  1. Bouncing in my head while I was tinkering with the cars outside was a tune from “The Spirit of Condon” – Louis Armstrong’s “Someday You’ll be Sorry.” I’ve learned the wisdom in that song a few times. Need something to push that tune out so. . . . “Count Basie & Friends–100th Birthday Bash” Roulette 2 cd set, disc 1 Pulled this from the shelves, a great collection of great Basie in that Roulette sound. 300×300 10.8 KB
  2. Some late Chicago Style. . . . “The Spirit of Condon” Jazzology cd Eddie Condon on board, with Wild Bill Davison and Art Hodes as well. Recorded in Manassas, VA 1971 and 1973
  3. Have a little time with the system again and this one caught my eye and called to me. I really like the first of the two “shows” released here. The sound quality is excellent, and “Round Midnight” is really interesting to hear. Bill Evans “Portraits at the Penthouse: Live in Seattle” Resonance Records cd IMG360×360 26.4 KB
  4. And now for something completely different, and sounding really great on the system today. Stan Kenton “New Conceptions of Artistry in Rhythm” Capitol cd
  5. Me too, very grateful.
  6. No frozen pipes! No frozen people! I’m listening a bit before going out to shovel 5 or 6 inches of snow. . . . IMG500×437 36.8 KB Joshua Reman Elastic Band “Momentum” Nonesuch cd
  7. Continuing my revisit of Yes material with “Open Your Eyes.”

  10. I have and enjoy all nine volumes in this series: https://www.discogs.com/label/441012-Svensk-Jazzhistoria
  11. Sorry . . . having no heat and having to shell out 8500 for a new furnace has my brain a little fuzzy as a defense against reallity. Right now Bob Wilbur and the Tuxedo Big Band of Toulouse, France "Unrecorded Fletcher Henderson Arrangements for Benny Goodman" Arbor Jazz cd Fun, swinging stuff.
  12. Now, “The Inimitable Teddy Wilson” Xanadu cd Teddy with Duke Jordan, Larry Ridley and Freddie Waits. Really hitting the spot right now.
  13. Thelonious Monk “Bremen 1965” Sunnyside 2 cd set, disc 1 It’s cold. Going to be cold til late Monday when our new furnace should be installed. And lots of snow too. Oh joy. Sneaking in a little music before I have to deal with my wife’s increasing anxiety again. Got this new release in yesterday and it is in EXCELLENT (mono) sound. Thelonious Monk “Bremen 1965” Sunnyside 2 cd set, disc 1 Good performances too. .
  14. Nah. The label just doesn't think this stuff will sell. That's the bottom line.
  15. Playing this one again. It’s so soothing and softly swinging. I like the musical mind of Dick Cary, a lot. “Dick Cary & his Tuesday Night Friends playing Dick Cary Originals” Arbor Jazz cd
  16. Revisiting Out Of/Into “Motion II” Blue Note cd So glad this new “supergroup” have released a second. And it’s very good! Pianist Gerald Clayton, alto saxophonist Immanuel Wilkins, vibraphonist Joel Ross, drummer Kendrick Scott, and bassist Matt Brewer
  17. More snow, and our furnace is acting funky; beyond my ability to solve though I’ve kept it going with frequent visits to the root cellar. Waiting on a service call back. Continuing on with my Yes re-visit with “Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe”
  18. I would think a Christmas delivery unlikely.
  19. I never paid attention to what people might think about this or other albums by Yes. I liked that Yes morphed but retained a certain identity that had an appeal to me. The only exception are the albums without Jon Anderson. Anderson is an essential ingredient for Yes.
  20. Chet Baker “I Remember You” 300×300 4.93 KB A very mellow Chet performance with the added draw of Sal Nistico on tenor. Some great guitar from Lorne Lofsky as well. Bass – Chris Connors Drums – Art Frank Guitar – Lorne Lofsky Producer – Phil Markowitz Tenor Saxophone – Sal Nistico Trumpet, Vocals – Chet Baker Live recording, Buffalo, New York, November 11, 1984
  21. Re-visiting another Yes album I don’t think I have listened to since I moved from Austin a dozen years ago. An unusual one that showcases two different editions of Yes. Sure sounds great on my present system, so different than I remember it sounding when I had the Torii Mk III in the system.
  22. Starting off a snowy morning with a cd that I used to play to death but have neglected for a few years. It’s the amazing 1960 band of Charles Mingus with Bud Powell sitting in for one piece. Hard to top the ensemble and the compositions really allow for the incredible stretched out performances. Charles Mingus “Mingus at Antibes” Atlantic cd Charles Mingus – bass, piano Ted Curson – trumpet Eric Dolphy – alto saxophone, bass clarinet Booker Ervin – tenor saxophone Dannie Richmond – drums Bud Powell – piano “I’ll Remember April” Recorded 13 July 1960, Antibes, France
  23. With Lucinda I'm re-watching Project Runway All Stars (season 2 currently, we'll re-watch them all). I'll have the house to myself for a spell today, hoping to watch the new Fantastic Four movie on Blu-ray.
  24. Albert Ayler “Summertime to Spiritual Unity” ezz-thetics cd
  25. My father is the real reason I love music so much, and also have an interest in audio playback. I spent many many hours as a kid and as an adult hearing what he was hearing, and I'm so grateful.
