  1. Yeah. . . sorry in some ways to be spreading my illness. . . but it's got a lot of happy symptoms!
  2. I'm ahead of you! Have had it a month or more. . .and I agree; phenomenal!
  3. Hope all is well. Sad sad news.
  4. Many more happy ones!
  5. Forgot, I also ordered this with the Motta dvd, to feed my growing McRae addiction. . . .
  6. LAL, sorry that happened. I wish I had ten bucks for every time it happened to ME. It's got one very cool cover though! I have been on a sort of Betty Carter binge lately, snapping up some OOP titles from "The Verve Vault." Well, the Ed Motta dvd came back in stock so I ordered that. . .The cds he's put out the last few years are so great I imagine this dvd from 2004 is as well.
  7. Agreed. . . though I'm equally fond of "Big Band Specials"--those are my two favorites.
  8. Oddly enough, I find that the domestic OJC of "Wide Open Spaces" remastered by Kirk Felton sounds BETTER than the K2 remaster that was released in Japan earlier. The remix balance is better, and the tonal sounds are very natural and balanced.
  9. I'm not being driven away until the final part of Mark's plan comes to fruition: the opening of the new jazz board photonissimo.org
  10. I know what you mean! I have all those except the AEC one (not a fan) and you're in for some really good listening. I love that Roulette Betty Carter, it's full of almost three complete albums that are not in print here in the states, and "Out There with Betty Carter" was part of the Impulse "I Can't Help it" two lps on one cd that is now out of print. The Rostaing/Meunier was surprisingly good to me as well!
  11. I didn't quite get all three of those cats when I was first getting into jazz. . . . But over time I've learned to really enjoy the work of all three. Not necessarily ALL the work of ALL three, but a lot of it. It's quite fine if you don't dig them, but I don't think they're at all overrated.
  12. Yes, it's a carefully studied and structured response; not too many, but enough.
  13. I would be very very very very very surprised if you even entertain a second thought after hearing the first few discs. . . .
  14. This IS an excellent album. Recommended!
  15. . . . and the former cds are cheaper than the K2 and SACD hybrids!
  16. Weird, because most of the characters in PKD's work really resonate realistically with me!
  17. Jacques and Paula Morelenbaum (husband and wife) are seasoned Brazilian musical veterans. Among other projects, they spent several years in Tom Jobim's "Banda Nova" and have worked with many other Brazilian artists. Jacques' cello playing is excellent, and he has done wonderful arrangements and orchestrations for many albums and movies. The couple worked in a project with Jobim's son called "Quarteto Jobim" and then connected up with Japanese pianist Ryuichi Sakamoto to record and perform Jobim music, and the two official releases that are available in America, "Casa" (recorded in Jobim's studio in his house!) and "A Day in New York" are beautiful cds. The latter is available from yourmusic.com and I think you'd like it.
  18. Yeah, I know what you mean. I don't have a car though, and I ride the bus, and get about 40 minutes or more a day guaranteed that way. Usuall get another half an hour to an hour a day in as well before work and after work. But I mostly read nonfiction the last decade or so. . . .
  19. Yeah Lem, Brunner, Sturgeon. . . all good 'uns! I prefer novels to short stories myself.
  20. Peter, I don't believe that the cd layer on the Gil Evans hybrid is a K2 remastering, but it is a great sounding new mastering, it's not just the former (mono) cd remastering. Excellent disc!
  21. YES. This and "Three for Shepp" on Impulse.
  22. They just appear to have added Billie Holiday "The Ultimate Collection" . . . two cds and a dvd for the club price of two cds.
  23. Philip K. Dick got me interested in SF back in 1966 and he remains the writer I reread . . . . . Though it's not the science fiction but the human nature insights and philosophical and religious and political insights I read him for. . . . I haven't followed the genre for a long time! Last thing I remember waiting to come out in order to read was the final installment of the Fredrich Pohl "Gateway" series, or maybe the last installment of John Varley's "Gaea" series.
  24. Robert, Thanks for clarifying. It's a great set, it will be in stock for some time, so I feel confident you'll have one sooner or later!
  25. Yes. These earliest sessions are amazing.
