  1. I'd buy a few discs of just Ellington playing the piano in this studio at this session. Such great sound, and such interesting pianism. Duke Ellington "Indigos" Columbia/Impex Records gold cd
  2. Carmen McRae "Carmen McRae" Mainstream/Solid Records cd Japan This is one of my favorite Carmen releases. She's "on" and clearly enjoying herself. Bass – Victor Sproles Drums – Stuart Martin Piano – Norman Simmons January 1, 1966 and November 2, 1965
  3. Bob Dylan "John Wesley Harding" Mobile Fidelity SACD (stereo) What an incredible album.
  4. Immanuel Wilkins "The 7th Hand" Blue Note cd Wilkins can play.

  12. "Roosevelt." Surprisingly good.
  13. I have three other digital versions of this one. . . and haven't played this one (the first I heard) for years and years. It's pretty crankable and spooky sounding!
  14. I honestly can't tell if it's a needle-drop or not. I certainly don't hear any LP artifacts--I think it is from a tape. It's a bit brighter a mastering than I'd like but that's its only fault.
  15. Tyrone Washington "Roots" Perception/Solid Records cd Japan
  16. I don't envy the producer having to make these decisions. We're lucky we are getting an 11 cd set!
  17. Marquis Hill "New Gospel Revisited" Edition Records cd
  18. Here is what is written in the Producer's Notes: "The vision of this set was to present jazz performances from the Black & White label. The challenge that confronted us was what to include since many sides fall in a grey area between pop vocals backed by jazz musicians (in a strictly accompaniment role) and those sessions in a rhythm and blues context. So, for example, one can argue that certain Lena Horne or Jack McVea titles should have been included here as well as sides by Bob Hayward, Maggie Hathaway, The Robinson Brothers and others. We hope you understand our dilemma and enjoy what has become a part of this set."
  19. The Lena Horne session is not included, as is mentioned in the "Producer's Notes."
  20. Miles Davis "1958" Sony Blu-Spec CD2 One of my favorite blocks of Miles Davis music. And a great sounding cd.
  21. Eliane Elias "I Thought about You--A Tribute to Chet Baker" Concord cd

  23. All three Oval Pro cables have sold. The Statements are still available.
