  1. I'm drinking a mug of Ruta Maya medium roast coffee, excellent coffee from a local community run coffee house which supports a collective of organic growers in Mexico and roasts the beans here in Austin themselves. FANTASTIC stuff.
  2. AKA, I just am not a drinker. I WAS a drinker in my early twenties, looking back now alarmingly so as in rural Ohio where I was encamped the boredom was cut with a dull knife thick, and the culture I traveled in was busy sedating themselves. Then I discovered two wheel vehicles, first off the road and then on and I quickly vowed not to have more than a beer or two and ride and I had to ride so that tempered my habits. Then when I ended up being in Austin for another handful of years I had two close friends. male and female, that individually messed their lives up big with the demon drink, one even ending hers in relation to her alcoholism and the taste curdled in my gut. Right after that I found my true love in a woman whose father and two brothers had been/are alcoholics and the fact that I took little pleasure in spirits was a big cementing plus for me. So. . . now and then in the safety of my home with a few friends I'll have a few. And sleep well . . . very well. .. before too long! I'd seen this brown ale before but had no idea what it would taste like. I tend towards Dutch and Scandinavian darker brews otherwise.
  3. I had two of these this evening, with a dinner guest. She introduced me to this last time she came by. . . I really like this!
  4. I love tchai. . . if I can't drink it at my favorite place for tchai and indian food, the Clay Pit, Austin, then I go for this, cold mixed with milk: I'm not a fan of the Oregon Tchai.
  5. I agree, the "Bix Restored" series on Origin Jazz is really the way to go for Bix, the complete story. . . . I've had to have the complete story. . .but not everyone does. But the sound (Davies masters with some eq from Michael Keiffer) is excellent!
  6. I would recommend if you can find it the two cd Bix entry in the RCA "Jazz Tribune" series. . . a French started series of two cd sets of reissues, many of which were also released in the U. S. I like the Bix entry in the series, it's a fair overview, and it shouldn't be too hard to find. Sound is good.
  7. Ultimately I think there's no agenda behind it, it's a coding error. They have a few, such as the phenomena that occur when two artists are the featured artists on one disc and someone puts it in the system and then all of both's titles may be conjoined together as well. That bites! But I still think it's a great site.
  8. I'm not sure I'd say this group sounds like no other Coleman group! I heard them here in Austin and liked how they sort of sounded like the early quartet recordings to me. . . . This is going to be GREAT!
  9. Heh, that's what I have! It would be too much if I were closer to the border.
  10. I'm not going to get upset about it; I have the music in the box set, and I'm sure the K2 sounds better but. . . . I'm just sick and need a cure. Just placed another order. . . guess I can fill some Christmas stockings at a good price!
  11. No, I did NOT get FIve Spot. And yet some people whose orders are not yet shipped or just shipped seem to have! They called in and GOT OURS~! -_-
  12. Definitely a good one! Was released here on the Memphis Archives label.
  13. Seriously, the versions I've heard are pretty humiliating, IMNSO, compared to Slim Harpo or Etta James - an outlook with which I'm sure Pigpen would agree. I think the Dead and Pigpen had different intentions than Slim and Etta etc. with the material. . . . I love the way the band played these numbers behind him, and I love the way that Ron worked the audience with preaching and the off-the-cuff remarks . . . . I like the Dead tons and like many other perfformances of other material, but I just really respond to these features for Ron strongly. You suck!
  14. Looks like a good set . . . original art and liners. . . probably going to sound great. . . less than fifty bucks preorder at cduniverse. . . . MUST RESIST!
  15. Made you look didn't they?
  16. I've actually learned to like Don Goldie a lot. . . it took time. Yes, the Capitol sides are great. It would be nice if some of these came out through EMI as individual cds. (Yeah, I know. . . Collectables.)
  17. I'm a stone cold Teagarden fan and that's a fact Jack! I enjoy so many of his recordings that it's hard to choose a favorite, but in a lot of ways the Roulettes are great, the Verves are great (including the one not on cd yet) and yet I would say I react the strongest to his recordings (mainly with others) in the thirties.
  18. Got my second package today at last. . . Whew. Exactly one month and one day from the day of order! All these K2s. . .ah!
  19. Sad news.

I don't remember the sound being off on that. I also believe there is another one. . . I'd have to look through my collection, but I think I have/had two.

That was an amazing series of cds. . . I bought the Monk and Mingus ones when I could, and glad I did. I believe all these have appeared since in another guise . . . .

Jack, I understand what you meant, now, of course. Yes, the "Live in Europe" was rechanneled for stereo. UGH. It still made me so damned excited with the amazing performance by Tony Williams though! That was so inspiring. . . when I first heard it (sometime in the early seventies) it made me want to get a drumset!

Music is great. Not sure I'd say it sound better than really good remasterings of Live in Europe, but it sounds good, the recording of an FM broadcast I believe. Great music. Like Jack I bought this when it first came out and even found a second copy later. . . .Haven't seen a copy for sale at less than thirty dollars for a long time.
  24. Thanks for that quote, I remembered it a little differently. Yes, Betty, Jimi, Miles. . . a triangle of energy!
  25. Well he probably meant that as well, but Noel was no "hillbilly"--I'm pretty sure that particular reference was to the influence (strong, compositionally and vocally) of Dylan on Hendrix.
