  1. It's very easy. I just move my lips.
  2. I'd want Helen Merrill to be my producer, and we'd sit down and work out the musicians together. I'd lobby strongly for Jim Sangry and Andrew Griffith and Shawn Dudley.
  3. Sure, I'm the one that has to come to reality, while you have all your multiple personalities popping up all over the place TRYING LIKE HELL to be funny. Keep trying! Come on Weiz, who ARE you fooling?
  4. I don't think it's an insane thing to think at all Weizy, I mean Freudie baby, I mean Reddy Freudie, I mean . . . .
  5. I've grown to really love her. I sure do "remember" her! Wouldn't you have liked to have spent a few nights out on the town with Lee and Bunny Berigan?
  6. I think he's the Red Menace. Ban 'em all!

    Why I hate Miles

I love Miles. The reasons others don't like him may be the fuel for my ardor. That's cool. I'll be listening to Miles for the next few decades, I hope, and I hope I keep, as I did this week, discovering new Miles recordings to listen to. It bothers me not that others may not like him. They don't have to defend themselves. But even if (and it's so much deeper than that) it were only because Miles was one of the pathfinders led me to the whole world of jazz, Miles will always be a part of my musical world.
  8. I had one, sold it. This was also being given away by Columbia to the first 300 people or so who responded with a postcard included in the Davis/Evans seet, you could chose a lithograph of the cover image or a copy of this cd. I went with the lithograph. Probably should have gotten the cd: the lithograph ended up costing me 250 dollars because my wife had it framed to that tune!
  9. I'd love to hear that concert that had Shepp, Ayler and Trane. Among other things. . . . Like a lot more of Billie with Basie. . . .
  10. You'll regard it as the classic it really is before too long!
  11. And I'm a big fan of your diplomatic demeanor and your admiration for Michael Cuscuna.
  12. I'm listening to Festival Session right now and you'll enjoy this one, no doubt!
  13. Uh oh. . . now you're in for it. . . Ellington Jones really hurt bad and you'll do ANYTHING for a fix!
  14. I know that Ghost of Miles received a wrong cd and mailed it back. . . hopefully he'll chime in on how the experience was/is coming along. This is a great great cd!
  15. What's so odd about the disc "labels"--Columbias been doing this for years. . . .
  16. Sort of like Jazz Party, yeah, in a way, without Guest Stars. . . . It's a rocking date in killer sound! Jimmy Johnson and Sam Woodyard tears up some drums too.
  17. I'm intersted in hearing it too. It might be good. Who knows. In my opinion he's made good ones before. I wish it WEREN'T a quartet though; I'd like to hear more horns.
  18. Hell, he's just waiting for another tumbleweed to come along his line of sight! It's worse than a Hollywood set of a ghost town over yonder!
  19. Yeah, I'm learning to face the bitter truth.
  20. No offense taken. Both of my younger brothers are lawyers, my father is a retired minister and a historian/biographer. About ten years ago my wife was pushing me to make more money and I took a battery of vocational tests to hopefully find a clue, something that the test would show that I would excel at, that would stand out from other occupations. I took the tests and the analyzer/counselor told me "Great news! You've scored highly on almost all factors, from manual dexterity to language skills, with manual dexterity and language skills being the two highest, which is unusual--you could do almost ANYTHING!" I was visibly disappointed and she was puzzled. I have a ton of interests and always knew that I am reasonably equipped with skills to pursue them, and was looking for that ONE, you know, that BEACON that would say "YOU SHOULD DO THIS!" so I asked her: what one or two things do you think I would really be good at. She looked up from the results and said "With your language skills you should consider becoming either a lawyer, or a minister." I was again visibly disappointed, and dropped the whole getting a new career thing altogether, and instead knuckled under at work trying to get a coworker who was tormenting me to stop, and instead got a transfer to Human Resources where my wages increased over a few years by about 40% . . . . So yeah, I probably would make a good politician. BUT so far I've resisted the urge!
  21. Yes, poor quality indeed! No I don't believe that Hat and Beard ever did record together. . . .
  22. Here's how I would paraphrase it, and a statement I could stand behind: "Even if Wynton is not the best, you can still find the beauty in his music, and maybe then you will be able to find the beauty in the music of other jazz artists"
  23. Many more happy ones!
  24. Now that is a pleasant urban view indeed! Best of luck in your relocation and beyond!
