  1. Duke Ellington “Jazz Party in Stereo” Columbia stereo LP Timeless beauty in these grooves.
  2. Waiting for the storm to come. . . we haven’t had much at all so far. Hope we don’t lose power! That’s my biggest fear. I’m stocked up and will deal with the shoveling in shifts. . . just hope to keep the household calm. Starting off with a nice Eliane Elias cd, “Everything I Love” on Blue Note. 300×296 8.84 KB
  3. Graham Collier “New Conditions” Disconforme cd

  5. To my way of thinking you are entitled to do with these what your will and conscience allows. I like their releases--the sound quality is really really good and the music is great.
  6. Now on to this great UHQCD from 2019 Wynton Kelly “Piano Interpretations By Wynton Kelly” Blue Note Japan
  7. -5 degrees out. . . Snow expected tomorrow, but none today, though some wouldn’t surprise me the way weather forecasting has fallen a bit short lately! I decided to start the day off with Grant Green “Idle Moments,” the Blue Note 85th Anniversary UHQCD from Japan. Sure sounds nice!
  8. Wanted to hear some Joel Ross. So “The Parable of the Poet” Blue Note cd A new Joel Ross release is due next Friday. 1000×1000 398 KB
  9. “We Dig Dixieland Jazz” Savoy/Denon cd, re-issuing an lp compiling an Eddie Condon session and a Sidney Bechet session.
  10. “Don Goldie’s Jazz Express” Jazzology LP Hard not to feel uplifted when Don is playing and singing that good ole style!
  11. No snow overnight! But it got cold. . . down to 15 degrees now, and that’s the HIGH, with it lowering to 0 degrees by 8:00 p.m. Sigh. Cheering myself up with Barney Wilen, “French Ballads,” the excellent expanded cd reissue from a handful of years ago. Such killer music. 500×500 80 KB The original cover:
  12. Listening to this one again before I re-file it in the shelves. “O’Loons Rathskeller Presents Jack Teagarden Featured With The Walloon Young Pecan Pickers And Bugs Resrom’s Richmond Ramblers” Warcloud Records LP A Boris Rose thing. . . some of this is true stereo. 300×300 9.07 KB

  15. Thanks for that "preview." I'm looking forward to mine arriving, probably next week (I have a tracking number but no indication yet that my set has shipped).
  16. A great trio backing Joe on this one. Joe Henderson “mirrormirror” Verve cd Original MPS cover:
  17. 32 degrees and a little bit of snow overnight, but none expected today. A bit of a blessing. Lucinda and I plan a nice walk today. First day this week “something” wasn’t scheduled that takes up chunks of our time. Staring off the day with this excellent disc of “warm weather music” --Paula Morelenbaum “Bossarenova” with the SWR Big Band and Ralf Scmid. Paula’s lovely voice is a nice way to ease into the day, and these arrangements are fun to listen to.
  18. Pee Wee Russell “Portrait of Pee Wee” Counterpoint/DCC cd. Steve Hoffman and. DCC did a good job with this, and they chose perhaps the best sounding Pee Wee recording to work with so that helped. What a band! I’m a huge Pee Wee Russell fan. 297×300 6.8 KB Bass – Charlie Potter Clarinet – Pee Wee Russell Drums – Karl Kiffe Piano, Arranged By – Nat Pierce Tenor Saxophone – Bud Freeman Trombone – Vic Dickenson Trumpet – Ruby Braff
  19. Miles Davis and the Modern Jazz Giants” Prestige Japan lp facsimile cd The title is not an exaggeration!
  20. Now I was thinking of another cup of coffee, so I put on Bob Dylan’s “Desire” Mobile Fidelity Lab SACD.
  21. 16 degrees this morning. That’s a better start than yesterday. Still cold–was out re-arranging cars so that the water softener tech can fit his truck in the driveway, he’s due soon. Starting the day off with Miles Davis “Blue Haze” Prestige Japan lp facsimile cd. This is a compilation of material from three different sessions in '53 and '54. 286×300 7.21 KB
  22. I have over 100.
  23. I (too?) got a "shipping notice" (doesn't mean it has shipped).
  24. 500×446 28.7 KB Duke Ellington and his Orchestra “Ellington Indigos” Columbia/Impex Records gold cd. This is music I would take to any island I was stranded on, and man does this reissue sound great–also it’s expanded to include alternates in mono.
  25. I haven’t listened to Coleman Hawkins in a while. I pulled this excellent 4 cd set from the shelves where it has resided unplucked for too long. The Keynote label was a wonderful one, nearly ever side recorded is of high quality and featured many musicians who deserved more exposure than they had had. Owner Harry Lim recorded the two “kings” of the tenor, Lester Young and Coleman Hawkins. Sound on this Hawkins set is excellent. This final disc includes Hawkins with Charlie Shavers and a George Whettling group. “The Complete Coleman Hawkins” Keynote/Mercury 4 cd set, disc 4
