  1. Yes Volume Three, as I noted above. I think there may have been other performances unrecorded, it's just a thought. There is that same arrangement with Monk at the piano from Newport and I only have a short tape of that performance, there could have been more. If anyone could do Monk, I think Duke could, but Duke was more interested in getting his music out there for many reasons. I still would like to have heard more interpretations though. I'm not one of the opinion that very few do Monk right, I feel there have been a number of interesting interpretations of Monk, done "satisfactorily." Waldron. Powell. Harris. Holman. Flanagan. Weston. Many another.
  2. Let's ask Orrin. . . no that won't work. Let's ask Monk. . . no can't do that. I don't know if we'll have a definitive answer! I wouldn't myself be surprised if Monk wouldn't rather have done a different album, especially after the standards album, but I don't know anything definitive; I'd be surprised if anyone here ddid.
  3. And that could be. . . because you don't know much about Macs? Just funnin'. . . . Compaqs are cool, have had one at work, Macs just "suit ME" more.
  4. What I know of is the arrangement for Monk's Dream and an original "Frere Monk" that Strays did (I think it's Strays, maybe Duke) and appears on one of the Private Collection disc on Atlantic/Saja (Volume 3 ) And the Monk's Dream piece performed by the Orchestra behind Monk himself at the keys at Newport (private tape circulating about). I think there may be other examples, but those are the only ones I've ever heard.
  5. I've loved this session for years! It works entirely to me. . . . There was a lot of mutual admiration between Duke and Thelonious over time and it's a combination (Monk at keys and Ellington tunes) I'd like to hear reversed in as much detail (Ellington at keys with Monk tunes) but don't think there's enough material. . . .
  6. There are two Troups, the Distinctive and Sings Johnny Mercer.
  7. Thanks Hans! Yes, I'd noticed the R&B side of the label, just hadn't seen any Bethlehems issued besides the Troup. . . .
  8. I like Latin Shadows in its previous Japanese cd incarnation. Not a soul greeze session but . . . soul greeze on a steady diet can lead to musical health problems. . . .
  9. Anyone know about this series? I have discovered that there are two Bobby Troup Bethlehem lps reissued on a UK label called "Westside Records". . . . They claim access to the original tapes for remastering. I've been looking but am finding little information about this potential series. Anyone know of other titles?
  10. They're neck 'n neck in my player. . .
  11. The Norah Jones calendar?
  12. Doctor has me off the greaze for a few months. . . it's hard!
  13. Oh David, I know, I know and agree with you.
  14. I can only imagine (and it will stay that way). Take care and come back when you can!
  15. I found this story interesting when it was first both introduced as the real thing and then discredited, because I really am very interested in the "history" of James, brother of Jesus, and the first church in Jerusalem, and how it was superceded by Paul and the Gentile church. James was supposedly a very important figure in Jerusalem of his time, and mentioned outside of church mentionings (but everything is suspect). I remember most telling my Catholic-raised wife about the box and James and her retort was "Jesus HAD BROTHERS?"

    Just Wondering

It might be that other guy who simgs with Kenny G, Louis Armstrong.
  17. Ah, I see he was mentioned in the first post!
  18. Has anyone mentioned. . . The triple threat?

    Just Wondering

    Well. . .it's not Kenny G!
  20. Wow, and the one way ticket only may be a selling point, not a detriment!
  21. Allan Reuss. Carmen Mastren. Eddie Lang is only overlooked. . . these days.
  22. I listened to it again recently, which was fun. The cd's going to have about 7 additional tracks on the cd. And will probably have one of those big thick booklets. . . I'm glad to see they're giving her music attention!
  23. Yes, and before this is out in April, Smithsonian/Folkways should have "Mary Lou's Mass" out on cd!
  24. Oh no don't get Pee Deedly (P D) started again! I would trust Cuscuna to pick worthy material, and from the Slack I've heard with T-Bone and with Ella Mae Morse I'd say I'd probably want to hear it.
