  1. Believe it or not, the first person I have ever seen that pointed out this spelling error online is DEEP (Danny D'Imperio) several years ago.
  2. I think you may be right David, I seem to think of a version with Nance and Baker in the late forties, but I may be mistaking it for something from the fifties. . . It's such a great song, and nice performances of it are out there. . .
  3. Well, they were studio jams that were similar in some ways to the JATP on stage jams. Usually long selections with stars of the Granz stable combined. 1 and 2 were the great alto player jams (Hodges, Parker et al), 3 and 4 had Basie at the keys and players such as DeFranco and Getz and Gray and Smith and Jones, etc. Most of the really good guys that Granz produced had a turn here or there. As a body of work it's quite interesting and impressive. . . some volumes better than others of course, but I've been waiting for a nice package like this for some time!
  4. I've been considering the sale of my copies of the first twenty Dukes on Chronogical Classics as well. Anyone that wants to give me a little personal nudge is welcome to. . .
  5. Looks to me as if there's nothing extra, and they're not LOADED discs (two jams per disc on four discs, on on the last. . . . At least they're at a good price here. . . .
  6. Just posted this information in another thread, but this set deserves one of its own. Due out November 9! Pretty darn good preorder price at cduniverse too! 48.99! Complete Norman Granz Jam Sessions

  8. Yes, it's a very nice cd, that Bush Dance, been enjoying the lp for some time. That is sort of how Griff has been doing stuff the last two and a half decades or more, playing around with the structure and the form and playing his butt off. The man is a world treasure, he's been true to his muse and a solid artist for so long! Long may he reign!
  9. Does look like required reading for you. Hope you're not disappointed.
  10. Very cool, DSD sound on this, nice notes, this is a great set that I will be savoring the rest of this week!
  11. You're welcome. I'm still slowly savoring the Pagel's book, and nearing the end . . . my one caveat and nit to pick about this one is that there isn't much specifically about Thomas in it! But I'm learning some about John and Iraneus that I didn't know as fully before. Interesting read!
  12. I think I have five Neatworks, two Eddie Condons, three Basies. Very nice combination!
  13. There are some interesting sessions and segments here, and a really nice booklet, but if you have to miss one you can miss this one and not feel too badly. . . (my two cents).
  14. I think a safe answer is. . .no more than twenty-seven. . . . Oh, a GROWN man! No more than thirty-seven. . . .
  15. Yes, that Billy Banks/Jack Bland stuff is great!
  16. I don't have or keep precise counts!
  17. I have several hundred Classics.
  18. I have all the volumes in the Collector's Classics series with J. R. T. Davies remastering and treasure them! Red was one of a kind!
  19. Yes, those Gil Evans were nice to have come out, I hadn't gotten one of them befor the CCs arrived. I would love remastered versions of those by Addey or RVG.
  20. I'm deprived! I don't have ANY cartoon dvd box sets! Not surprising. I've never been much into cartoons, even as a lad. Comic books is another story. . . .
  21. Just bought this! Going to give it to my trumpeter friend Dave for doing some housesitting for me. . . I think. . . I may just keep it for myself!
  22. I don't think I ever heard anything besides "These Boots. . . ." Can't say I was ever inspired to! And no, it's not just because of her Dad.
  23. Alberty Ayler, Goin' Home, on Black Lion. Never saw it anywhere else, got it for about ten bucks total on ebay, not bad for a first experience. After that it was probably some NOS vacuum tubes. . . .6922 types from Siemens.
  24. A friend of mine in Ohio used to look for cheap "fender flappers" (cars that had rusted out from the winter salts from the bottom up) with excellent hoods and dashboards. His take was if you look out over the wheel and see the hood all nice and new looking and a nice new looking dashboard. . . it was a nice new looking car!
  25. Come on NEXT WEEK! Or rather NEXT WEEKEND. . . my copy may have arrived by the weekend of Sunday the 10th?
