  1. Fourth day with in-laws from Austin yesterday, a lot of fun with the two youngsters. Glad to be sitting in front of the stereo! A very pretty album for a rainy cold winter morning. Harry Allen “Something about Jobim” Stunt cd Authentic Brazilian vibe with Helio Alves, Joyce and her husband Tutty Moreno on board.
  2. Eliane Elias “Fantasia” Blue Note cd This is a beautiful trio album interpreting Brazilian compositions in a fresh manner. Perfect for this misty morning.
  3. “Albare Plays Jobim–A Tribute to Antonio Carlos Jobim”
  4. 599×600 101 KB Carmen McRae and Dave Brubeck (Trio) “Take Five (Recorded Live At Basin Street East)” Sony Japan Blu-Spec CD What an artist Carmen was! A storyteller and approached some singing as if she were an instrumentalist. I always get a smile listening to her.
  5. Miles Davis “In Person Friday and Saturday Nights at the Blackhawk” Sony Blu-Spec CD2, 2023, 2 cd set, disc 2 Followed by Miles Davis, “Bitches Brew” Sony Blu-Spec CD2, 2023, disc 2 Followed by Duke Pearson, “The Right Touch” Blue Note Japan 2015 cd Followed by Santana “Abraxas” Mobile Fidelity Labs SACD [IMG]679×679 175 KB
  6. Helen Merrill “The Nearness of You” from The Complete Helen Merrill on Mercury box set Some great playing here accompanying her unique voice and phrasing.
  7. Keith Jarrett/Gary Peacock/Jack DeJohnette "Standards Live" ECM cd Cover drawing by Franz Kafka. Stylistically I would have guessed. . . Miles Davis.
  8. SFJazz Collective “Original Compositions and Works by Herbie Hancock” disc 2
  9. Similar presentation in the Illinois Jacquet box if I am not mistaken. It has never really been off-putting for me.
  10. On another board there was discussion of jazz vocalist favorites, and I was going to play a Helen Merrill disc next, but couldn’t find it easily, so opted for this because I wanted to hear some Joel Ross, and there’s some of his vibes here. Greg Spero (piano) Makaya McCraven (drums) Marquis Hill (trumpet) Joel Ross (vibraphone) Jeff Parker (guitar) Darryl Jones (bass) Irvin Pierce (tenor sax)
  11. Art Pepper “Unreleased Art Pepper Vol. 10: Toronto” 3 cd set, disc 2
  12. One of my favorite albums of this decade. Immanuel Wilkins “Omega” Blue Note cd
  13. Miles Davis “Sorcerer” Sony Blu-Spec CD2 2023 Wow. This is the Wilder remix and it never sounded better.
  14. My wife’s niece and her husband and her darling boy and girl are in town for a week plus from Austin and we spent the day with them. . . we may spend almost every day with them as the kids love my wife so and they are real corkers. But this morning is colder and raining and Brazilian music seemed a good start to the day–and joea Bosca’s happy and warm music seemed just the right fit.
  15. I agree. My system is geared more for cd and SACD and the price for these is better.
  16. I'm predominantly a cd person. . . I do listen to LPs but don't buy many new at all, mostly used and really cheap. . . and about 1 percent of my collection and purchases.
  17. Cool. New reissue LPs are too expensive for me.
  18. Jackie McLean “Demon’s Dance” Blue Note RVG Edition Japan Woody Shaw! And LaMonte Johnson channeling McCoy Tyner.
  19. Starting off the day with Pops. His positive vibe is always welcome. You Know Who's vocals are so well-recorded here. . . and everyone is dishing it out. “Louis Armstrong & His All Stars En Concert Olympia 24 April 1962” Europe 1 cd
  20. I think the Byrd live performance is more than a little bit better but the original LP doesn't do a whole lot for me, though perhaps my youngest brother playing it over and over and over is a big factor. (My next youngest brother playing Jackson Browne over and over and over is a reason I don't own any of his work as well).
  21. Moacir Santos “Maestro” Blule Note TOCJ Japan cd 600×537 98.3 KB The Maestro’s first album outside Brazil and it’s a powerful premier
  22. Duke Pearson “Merry Ole Soul” Blue Note reissue LP 600×600 196 KB Probably my least favorite Duke Pearson LP but if there’s a day to play today is that day. Followed by Miki Yamanaka “Stairway to the Stars” cd with Mark Turner and Orlando Le Fleming
  23. Horace Tapscott “The Dark Tree 1 & 2” Disc the first. It’s been a long time since I have heard this. The system sounds so much better now, I’m enjoying the listen a bit more.

    For me, this one:
  25. Miles Davis “Pangaea” Sony Blu-Spec CD2, 2023 This, like the Blu-Spec CD and the previous Blu-Spec CD2, is the release without the extra minutes of noise at the end, and a DSD transfer. Sounds awesome!
