Yes, the mastering on the UHQCD (likely the same except for the UHQCD aspect) is phenomenal imo. I opted for this way as I do collect the Japanese versions, and the book I probably would look at twice. The pricing worked out about the same either way.
Now playing
Joel Ross “Who Are You?” Blue Note cd
Mr. Ross impresses me with his writing and playing more and more and having Immanuel Wilkins on board is an added big plus.
Cool. I bought all the music on UHQCD from Japan. Don't have the book.
Right now
John Pizzzarelli "Sinatra & Jobim @ 50–featuring Daniel Jobim
An awesome recording of spirited performances.

Talk of the upcoming SACD set from Tower Records Japan has me spinning this.
Miles Davis “Live at the Plugged Nickel Chicago, Vol. 2” cd (sort of) from the Miles Davis Complete Columbia Albums box set.
Picked this from the shelf and realized I probably have never listened to the second disc before. . . .

Louis Hayes “Serenade for Horace” Blue Note cd
A relatively mellow sounding disc full of Horace Silver compositions. Nice band.

Tenor Saxophone – Abraham Burton

Vibraphone – Steve Nelson
Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers “Gypsy Folk Tales” Roulette Japan SHM-CD
Has that 'seventies jazz recording sound, but it’s definitely a Jazz Messengers album! Sound is much clearer here than on a previous European 2 cd set I had of the Roulette material.
Alto Saxophone – Bobby Watson
Bass – Dennis Irwin
Drums – Art Blakey
Tenor Saxophone – David Schnitter
Trumpet – Valery Ponomarev
Walter Davis, Jr. - piano
Wes Montgomery “In Paris – The Definitive oRTF Recording” Resonance Records 2 cd set, disc 1
Exciting material. Johnny Griffin featured on several numbers.
Stanley Turrentine and the Three Sounds “The Blue Hour, Volume 2” TOCJ Japan cd
I see many who think this second volume (a “Lost Session”) is inferior to the released “Blue Hour” . . . but I like it nearly as much.
It may seem odd. . . but the fact that Kenton's was one of the most successful (and there were not large numbers) of West Coast big bands meant that his band was a target for up and coming and wannabe West Coast jazz artists to join.
Duke Ellington Orchestra “LIEDERHALLE STUTTGART 1967” Jazz Art House cd
From the Count to the Duke. This is a very interesting concert in surprisingly good sound.
“The Pablo All Star Jam” Pablo/OJC cd
This is a really solid jam session with great players listening to each other.
Clark Terry, Ronnie Scott, Milt Jackson, Jim Hall, Oscar Peterson, NHOP, Bobby Durham
Kudos to the recording engineers.
I’m listening to this one again after a spell. I always want this one to be DIFFERENT than it is. I have been learning to accept it for what it IS and am winning over the years.
“The Gil Evans Orchestra Plays the Music of Jimi Hendrix” Japan cd
One of my very favorite Jobim discs, songs culled from the “Songbook” series from Brazil, featuring Tom singing songs by other composers with his great late career musical companions, in excellent sound.
Antonio Carlos Jobim “Minha Alma Canta”
Cool. I have unconventional speakers as well, with an upward firing omni-directional driver, a forward firing midrange, a ribbon tweeter and a passive radiator at the bottom.
