  1. Sad news. I first learned of him from Weather Report. R.I.P. Andrew.
  2. My streak of good luck concerning my father's assisted living/independent living/nursing complex has ended. Yesterday five residents in his assisted living tested positive! They are isolated and all residents are confined to their rooms. A blow to my Dad who has been enjoying meals in the dining room and exercising at the Nu-Step machine in a common room about fifty steps from his door. . . . I just pray they can continue to keep him safe!
  3. SF Jazz Collective "Music of Joe Henderson & Original Compositions" disc 2 [/img]
  4. I've seen them in Ohio and Texas and points in between.
  5. Maybe it was Rock Concert. Can't remember. Never watched TV in that decade to be honest and so I never saw it and only the memory of the event remains. My late first wife was there. . . with someone else who beat me to the punch asking her to go. That has my memory jolted into place. . . I was jealous but the music got me over it. The next month I got to take her out on a major date and that was the ticket that took me to our romance. . . sixteen years later!
  6. SF Jazz Collective "In A Silent Way/Stand!" David Sánchez tenor saxophone Etienne Charles trumpet Warren Wolf vibraphone Adam Rogers guitar Edward Simon piano Ben Williams bass Thomas Pridgen drums Martin Luther McCoy vocals
  7. Now playing The first disc from this box set: "Black Composers Series" Sony
  8. "Fly by Fly" Mark Turner/Larry Grenadier/Jeff Ballard, Savoy Jazz cd Followed by "Dippin'" Hank Mobley, 24 Bit by RVG Blue Note Japan cd.
  9. I'm glad this doesn't have the show that I attended (with Blue Mitchell in the band) when at the University of Chicago, a show taped for TV broadcast on "The Midnight Special." At one end of the hall was The Ohio Players, on the other John Mayall. What a night! If it were in the set I might have to buy the darned thing.
  10. Re-watching "Pennyworth" Season 1 in prep for Season 2
  11. SF Jazz Collective "Original Compositions and Works of Thelonious Monk" disc 2
  12. Nat Birchall "Mysticism of Sound" cd
  13. Thelonious Monk "Misterioso" Columbia stereo LP
  14. Hermeto Pascoal "Hermeto" Muse Records LP
  15. That was not enough Big T. Jack Teagarden "Big T's Dixieland Band" Capitol mono LP Jack really knew how to pick and present a band. I especially like those, like this one, where Don Ewell is on piano and Ronny Greb is on drums.
  16. Bobby Hackett/Jack Teagarden "Jazz Ultimate" Capitol LP
  17. SF Jazz Collective, "Works of Horace Silver and New Compositions" Been looking forward to this one. Worth the wait. I love the way "Lonely Woman" becomes a boisterous caravan serai then chills so gracefully.
  18. Charlie Parker, "The Savoy 10 Inch LP Collection" Concord cd Sound is pretty darned good. I thought a 10 inch was an EP? Regardless this was a good excuse to buy this material over again!
  19. This was recorded in the studio in 2012, after the 2011 tour. There's a new flood of copies of these sets lately on both amazon and Dusty Groove--the latter are cheaper when they have them. I have a few on the way that I think complete my collection. Yes, I'd love to see a Hutcherson tour planned and recorded.
  20. Horace Silver Quintet, "The Stylings of Silver" 24 bit by RVG Blue Note Japan cd
  21. SF Jazz Collective "Wonder: the Music of Stevie Wonder" A studio album (not a compilation from the live cds of the tour for this music by the Collective). Quite nice.
  22. At least right here where I am this Q conspiracy network is so much larger than any conspiracy theories that we fostered and lived among before, and though in this instance little old ladies were driving the SUVs with the stickers those I actually have heard and read discussing the BS were in their twenties and thirties, definitely not boomers. And it's a nasty and dangerous web of lies, that threatens the distribution of truth and like all good delusions is impervious to "truth" and has its own loop of logic, a circle very hard to be broken. In my own opinion the challenges of the next decade are to shine disinfecting light on systemic racism and slice up the gap between the haves and have nots in this nation, and this Q is going to be a major hindrance on the journey.
  23. I realize more and more that I am very fortunate all my own family are firmly in the same camp. This Q-Anon is awful. It has crept into the Facebook posts of a few of my in-laws, and on the way to and from my weekly grocery store run this morning I saw two Q stickers on SUVs, both driven by . ..the stereotypical little old ladies. Just scary and apalling.
