models (which are geared towards converting VHS tapes to Video cdrs but I'm pretty sure they all do cassette audio to cdr) would be a nice funny response. I don't have any experience with them, and I'm not sure that they are still made; i mostly have seen them on ebay going at lowish prices. I myself use an HHB Burnit Pro model now, a very nice machine that allows one to use regular PC blanks (a lot of the standalones use Audio cdrs which generally cost more) and allows a lot of level adjustment, fade in and out, etc. Not cheap, but my experience is that cheap machines don't last long at all. Now of course you can also rn an audio in to your pc and record that way. THAT is something I haven't ever done, but it's not rocket science. (Doesn't mean I'd ever get it off the ground, but I know you could!)
  13. I keep getting an error message. Probably for the best.
  14. I don't have that one either (not that big an MJQ fan). I'm not sure I would trust the eMusic download to be exactly the same as the RVG disc though. . . .
  15. Amen. He really shines on that one.
  16. You really doubt that RVG is doing these remasters? I think that's rather silly. I have no doubt he's at the helm.
  17. I don't have Red Garland's Piano on RVG. But the Prestige RVGs i have purchased I think have excellent sound. I guess I'll just disagree with a lot of the comments. I AM tempted by the Prestige RVGs because I find the sound of those I have desirable, and they have selected very good titles music wise. My guess is that the series is being successful, as it is continuing at a good pace. I see no reason why an 80 year old engineer should be banned from employment with results like this. (The RVGs produced now are quite different from the first batches of JRVGs, many of which I enjoy more than most seem to). And sure there is a lot of marketing hype at the core in both the Blue Note and Prestige series, but I suspect it takes marketing hype to reach a certain portion of the buyers; we longtime jazz fans aren't the target market per se, though I've become a part of the buying base as I can afford them. (I'm buying a lot fewer discs this past year and for the near future or I would have all the titles released so far).
  18. Scott and I know which Greg we're talkin' about!
  19. She is possibly the most beautiful creature on Earth... Classic beauty...I'm smitten. If I think really hard, I can remember one or two of my early girlfriends looking like Scarlett too. . . !
  20. I disagree with ole Clem more and more and his (as I perceive it) increasing arrogance is galling. . . but post on you crazy diamond. Just realize you're not catchin' many flies. . . .
  21. I guess I should have put a smiley in there Scott. Once Greg was my friend, and then I tried to talk to him about some of his ideas and attitudes, and he returned the favor and well. . .it got ugly and went on from there. I wish him well.
  22. You could run the tape deck into one of these Terapin recorders!
  23. Many many more happy ones! *party*
  24. Right. . . I have both the US three cd set and the three two cd sets from France. The latter have all alternates and masters. . . but the cds are shorter than the cds in the US set (the French cds mirror the two lp sets and each are just over forty minutes long or so I believe). The French cds sound good, have a wetter sound than the American cds (reverb added).
  25. I'll just pretend you didn't almost call me Greg M! I don't mind the narrowed soundstage myself, that sounds a lot like the way I hear music in clubs myself. The tonality does improve with the reversed polarity on many JRVGs.
