  1. The birthday boy. . . . Duke Ellington "Piano in the Background" from the second Complete Columbia Albums" box set. Interesting re-thinkings of classic Ellingtonia, the Orchestra and the "Piano Player" having fun in tht classic studio with its killer sound.
  2. This one got stuck in my player, it just sounds so nice and there's some great playing here. Mario Adnet, "Para Gershwin e Jobim"
  3. OK. Just checking. Do you think the seller is being devious?

    Bob Dylan corner

Nice thoughts. I'm different though, Self Portrait was the first Dylan release I bought when it came out and I have a great sentimental feeling about it, I like it and all its trimmings. Nashville Syline. . . not so much.

    Frank Zappa

Can't be the Zebop album as it was recorded before PRS started making guitars. . . .
  6. John Coltrane had been dead more than a decade before any CD was produced. . .so it's not a signature from him!
  7. There's a 3 LP set that is an RSD item, but the 2 cd set comes out in June and can be pre-ordered via amazon, and I assume elsewhere.
  8. Mario Adnet "Para Gershwin y Jobim" This is a beautiful cd. I love the way he weaves Gershwin into Jobim. And there's great trombone playing on this one.
  9. Wow, that's exciting. Thanks for posting this. I too have pre-ordered.
  10. "An Intimate Evening with Nancy Harrow" cdbaby cd As good as you think it might be with Roland Hanna accompanying her.
  11. David Sanchez "Sketches of Dreams" Columbia cd Just right for the here and now.
  12. I love this set too. Nice breakdown.
  13. Some awesome grooves, and that clarinet!
  14. Miles Davis "Miles in the Sky" Mobile Fidelity SACD I've rolled a few amazing tubes lately and had to listen to something very familiar to see "what condition my condition is in." My condition is very good. LOVE this music. It's become part of my brain language.
  15. Hasaan Ibn Ali "Metaphysics--The Lost Atlantic Album" Omnivore Records cd The second and final album Ali released in his lifetime, the original stereo and mono tapes lost in the "great fire," a tape recorded from mono acetates finally mastered and released this week (as most here likely already know). Dense, fascinating music in decent sound. Such a loss that this and the trio album with Roach are all we have. There’s a chance some private recordings may see the light of day according to the liners. Art Davis is wonderful here, an anchor on a stormy sea.
  16. USPS strikes again. I sent a package of music to "the one that got away" (to her office in a state building) on August 2, 2020. I figured it was long lost. The internal mail brought it to her office this week. Several weak links there. . . but I'm glad it finally made it.
  17. Yes, cdjapan is the better option I pursue as well--you can get 6 or 7 cds for about 23 dollars DHL'd to you in three or four days--decent price and great service. I've had good luck with discogs sellers as well. . . takes some time but not excessive and not one miss in all the hits.
  18. Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers "Just Coolin'" Blue Note CD Not my favorite cover (red and yellow are cool colors?) but I've warmed to the music more since it's been released.
  19. Yes, I'm most familiar with this one from the LP days. . . I kindof dig it, would make a nice hard-boiled crime novel cover. Now Andrew Hill "Dusk"
  20. Andrew Hill "Dance with Death" Blue Note Japan cd Great session with Farrell, Toliver, Sprolles and Higgins.
  21. Dave Douglas Quintet "Brazen Heart" disc 2
  22. Thelonious Monk "The Lost Recordings: Rotterdam 1967" disc 2 Splendid sounding mono recording from the European tour with the All Star Octet. Thelonious Monk Charlie Rouse Larry Gales Ben Riley Ray Copeland Johnny Griffin Phil Woods Clark Terry Jimmy Cleveland
  23. Yes. . that's an awesome set.
  24. Rahsaan Roland Kirk "Boogie Woogie String Along For Real" Warner Japan cd This one has Sammy Price, and Tiny Grimes, on some tracks. Even at the end Kirk was a force.
