I personally think you make too much of Fort Worth and Free Jazz. And by that time there was a big difference in America--radio and TV and other factors (WW2, et al) have created a jazz scene and an American cultural scene that made melting pot even more fondu than ever before. I'll bow out of this discussion as it seems much ado about nothing to me. We won't know if jazz developed around New Orleans or drifted there from elsewhere. What drove me away from college and certain studies is just this sort of discussion which . . . I'm sorry it does little for me.

Most of those non-New Orleans jazz musicians in the earliest years were inspired, referencing, copying or collaborating with New Orleans musicians. Even in Europe, a musician such as Bechet very early on was a force for jazz on that continent. If we are talking the earliest of jazz recordings and references, New Orleans seems to dominate. I'm not making any big claims for New Orleans itself, but I do believe this is a big reason why that city is cited as the genesis of the genre.

I think part of the reason that we associate this new innovation in music with New Orleans is because the Original Dixieland Jazz Band was very popular and viewed as a creative force in popularizing the forms, and also that even in Chicago and San Francisco and NYC where early recordings appear New Orleans musicians are deeply involved in the recordings and the rave appearances (Original New Orleans Jazz Band with Durante, New Orleans Rhythm Kings, King Oliver, many more).

Orrin Evans “Liberation Blues” Smoke Sessions cd This is my first Orrin Evans cd. Won’t be my last.

Not how I feel about it. Very little dross if at all.

I think it would be better to spend 100 dollars getting the Charles Mingus Complete Debut Recordings box that has this material and so much more interesting music.

I have the Debut box double versions as well as an SACD. I'm good too. Trying not to be cranky, that's not a plus.

These seem geared to new jazz explorers who have experienced growing interest in jazz through audiophile VINYL releases. There seemed to be more than enough of them for these releases to be thought up and brought out. And for those newly exploring jazz these are beneficial. For cranky old jazzers squeezing dimes together for obscure titles, not so much.

Jure Pukl “Broken Circles” Whirlwind cd I bought this originally because Joel Ross is on board. Glad I did.

That said I do want to note my experience that improving my system does improve the playback of early cds.

Yes, I'd welcome another. Though she's very close to my age and I understand not working an ass off at this point of life. Just want to suggest the Winter & Winter version of this album as it has always sounded good, it's better than the earlier release.

Duke Ellington “The Great Paris Concert” Atlantic 2 cd set A great Ellington concert . . . sound is very good. If I had a time machine this would be a good destination for an evening out.

Cassandra Wilson “Live” Winter & Winter cd Long time no play–system has improved since then. A great listen.

About 10 days I'd say. For some items they have an American warehouse.

Cheaper to order from the label.

Can't drink what isn't there to purchase.

Both are great concerts. I think the sound is a little better here, though I haven't made a direct comparison this week. There are only a week apart between them. . . very similar performances but as you know there are significant differences between Miles concerts in any year.

This is a great release. Sound almost as good as the Dragon/Bootleg series releases of 1960 tour material. Great performances.
