  1. I’m sneaking this one in while Lucy and Fiona sleep, on my best headphone system. Wow. Just amazing in all possible ways. My favorite digital version. Sony SRCS 9703 cd, lp facsimile
  2. Keith Jarrett “Rio” ECM 2 cd, disc 1 Solo Keith. I haven’t played this one enough. 600×531 105 KB
  3. Jimmy Rowles/Red Mitchell/Donald Bailey “Trio” Capri Records cd Three masters. Jimmy Rowles always draws me in with his piano playing.
  4. RIP Peter. Never got into his music but realize his importance.
  5. Bengt Hallberg with Lars Gullin “All Star Sessions 1953/1954 – Featuring Lars Gullin” Dragon Records cd Great morning listening. The Dusty Groove description: Great recordings from Swedish pianist Bengt Hallberg – recorded at a key point in the 50s when he was really building a reputation in the overseas market! The sides here were recorded for Metronome and Pacific Jazz – and feature Hallberg’s sharp-edged piano working with a great range of Swedish reedmen – not just baritonist Lars Gulling, as mentioned in the title – but also Arne Domnerus on alto and clarinet, Carl-Henrik Norin on tenor, and Putte Wickman on clarinet – plus added brass from the trumpet of Ernie Englund and trombone of Ake Persson. Moods are modern throughout – and kind of a blend of Swedish postwar with west coast cool – an aspect that made Hallberg ripe for exposure to the US market at the time. Titles include “Pink Lady”, “Side Car”, “Whiskey Sour”, “Red Wails In The Sunset”, “Blues In Fourths”, and “Meatballs” – and some tracks are presented in multiple takes!
  6. I never mention guns. Loathesome things.
  7. And when you have TWO people with personality disorders interacting . . . .
  8. It's a shame that Buddy and Mel became so hostile if true as they were friends since WW2.
  9. “The Complete Ahmad Jamal Trio Argo Sessions 1956-1962” Mosaic Records disc III This nicely remastered set is a great thing to have as all the Jamal Trio albums I’ve bought are noisy enough to be very distracting with this subtle music with quite moments.
  10. Ed Motta “Piquenique” cd. I haven’t played this one for a while. Like it more and more each time it spins.
  11. Alex Blake! Randy Weston “Khepera” Verve cd
  12. Eddie Condon Town Hall, Vol. 1, LP 1, Jazzology Records. Not the best sound–I think the cd edition sounds better–but a great concert with killer players!
  13. Kenny Burrell with Coleman Hawkins “Bluesy Burrell” Moodsville/OJC/RVG Edition cd Wonderful with the cool morning we’re having. Fiona the dachshund is enjoying it I think
  14. There's a real artistry to what Mel could do. I don't know how often he reached deep into that well. I like his Bethlehem material, and the early Verve material. . . and here and there little bits beyond.
  15. Abbey Lincoln (featuring Stan Getz) “You Gotta Pay the Band” Gitanes Jazz cd Such elegance. Thanks to Hank Jones I think.
  16. Betty Carter “It’s Not about the Melody” Verve cd The ever amazing Ms Carter.
  17. “The Imaginative Johnny Windhurst” Jazzology LP
  18. Duke Ellington “Complete 1947-1952” CBS France 6 LP box set I noticed Dusty Groove had this French box set for 27 dollars and even though I have had this box set about seven years on LP and over 20 years on cd, I just had to order it. Turns out it is completely brand new, unplayed. Which is much better condition than the LP set I’ve enjoyed for so long. So I can certainly keep this one! Listening to LP 3 right now. GREAT music in this set.
  19. 1m 800×800 241 KB Marcos Valle “Nova Bossa Nova”

  23. Dexter Gordon “The Montmartre Collection” Black Lion/Muzak Records Japan cd 2 The Black Lion recordings never have sounded better to me than on these Japanese releases from several years ago. Dexter Gordon with Kenny Drew, NHOP and Albert Heath.
