Yusef Lateef, "Angel Eyes" Savoy 2 LP set. LP 1.
Great music, one marathon session that yielded two LPs. Disc 1 is "The Dreamer"
Featuring the not-recorded-enough Terry Pollard on piano. Yusef sounds gorgeous on oud, flute and tenor sax here. (Not surprising).
Kellee Patterson "Maiden Voyage" Black Jazz Records Japan cd
This one grows on me. I have the new cd reissue from Real Gone Music as well, which may sound a bit better.
I'm really enjoying revisiting the David Sanchez Columbia releases. This is another one with great work by Miguel Zenon included, and I love the way that Sanchez includes Latin feel to the pieces without overwhelming a jazz swing. This one is also well-recorded.
David Sanchez "Melaza"
No you're right, it's part of the Superbit Jazz Classics, another series I collect--remastered by McMaster. (The regular US cd is remixed and remastered by Addey). My bad counting it in among the 24Bit by RVG titles.
Got in from the UK one of the new "Reference" belts from Rega and have to say that it may be an improvement over the "White" belt that was Rega's top of the line before, and it's half the price too. Installed it on my hot rod RP3 and played "Great Expectations" from this:
Miles Davis "Big Fun"
Sounded subtly tighter and more detailed.
Also played this, “Billy Strayhorn Live!” Roulette mono LP. Sounded great.
"Blue Note--The SP Days: 1939 to 1952" disc 4 "Jazz Guitar Classics on Blue Note"
Sessions led by Josh White, Teddy Bunn, Edmond Hall (with Charlie Christian), Jimmy Shirley as leader and Jimmy Shirley with Ike Quebec, Pidgmeat Markham and John Hardee.
I needed more Flora with Duke.
Duke Pearson "How Insensitive" Blue Note Japan cd
And some Andy Bey too. And a great flugelhorn solo by Duke. Great stuff imo.
I won on eBay 7 "24Bit by RVG" Japanese Blue Note releases, all complete with OBI, for 97 dollars including postage. A few are in the "hard to find without losing a limb" category. I feel I did good. I enjoy collecting this series.
David Sanchez "Travesia" Columbia CD
Truly nice sound on this one. Great playing by Miguel Zenon here as well. Hard to believe this is now 20 years old.
