  1. Looking forward to the Andrew Hill and Art Pepper sets.
  2. Guess I was snoozing! Good news. . . hope Addey does the remastering.
  3. Information thanks to LAL! April The Complete Clef, Mercury and Verve Studio Recordings of Count Basie and his Orchestra (1952-1957). (8 CDs) #229 - $136 Includes Basie's "New Testament" band that featured Frank Wess, Frank Foster, Benny Powell and Thad Jones with arrangements by Ernie Wilkins and Neal Hefti. Covers the hit albums "April and Paris" and "Count Basie Swings, Joe Williams Sings" as well as the 1956 Metronome All Star album with Ella Fitzgerald.
  4. Well, I AM a Democrat after all, and not one of those "closet Republidems". . . .
  5. Just saw elsewhere (AAJ) that Mosaic has announced an 8 cd Basie set to come out in a few months! GREAT NEWS!

    Dylan SACDs

Just got notification that the cds I bought and my first monthly item shipped!
  7. Preordered the Mary Lou Williams "Mary Lou's Mass" from cduniverse, and added a few Peggy Lee Capitols I have been wanting.
  8. I haven't found a copy I would afford and haven't heard it (as I've had about four versions already) but "Presents" was/is a part of the TOCJ Bethlehem series, and that is likely the best sounding digital version yet. .. . .
  9. "AN IDEA:"--rather a BAD IDEA.
  10. Thanks for reminding me to pull this set out again!
  11. Now that you're old enough to drink and vote, don't overdo either!
  12. Yes Brandon, the Pablo lp. It's quite a nice lp! Listening to it right now. . . could definitely enjoy a sonic upgrade.. . though the lp has really nice piano recording (that resonance that MLW gets out of a piano is well represented) . . . .
  13. Had a spinach and cilantro salad topped with half an avacado, french vinaigrette dressing. :rsmile:
  14. Sometimes I think you're related to my wife! Sounds just like something she would/did say! I always seem to have stacks of empty jewel cases around so in my case she'd have not much trouble. B-)
  15. I have halved my storage needs by using slimiline doubles and maxislim cases whenever possible, not to mention slimline four cd cases when I have no or very little art. . . .
  16. I just listened to this again as I did some chores. . . . My favorite part is the final movement, how it starts off spare and builds up. I like the writing for the strings and the trumpet best on this disc. It's a good recording and deserves to be listened to again. I'll dig it out next weekend if I remember. Now its cousin McFarland with the "By the Time I get to Phoenix" on it. . . that has some really good and really bad stuff on it, almost in equal doese!
  17. Oh yeah, the notes are there. I've just been on a sincere "fuck the notes" lately bit due to corpse-kicking, chest pounding and facts-bitching all over this place. I didn't read the notes, and the music itself really doesn't impart a "message" my way, which McFarland might not have liked to hear!
  18. I'll definitely revisit it soon, I don't plan on leaving it on the shelf for a long time because it's "nice"--I just have so much stuff to listen to that I am unable to really give anything prolonged attention right now, I'm hoping that changes in a few months! I didn't really "get a message" from it but that may come. John, I don't really think it's "stoopid," but there are fun moments, including the guitar stuff.
  19. More Mary Lou! Alright! (this is a good lp). I also like the Manne lp! So at least a couple good ones here. Thanks for posting these!
  20. I bought this recently on DCC cd from a board member. . . . It's "Nice." I'm not sure I am someone who necessarily likes "that sort of thing" but I did enjoy this first few listens. . . or as you accurately state "portions" of this. There ARE some very interesting moments of music and some very intriguing writing. Worth checking out, but not worth losing sleep over if it is NOT a part of your collection!
  21. Marty, I think the gist of the difference is in this portion of the link that Sun posted: The HHB CDR830 BurnIT PLUS enhances the already comprehensive feature set of the HHB CDR830 BurnIT. A Word Clock input enables synchronisation to a host clock during playback, making the unit ideal for applications in which audio remains entirely in the digital domain. The BurnIT PLUS also features balanced XLR analogue I/O and balanced XLR digital I/O – making the recorder ideal for all professional applications. In your case I wouldn't spend the extra two hundred. I didn't, and have no "nonbuyer's remorse."
  22. Marty, a few points: The HHB does NOT automatically revert to analog copying of copies; you can defeat "Serial Copy Management" on this machine. A benefit of this being a professional model. Bill was talking about the Harmon Kardon burner in that sentence and his mention of "second generation" players.
  23. Count Hancockula!
  24. After spending a few disappointing years with a Philips, I bought an HHB Burnit professional machine. It uses plain old PC blanks (as opposed to "audio blanks" though it can use those as well) and it has very nice level and balance controls, faders, etc. It has been a great performer, is solidly built, sounds very nice both the copies it makes and as a player.
  25. Jeff many many happy returns!
