  1. There was a Mosaic box set of some very good Blue Note material.
  2. Ben Webster "Saturday Night at the Montmartre" Muzak Japan 2 cd set, disc 1 Great sound for this material.
  3. SFJazz Collective "Music of Michael Jackson and Original Compositions" disc 2 I confess when I first get to know a few of their tour recordings of the pop music I think "These arrangements and sounds are a bit cheesey" for a few minutes and then BOOM I'm bowled over by trombone solos, or drum and bass grooves, or that alto sax right where it should be and I'm gone on a cool listening journey.
  4. Okay, I'm glad you dig it so much. "Sounding" only gets an album so far with me. I would need two hands to count the Grateful Dead studio albums I think are more substantial musically than this one.
  5. I don't think so, though he was not alone in being very concerned by Jerry's heroin addiction. Here's an interview with interesting material: https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/grateful-deads-robert-hunter-on-jerrys-final-days-we-were-brothers-97334/
  6. Cassandra Wilson "Song Book" Verve (compilation of JMT Records material)
  7. Dave Brubeck "Time OutTakes"
  8. That's the first and only time I've ever seen "Go to Heaven" described as a masterpiece.
  9. Mark Turner "Dharma Days" Warner Bros. cd
  10. Dale Fielder "Dear Sir: Tribute to Wayne Shorter" Clarion Jazz cd
  11. Dexter Gordon "Montmartre 1964" Storyville cd
  12. Actually I saw them in '80 with Brent and after seeing them several times with Keith and Donna it was a big let down. "Go to Heaven" had a few good songs (I confess I do love "Althea") but I hated Brent's songs and singing and the band's "feel" had changed not to my liking in concert. I was becoming discenchanted with rock in general and getting more and more into jazz from fusion and I just dropped the Dead--and other bands. I touched base with the Dead now and then after that and nothing drew me in. When I got back into the Dead this century I found nothing had changed. I like pre-1980 (espeically from the start to the "retirement") and didn't get into anything from beyond.
  13. Keith Jarrett Trio "Tokyo '96" ECM cd

  19. Miles Davis "Big Fun" disc 1. Today is a great day for "Great Expectations"
  20. Haven't seen that, don't have Netflix. My neice is a beautiful woman and so damned sweet. Gives me hope for the human race. Edit to add: I looked the actress up. Some similarities, especially the eyes, but not a close match. Both are stunning.
  21. Ricardo Grilli "1954"
  22. Thank you. Last night he was moved from the hospital to the "skilled nursing" wing of his assisted-living facility for "rehabilitation." He is sounding much better and we're optimistic that in (an unspecified length of) time he can return to his apartment. Hopefully we dodged a bullet; m siblings and I are NOT ready to lose him yet.
