Released today, reissue of Calvin Keys Black Jazz album "Proceed with Caution" on Real Gone Music--I'm listening to the cd.

Joe Williams and Dave Pell's Prez Conference "Prez & Joe--In Celebration of Lester Young" Crescendo cd Joe Williams is in fine voice here. This cd is definitely not a victim of "the loudness war." I had to crank this one all the way up! This is the second cd today where I said "wow Budwig--what a bass player!"

Camille Bertault "En Vie"

Herb Ellis "Man with the Guitar" Dot Records/Universal Japan cd UCCU-8233, using 1997 master. Herb Ellis with Teddy Edwards, Stan Levey, Ron Feuer, Monty Budwig Such a cool guitar sound here, and overall the recording is quite nice.

Yes. . . I love all four of the nights, but the second is my favorite. . . I just love the "Masquelero" section. Right now Duke Ellington "Jazz Party" Mobile Fidelity Lab gold cd. Man this is a great session! I love each track. And killer sound! https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/tE4AAOSw0YhhI~5P/s-l1600.jpg

COVID-19 III: No Politics For Thee
jazzbo replied to ghost of miles's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I know that testing is a good method and that outdoors is better than indoors. All this is however up to my sister and her husband who have been navigating this as best as they can for the last few years and surprisingly they have decided to come here from Virginia mostly to see my Dad in hospice this weekend and my wife and my two brothers and their wives may be able to get an outdoor brief rendezvous together. . . that's still up in the air. -
Bob Dylan "The Bootleg Series Vol. 8: Tell Tale Signs" Sony Records cd 1 It's been too long since I spun this set as well. I love the guitar sounds on these tracks! And today I feel as if I've stayed in Mississippi a day too long.

Mosaics you’re still on the hunt for
jazzbo replied to ghost of miles's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
That's what storage units are for! I have all three Commodore sets, a treasure trove. I have nearly every one of the sets I want. I want another copy of the Morgan-Shorter Vee Jay set for a friend. . . but I don't want to spend too much, which is a non-sequitur. One of these days I may break down and do so. -
Aretha Franklin "Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You" It's been too long. This is the OG that made me love soul.

Mosaics you’re still on the hunt for

I have an extra set of the LP of the DeFranco Clark set I tried to sell for the price I paid for it (bought it by accident thinking it was the cd set) earlier this year and got no bites. Can't be that rare. . . I re-priced it a bit lower (100 I think) and still no takers. I think it would be very hard to find at less than that--but it's out there. -
Miles Davis "Bootleg Series Vol. 3" Sony Blu-Spec CD2 edition, disc 2 (Thursday Miles unedited) I was about to play one of my copies of "Miles Davis at Fillmore" which is like audio comfort food for me as it was one of the first LP sets I bought when I returned to America from Africa. . . and then realized I hadn't played the more recent Bootleg Series of these Fillmore Shows uncut and unedited for a spell so I put on this disc. Great sound. . . even though the different instrumental orientation in the mix unnerves me a bit at times. https://www.kind-of-blue.de/bilder/coverscans/bootleg_series_vol3_bluspec/bootleg_series_vol3_bluspec_obi.jpg

COVID-19 III: No Politics For Thee

Yes, maybe we should. I feel for my brother-in-law. After successfully battling lymphoma fourteen years ago it came back, and he has to be so careful that he practically shouldn't leave the house. Even fully vaccinated and boosted his system produces so few antigens and antibodies that he is very vulnerable. I'd love to see he and my sister this holiday season but I may not be possible. This pandemic can be very hard on families. -
'Four' & More, Miles Davis Sony SRCS-9111 cd

Some killer live Aretha! Aretha Franklin "Don't Fight the Feeling--Aretha Franklin and King Curtis--Live at the Fillmore West" disc 2 Great sound as well as moving music.
-
Harold Mabern "Afro Blue" Smoke Sessions cd Some great vocal performances mixed in with these great quartet and sextet performances.

I pulled out the three volumes of this series to listen to this week. These "Songbook" series are excellent compilations. Vinicius de Moraes "Songbook, Volume 1"

Ella Fitzgerald with the Duke Ellington Orchestra "At Duke's Place" Verve cd This is one of my favorite of Ella's collaborations. Just so wonderfully relaxed and the arrangements so tenderly enveloping her. Great music and engineering.
