  1. This one got stuck in my player, it just sounds so nice and there's some great playing here. Mario Adnet, "Para Gershwin e Jobim"
  2. Dave Liebman/Joe Lovano "The Music of John Coltrane" With Phil Markowitz, Ron McClure and Billy Hart Lots of energy here!
  3. Those are all good, no question. I do love those two leaders dates though. . . perhaps a bit more.
  4. Mario Adnet "Jobim Jazz" Adventure Music
  5. Yes, this and "In 'n Out" are my favorite Blue Note Joes.
  6. Well it's very nice, I haven't studied it but it's a great addition. This is probably my LEAST favorite album in the set, but it is nice to have it in other than RVG Edition mastering--the Addey from the digital transfers is very nice. On the Hoffman forum a member Dan Steele had this to say--he's a bit fan of the album: My Joe Henderson box arrived. First play was of course the Mode for Joe alt take, I was like a kid in a candy store for 9 1/2 min, sitting slack jawed. I know every note of the original as its my favorite song ever so to hear a completely different Joe solo right out of the gate was disorienting but also exhilarating. There will be some side by side plays of those 2 takes in the near future! CD sounds wonderful and I like how they put the alt takes at the end. Disc 5 is Mode for Joe complete (first six tracks) with 2 alt tracks (Black and title track). Seems like they did the best they could with track sequencing not chopping up the albums across CDs. Really nice 15 page booklet too, like all Mosaic boxes. Very happy with it!
  7. Joe Lovano "Landmarks" Blue Note cd.
  8. Johnny Hodges and his Orchestra "Blues A-Plenty" Verve/Analogue Productions SACD I needed some Hodges magic this morning.
  9. David Sanchez "Obsesion" Columbia cd. A beautifully arranged lush recording.
  10. No, she recorded into the second half of the 'seventies.
  11. Okay, there was just too much compression for me to deal with at the moment. I've moved on to something beautiful and calming to listen to, Mario Adnet's "Amazonia"
  12. Freddie Hubbard "The Hub of Hubbard" MPS cd. Rather hot recording and mastering but very good music. Bass – Richard Davis Drums – Louis Hayes Piano – Roland Hanna Tenor Saxophone – Eddie Daniels Trumpet – Freddie Hubbard
  13. Why not one more Blue Note? Lee Morgan "The Rumproller" 24Bit by RVG Japan cd. The birds outside seem to like this one too, they're singing out.
  14. Been off the web a little less than usual--my wife asked me to try and spend less time online and I'm trying to honor her as I pledged to do. I took some time off to make moussaka last night. . . and used lamb for the first time. Came out well! Last night I played two different Keith Jarrett Quartet discs, with two different Quartets, "Personal Mountains" and "Eyes of the Heart." There's a reason these haven't been spun in a while--neither is among my favorite Jarretts. But was fun to spin them again. This morning I was on a Blue Note kick. First Wayne Shorter, "Juju" Blue Note Japan 24Bit by RVG cd. And then a newer Blue Note, Cassandra Wilson "Glamoured" Finally so far today "The Complete Joe Henderson Blue Note Studio Sessions" disc 5, "Mode for Joe" and alternates.
  15. Japanese version was 3 cds.

    Archie Shepp

It's been on cd in the past. That cd is expensive now!
  17. "The Complete Joe Henderson Blue Note Studio Sessions" Disc 4 Sounds great.
  18. "Honi Gordon Sings" Prestige cd I love the song "Strollin'" . . . this version and others. Haven't spun this cd in some time and I'm enjoying the revisit. Great band with Byard, McIntyre, Richardson, Duvivier and Shaughnessy.
  19. Hank Mobley "Roll Call" Blue Note Japan 24bit by RVG cd. Lots of energy in that recording space
  20. “The Complete Joe Henderson Blue Note Studio Sessions” Disc 3 Sounds great.
  21. "The Complete Joe Henderson Blue Note Studio Sessions" Disc 1 Sounds great.
