  1. Listening to this one again. Interesting material... Recorded a year and a half after Johnny Hodges passed. The band was playing interesting arrangements that year and this is an interesting recording which gets better and better as the concert progresses. Duke Ellington "Upsala 1971" Storyville cd
  2. Ah Red Trumpet. I miss that site.
  3. Johnny Coles "Little Johnny C" Blue Note/Audio Wave XRCD24 A great morning disc!
  4. Tania Maria "Intimidade" Blue Note cd This is a really nice one. I've really been enjoying revisiting Tania's work.
  5. Duke Ellington "Upsala 1971" Storyville cd
  6. "Miles Espanol--the New Sketches of Spain" Disc 1
  7. Sure, also Bud Freeman et al.
  8. Piano, drums, and clarinetist or saxophone player was not unheard of in early jazz and Chicago Style.
  9. Miles Davis "Bootleg Series Vol. 4" Sony Blu-Spec CD2 edition, disc 4 This is the full four nights of material that became the "Miles Davis at the Fillmore" 2 LP set. I've had the two LP set and cd editions since '72 or so and LOVE it. I like these four discs as well, but still love to listen to the original Miles/Teo creation.
  10. Gilson et Malagasy box set, disc 4 "Les Touches Noires"
  11. Yes it's a shame. I have two Garcia Tribute guitars built by a luthier named Troy Post that are based on the Wolf guitar by Irwin. Neither is an exact replica but "inspired." One has Garcia's choice pickups, the other three pickups that I chose to have more of a "jazz" sound. I paid about 1000 each. Very happy with them. Alligator was a great guitar. I'd share the same pipe dream to have one of these but it will never happen at this price point.
  12. Continuing my second time through this very interesting box set. Disc 5. Nucleus & Ian Carr "Torrid Zone, The Vertigo Recordings 1970-1975" Each disc in this set is an experience!
  13. So sad. https://www.npr.org/2022/08/24/1119174908/jaimie-branch-trumpet-obituary
  14. Inspired by a post on another forum, and remembering when I met Ravi Shankar, I ordered a used copy of this cd and am listening to it now. If authentic, my cd itself appears to be autographed by Ravi and Anoushka! Interesting music. Nicely recorded.
  15. Kirk Lightsey Trio with Freddie Hubbard "Temptation" Timeless Records/Solid Records Japan 2022, 2 cd set, disc 1
  16. "Tania Maria & Neils-Henning Orsted Pedersen" Another lovely bass and Tania duet album, this time with the extraordinary NHOP. Two masters at play. . . and it does seem playful. I only ever got to see the Mingus Big Band and oh what a powerful experience that was!
  17. Played this one again Bill Evans "Montreux Concert II" CTI RVG UHQCD King Records Japan Followed by George Benson "Carnegie Hall Concert" CTI RVG UHQCD King Records Japan
  18. Barney Wilen with the Mal Waldron Trio "Movie Themes from France" 2022 Japanese cd reissue. This is a great album I've enjoyed for years. Barney Wilen and Mal Waldron make a great pairing, each melodic improvisors who understand song structure so well and how to build and release tension and emotion in musical form. Nice clear recording too.
  19. The Pyramids "AOMAWA: THE 1970s RECORDINGS" disc 2 A brand new 4LP/4 cd box set bringing together the incredible 1970s recordings of Afrofuturism pioneers The Pyramids, led by saxophonist Idris Ackamoor. The set features the remastered LPs Lalibela, King Of Kings and Birth / Speed / Merging alongside the first ever vinyl issue of their live session for KQED TV in 1975. The accompanying 12-page 12”-sized booklet features extended interviews with The Pyramids by Francis Gooding and a host of unseen photos.
  20. Bill Evans "Montreux Concert II" CTI RVG UHQCD King Records Japan

    Joe Henderson

Universal Japan is reissuing Joe Henderson "Mode for Joe" with 2 alternate takes. This could be the one that many have been waiting for with that elusive second alternate. UCCU-5940, October 19
