  1. I agree. I just don't always connect with interpretations and inspirations of/from those compositions. But some are fascinating. Now
  2. Chick Corea Trio "Trilogy" disc 1
  3. No, it's music done by others after his death. Tributes, bands inspired by Ra, etc. His take on "Mausoleum."
  4. "The Complete Pacific Jazz Recordings of the Chet Baker Quartet with Russ Freeman" Disc 1 I forget sometimes how intriguing Russ Freeman's piano playing was at this time.
  5. EABS "Discipline of Sun Ra" cd Well, it's mastered hotter than I'd like a cd to be. That said it's a very interesting listen, an updated Sun Ra sound, recorded with a smoothness one could wish some of the Sun Ra recordings were. I don't usually get into what a friend of mine calls "Ra-souleum" material, but I'll be returning to this one. A good recording to test tube rectifiers with!
  6. Milt Jackson and the Gold Medal Winners "Brother Jim" Pablo cd Quite a band! They are enjoying playing together.
  7. "The Complete Capitol Live Recordings of George Shearing" Mosaic Records cd 1 Great sound on this box set (mastered by Malcolm Addey)--the Capitol recordings of this era almost always sound excellent. Nice breezy feel to the music.
  8. I have a 2 cd Japanese version that sounds very good; I honestly don't think the Evidence version would be better.
  9. Miles plays some on "Milestones" album.
  10. My wife and I are scheduled for Friday a.m.
  11. Yes, I talked to him for 90 minutes or so over 20 years ago as an interview about Alfred Lion. He's first and foremost a jazz fan as we all are. It was a pleasure interviewing him.
  12. No, you've done right, seems they are not listing music at this time.
  13. I went for the Shearing as I had given mine away to a friend . . . and I miss it. I think Jim may have bought the Basie Live. . . that was an excellent price.
  14. Albert Ayler "Music is the Healing Force of the Universe" Impulse/Universal Japan SHM-CD. I forgot about the bagpipes. . .not a fan of those but I like the rest of the album a lot, it's one of a kind. Ali on drums adds a lot. Didn't know what to follow this with. . . decided on Kenny Drew "Talkin' and Walkin'" Blue Note US cd
  15. Yes, I still buy books from them once a year or so. Don't get their catalogs in the mail any longer.
  16. I haven't heard that particular earlier reissue from Japan. These do not sound the way you describe. The majority of them are mono mixes as well (this particular one has a few stereo tracks). I have been very happy with the ones I have ordered.
  17. I like Mr. Most a lot as well.
  18. Phil Woods "Rights of Swing" Candid Records/Solid Records Japan mono cd
  19. "The Jazz Life" Candid Records/Solid Records Japan cd. This is perhaps the one Candid I never owned before. And damn it sound so good in this issue! There are more Candid releases from Solid Records released today; I have another shipment from cdJapan on the way to me.
  20. Dave Douglas "Dizzy Atmosphere" I like this one a little more each time i spin it.
  21. Such a great album.
  22. Lafayette Gilchrist and the New Volcanoes "It came from Baltimore--Live at the Windup Space Vol 1" disc 2
  23. Miles Davis "Four" & More, SACD This music never gets old. Never.
