  1. Miles Davis "Big Fun" 2 LP set, "Ife" Whenever I want to see what condition my condition is in I play a side from these lps. My condition warranted moving on to "Lonely Fire" on LP 2.
  2. Freddie Hubbard "Open Sesame" Blue Note Japan Platinum SHM-CD (mono) Tina Brooks!
  3. "Stan Getz Quartet Live at the Village Gate Nov. 26 1961" disc 2 We're fortunate this was captured on tape.
  4. I am not as confident reading about the severity as you are from my reading. I'd be delighted if you are correct. I remain dubious that we will be where you think we will be in the spring.
  5. I wish I could share your optimism. I don't. I am reading conflicting information about this variant being less severe. As you say, we'll see.
  6. Okay. Won't be happening anytime soon. I'm not surprised we're in this fix. We're not very smart collectively as a species, and we're arguably getting dumber due to technology and how it aids and abets our insane selfishness and xenophobia. The 1918 flu probably would have lasted longer and been worse in great measure had we the global market and transportation we have now. I think we're in for a few more years of this. I hope I'm wrong.
  7. We're definitely in pandemic mode and a long way from any endemic areas.
  8. The flu that we are getting shots for I have read are weaker variants of the 1918 flu. This will likely be case with COVID if we can get past this pandemic stage. Kevin, I feel the same way. It's amazing that in this country years of little lies become superglued onto a Big Lie from a Big Liar and now millions are embracing lies and nonsense and endangering the nation. Somehow this has to end. . . I pray it can and peacefully.
  9. Ella Fitzgerald and Joe Pass (Live) "Sophisticated Lady" OJC cd Wow. Get the volume just right and it's like they are right here. The stereo is really firing on all cylinders this week.
  10. I can remember when local Austin band leader Bill Carter of Bill Carter and the Blame had his song "Why Get Up" (covered by the Fabulous Thunderbirds on LP) picked up by Kellogg for use in commercials for their cereal. He was a lucky dog. . . that was a good year for him.
  11. I've had many copies of Miles Davis "Nefertiti" in various formats but this Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab SACD sounds the very best. This LP cover always confuses me as it seems to me this one should be for "Sorcerer" and that one should be for "Nefertiti!" It always jars me a bit too that Herbie Hancock is in the right channel. Love this music!
  12. Jim Cullum Jazz Band "Porgy 'n Bess" (the studio album, I also have the 2 cd live set). Jim was a real jazz personna in the San Antonio/Central Texas area. I saw him a handful of times and it was always a joy. He mastered the Chicago Style!
  13. There was an OG Star Trek episode where an Omicron infects crew members and makes them idyllically happy. It's just a letter of the Greek alphabet after all.
  14. Tsegué-Maryam Guèbrou "Ethiopia Song" Ethiopiques 21 cd Every time I spin this I find more interesting aspects to enjoy. This reminds me of and evokes in a way the way that I felt when as a younger man I would play the standup piano in the empty church sanctuary at times and also when I would close myself off in a University practice room and play the baby grand. I didn't really take to this at first years ago but. . . it is now an adventure.
  15. "Afro Samba Jazz--The Music of Baden Powell" Mario Adnet and Philippe Baden Powell, Adventure Music cd Killer music and great Adventure Music sound.
  16. Jackie & Roy "A Wilder Alias" CTI Supreme Series Blu-Spec CD. Always an interesting listen. Bass – Harvie Swartz Drums – Steve Gadd Engineer – Rudy Van Gelder Flute – Hubert Laws Piano, Vocals – Roy Kral Producer – Creed Taylor Tenor Saxophone, Soprano Saxophone – Joe Farrell Vibraphone – Roy Pennington Vocals – Jackie Cain
  17. Songbook Vinicius De Moraes Volume 2
  18. Bill Evans "Live at the Keystone Korner 1980 Vol. 2" 2021 Japan Solid Records cd.
  19. A "book" and cd collection of Jobim that was part of a Portuguese newspaper's series of Bossa Nova releases. Great choice of material and late Jobim period performances. Great sound too.
  20. Very much like those on the other Carns though there are a few more singers and there is more of a "song" feeling to the arrangements. I have always liked them, but if seventies jazz funky vocals aren't one's cup of tea. . . .
  21. Doug Carn "Adam's apple" Black Jazz/Real Gone Music cd I haven't heard this one in a long time. I have always liked it. This was the first place I heard Ronnie Laws, and then I picked up on his work again when I moved to Texas.
