  1. Had to turn this up a bit louder than usual, a hard rain is a-fallin’. . . . Planet D Nonet “Blues to be There–A Salute to Duke Ellington” This is a good one!
  2. Hill and Ross are great players and I bet that was a great show. I really like the 2 cd set that Ross and Jason Palmer did together with Mark Turner on board as well. . . a great release.
  3. Marquis Hill “New Gospel Revisited” I like this one the more I spin it.
  4. “The Complete Bach Cello Suites” Zuill Bailey, Octave Records SACD, disc 2 Nice interpretations, very realistic sounding cello playback.
  5. I enjoyed The Shield, it was nowhere near The Wire or other top-notch shows, and its production values weren't awe-inspiring, but it was entertaining. I never felt the need to watch any of The Commish.
  6. I myself think neither the two basses nor the electric piano sound terrible or detract from the whole.
  7. They are not going to repress boxes that they sold out of long ago, in large part because of licensing limitations, and in part because they said they never would and they are persons of their word.
  8. Sahib Shihab “Jazz Party” Debut/Muzak Japan lp facsimile cd Bass – Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen Drums – Alex Riel Flugelhorn – Allan Botschinsky Guitar – Ole Molin Snare [Snare Drums] – Bjarne Rostvold Soprano Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone, Flute – Sahib Shihab The source recording here is a well-recorded live appearance, and the mastering is excellent on this edition.
  9. Eliane Elias, Bob Brookmeyer, Danish Radio Jazz Orchestra “Impulsive–Play the Music of Eliane Elias”

From wikipedia: Semi-retirement In 2019, lang said in an interview that she considers herself semi-retired and may not be writing and recording new songs in the future. "I'm not feeling any particular urge to make music right now. The muse is eluding me. I am completely at peace with the fact that I may be done."
  11. Keith Jarrett/Gary Peacock/Jack DeJohnette “Still Live” ECM Japan 2 cd set, disc 2 Beautiful music. Always makes me feel nostalgic. I played this a lot, practiced to this a lot, in an important period in my life, a time when things started falling into place
  12. George Benson/McDuff, OJC cd 600×600 115 KB 2 LPs reissued on this cd: “The New Boss Guitar of George Benson” and “Hot Barbeque” Interesting that long-time Sun Ra bassist extraordinaire Ronnie Boykins is on the first album. Red Holloway is on tenor on both albums.
  13. George Benson “In Concert–Carnegie Hall–Guest Hubert Laws” CTI RVG UHQCD Japan I had forgotten that Ronnie Foster was on keys here. Nice little spice added there. The spice must flow! Recorded at Carnegie Hall, January 11, 1975
  14. Pan Afrikan People's Arkestra "Live At IUCC 6/24/79 – Church Recordings Vol 6" (2CD set) disc 1 I'm awake now.
  15. Shelly Manne & His Men “Yesterdays” Pablo cd

Her music doesn't really do much for me no matter what it may be classified as. But she is a lovely woman.
  17. Unless there is some revelation of profundities I have completely missed, I too will pass on the next installment of the bootleg series. Actually it's not the next installment of the Bootleg Series, but a Japanese brewed independent release adopted by Columbia/Sony for international release.
  18. Jackie Paris “Nobody Else But Me” Audiophile Records cd Bass – Mike Richmond Drums – Keith Copeland Piano – Jim McNeely Vocals – Jackie Paris Recorded July 11 + 12, 1988 in New York City. This is one of my favorite Jackie Paris albums
  19. Art Farmer Quartet (with Jim Hall) “From Sweden with Love–Live!” cd Sound is pretty darned good. I’ve always loved the music from this Quartet.
  20. Theo Hill “Reality Check” cd I bought this because Joel Ross was here on vibes. Nice quartet session.
  21. Another release from 1978. . . quite different. Charles Mingus “Something Like a Bird” Atlantic cd from the “Changes” box set.
  22. Bob Dylan "LIve at Budokan" Sony Blu-Spec CD2, disc 1 Thie Budokan concerts expanded is the next deluxe Dylan set to come in October so I wanted to revisit this release which is certainly far from my favorite Dylan to see if I am interested in this expensive upcoming set. Not really. I admit I like listening to this more than I have in the past because my system sounds os much better. . .but. . .what I have is enough.
  23. Ahmad Jamal “The Complete Ahmad Jamal Trio Argo Sessions 1956-1962” discs V and V! The mastering on this set excels that of any LP or cd of this material I have had before. The dynamics that Jamal plays with so skillfully are presented as accurately as the dynamics on almost any other recordings I have. Lovely sound that breathes and swings.
  24. I was going to recommend the Vegh Quartet work. I have a pretty limited experience along these lines, but those always impressed me.
