I like to watch Criminal Intent sometimes. . . it's hilarious. Not intentionally, but I get big chuckles out of the storylines and detectives' antics. The "feel" of these shows is just too melodramatic and unreal for me to take them seriously!

I thought I had mentioned "Directions" in this or the other Organissimo thread, but I did so at AAJ instead. I have the DSD Sony two cd "Directions" and LOVE it. That said, I'm more and more glad I have this set (I was fooling myself into thinking I wasn't going to buy it some time back, yeah right) and am enjoying it more and more. The different segments of "Go Ahead John," and the different takes of "Willie Nelson" (a highlight of "Directions" for me) and "Nem um Talvez/Little Church" (always dug these on Live/Evil and I'm a huge Hermeto fan!) have been spinning a lot, and I'm warming up to a few of the unreleased jam pieces more as well. . . .

That Drevo is a great CD! I've been enjoying it for years as well.

How many forum members to change a light bulb? 1 to change the light bulb. 3 to post that the light bulb has been changed. 14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently. 7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs. 27 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light bulbs. 53 to flame the spell checkers. 6 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb" ... another 6 to condemn those 6 as [Oops!]-retentive. 2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is "lamp". 15 know-it-alls who claim they were in the industry, and that "light bulb" is perfectly correct. 156 to email the participant's ISPs complaining that they are in violation of their "acceptable use policy". 109 to post that this forum is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion to a lightbulb forum. 203 to demand that cross posting to hardware forum, off-topic forum, and lightbulb forum about changing light bulbs be stopped. 111 to defend the posting to this forum saying that we all use light bulbs and therefore the posts are relevant to this forum. 306 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where to buy the best light bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for this technique and what brands are faulty. 27 to post URLs where one can see examples of different light bulbs. 14 to post that the URLs were posted incorrectly and then post the corrected URLs. 27 to post about links they found from the URLs that are relevant to this group which makes light bulbs relevant to this group. 33 to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety including all headers and signatures, and add "Me too". 12 to post to the group that they will no longer post because they cannot handle the light bulb controversy. 19 to quote the "Me too's" to say "Me three". 4 to suggest that posters request the light bulb FAQ. 44 to ask what is a "FAQ"? 4 to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago?" 143 to say "do a search on 'light bulbs' before posting questions about light bulbs". 16 to say, "I sent you a private message about light bulbs". 1 new forum member (or ninja) to respond to the original post 6 months from now and to start it all over again. 'I Waited for You' - Blakey at the Cafe Bohemia
jazzbo replied to A Lark Ascending's topic in Artists
C, those are excellent sessions, and will probably sound very nice; not sure about their legitimate nature. . .they probably are pirated editions really. -
Happy Birthday John Tapscott!

Many many more happy ones John! -
Well, "this one". . . I think that Monk's bands with Frankie Dunlop swung this hard. I do know what you mean about Rouse. I'm pretty sure that other saxophonists could have made the fit. Rollins was an amazing fit for Monk. I really like what Paul Jeffries did in the final Monk band. But Rouse had a lot of time to become that masterful with the music, a lot of time, more time than any other saxophonist. And it shows.

It's going to be great!

Anyone know what may be the next movie based on a Dick work?
-
Aha! Cduniverse lists the tracks on the soundtrack cd: BIG BILL BROONZY!
-
Good question, I didn't catch the credit either, and it was killing!

Well, I believe that the Golden Eight WAS released on Blue Note, and should not be considered a non Blue Note, though it was not a Blue Note production (it was a Gigi Campi production). It was leased, or bought, not sure which. . . bought I think, as it has been reissued by Blue Note Japan. I like it a lot! Clake-Boland Big Band and small group stuff is my meat!
-
That's all nicely said, but I'm not sure that was what it was all about. But no matter. It happened. Thank God. We have this music to enjoy for as long as we want to.
-
I'd beg to differ, strongly. It's style, but it's also something else. It is about people (especially Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown) if you ask me. Odd people. Broken people, perhaps. People though. This one is about. . . revenge. Motivation. Fantastic (in the sense of fantasy as well) drive and strength. And there is great narrative skill in the style. Just the way I see it.

Nope, don't miss my Adam's Apple TOCJ; I think both the JRVG and the RVG sound better.
-
But man. . . there's a part of me that wonders what that would have sounded like ever since I read about it. . . that might be a Beatles album I could really dig~!
-
You know the answer to that one.

Well, I saw this today. . . . It's quite a movie! Not for the faint-hearted in more ways than one. But some exciting filming, some excellent use of music, some very good acting. Over the top, way over the top, as is the whole sort of genre that it is wallowing in. I'm very glad I saw it! I'll definitely see Volume Two.

I like the VeeJay stuff fine, I actually prefer it to the Blue Notes to be honest. I think this stuff is music of high order. . . but I don't "need" it as much at all any more compared to how I used to want to listen to it in the past.
-
I'll admit the ballads have some emotion to them, but overall this is music that does not move my heart these days. I used to be immensely fond of Shorter's work, and I still am fond of it but my listening needs and wants seem to have changed. Just as you are now discovering some of Wayne's and Lee's Blue Note sides, I've known these for years, and they have lost the allure of discovery for me, and other items have that allure to me now! So as you say, different perspectives as well as tastes color our choices.
-
It boils down to personal preferences I guess. I don't feel the "heart" in Shorter's music that I feel in for example Pres' and Birds' and Duke's and Strays' and many another's music, and I begin to need to feel that heartbeat. Shorter's music more and more seems one of the mind to me, and it is great stuff, but it doesn't fulfill some listening needs, and I usually reach for others, and into the Brazilian and blues genres these days for that fulfillment. I'm not knocking his music at all, but it holds less and less interest for me. All that. . .may change!

Amen to that!

The only reason I want to go to NYC again someday (lived there when I was two months to two years old while my dad was at Union Seminary!) is to see Satch's house. A friend and I have a desire to go together like a pilgrimage. . . but we have to find a way to afford it and to afford the trip with womenfolk who won't want to spend more than ten minutes there, and we'll want to spend a few whole days. . . . No easy answer!
-
I'm all for a new release of live material only released in bits before. The Mysterioso release could be quite superflous if the component recordings are extant and released in entirety! I can never never never have enough Monk!

I guess I'd have to say that many of the Freddie Hubbard's have been disappointing to me. I'm just not a fan of his style, his soloing seems full of sound and fury signifying nothing to me. I always enjoy the lineups and wish another trumpeter were there instead. Perhaps this is blasphemy, but that's just how it is for me; his work doesn't really grab me. Gotta also say the BabyFace Willettes don't disappoint me, but I never had high expectations for them and I don't reach for them much.
