I have those. I'm also fond of his Blanton/Webster and Porgy and Bess cds. And "Blue Skylight," his Mingus and Mulligan one, is excellent.

Woody Herman with Erroll Garner, “Music for Tired Lovers” Columbia/Document cd I know many don’t, but I really like Woody Herman vocals, and Erroll accompanies him very well here (with hardly present bass and drums). [IMG]600×596 119 KB

I spent some time over this weekend to reconfigure my LP playback. Rather than sending the output from my phono preamp in DSD format to my DAC, I am using the balanced analog output of the phono preamp into a ZBIT and from there single-eneded out to the second input of the SEWE300B. This means I no longer have remote volume or balance control, nor does the path go through a ZROCK2 into the SEWE300B. Overall really good sound–just lacking a little bit of “oomph” to lower midrange and bass that a ZROCK2 would provide. (I have a ZROCK3 on order to remedy this situation). Listened to one of my favorite LPs bought in the mid-seventies, Flora Purim “500 Miles High–Live at the Montreux Jazz Festival.” Wow. I love this music, this recording, and the history I have with it. Now listening to Bob Dylan Bootleg Series Vol. 10, “Another Self Portrait” LP 1. Sounds quite good. . . just wish it has a bit more bass. 700×707 142 KB

MIles Davis “Someday My Prince will Come” Sony Blu-Spec CD2, stereo version 1000×1000 164 KB I have a handful of versions of this great album, and they all sound great. This Blu-Spec CD2 from last year is sounding great this morning.

Yes, from the US tour. Right now Charles Mingus “Incarnations” Candid cd This was released at first as an RSD LP and then last week luckily it was released as a great sounding cd. Features one previously unreleased track from a 1960 session.

Betty Carter with Geri Allen “Love Notes” Jazz Door cd An unofficial cd that I had not known of til last week. New to me Betty Carter. . . a great thing. Bass – Dave Holland Drums – Jack DeJohnette Piano – Geri Allen Vocals – Betty Carter Recorded live in the U.S.A. during the world tour 1993

John Coltrane “Crescent” Impulse! – IMP-200 1997 limited edition reissue Been futzing with my Vinyl and moved it from running into the DSD DAC via HDMI to balanced analog out from the phono preamp into the ZBIT and into the SEWE300B (all Decware components except the PS Audio NuWave Phono Converter). Sounds very similar actually, but this removdes the ZROCK2 from the chain and it could use a bit of its help, or more than a bit. I have a ZROCK3 on order that will give me an extra ZROCK. . . I’m about #58 on the “accelerated list.” 599×592 133 KB

Another Mark Masters Ensemble disc that I pulled from the shelves, “Blue Skylight” which interprets the work of both Charles Mingus and Gerry Mulligan, alternating a composition by each on the disc. A great listen! Gary Foster: alto saxophone; Jerry Pinter: tenor and soprano saxophones; Gene Cipriano: tenor saxophone (2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 11); Adam Schroeder: baritone saxophone (2; 4; 6; 8; 10, 11); Ron Stout: trumpet (1, 3, 5, 7, 9); Les Benedict: trombone (1,3,5,7,9); Ed Czach: piano; Putter Smith: bass; Kendall Kay: drums.
