  1. Louis Armstrong & Duke Ellington "The Great Summit--Complete Sessions" on Roulette cds. This keeps giving me more and more enjoyment year after year. I love the song "Azalea."
  2. I don't need to but I would buy a few of the LP sets. I have the Commodores, the Monk, the McLean and the James P. Johnson et al, and Chaloff. . . would go for any of the others if I saw prices that weren't astronomical. Of CD sets I think I'm really only looking for the Vee-Jay Morgan and Shorter. I would love to have this to give to my brother as a gift as he loves these two and the Dee-Jay work and has Blue Moon titles. . . .
  3. Finally starting this box set. . . the first disc of rehearsals. Sort of a slog. . . interesting but not easy listening. Bob Dylan "The Rolling Thunder Revue--the 1975 Live Recordings"
  4. Managed to sneak most of this one in. Boy was it made for Saturday night! Baby Face Willette "Face to Face" Blue Note Japan Rudy Van Gelder LP Facsimile edition.
  5. I became addicted to Ruta Maya medium roast in Austin, and luckily I can get the 2.2 lb bags from Amazon now sent to me here in Ohio. I grind it rather fine and use a #2 Melita brown filter set up to make a cup. Delicious! The only coffee in my home.
  6. Experimenting with tube-rolling today and have enjoyed Chick Corea & Origin "Change" Ed Motta "AOR" Hank Mobley "Dippin'" (Blue Note/AP SACD)
  7. Gene Bertoncini "Jobim--Someone to Light Up my Life"
  8. Hi-res files on a dvdr that a friend sent me some years ago. He has this labeled as 96/24, but my DAC says it's 192/24. Sure sounds great. Lou Donaldson, "Alligator Boogaloo" Blue Note

  11. John Coltrane "Coltrane '58" disc 5 Followed by Duke Ellington "Third Sacred Concert" Followed by Greg Osby "The Invisible Hand" "The Invisible Hand" is a gem.
  12. I love this "Piano Masters" series and wish there were more. This one is Phillipe Baden Powell. . . who is the virtuoso on piano that his father was on guitar.
  13. Roky lived in our neighborhood in Austin in the mid-'eighties for a while. A roommate invited him to one of our parties. He came and hung out very quietly, rather gloomily. In one of the bands I was in we covered "The Kingdom of Heaven." RIP Roky.
  14. Absolutely. I have two of their Hippo-Select sets.
  15. Jovino Santos Neto "Piano Masters" Adventure Music cd followed by Jovino Santos Neto Quintet "Current" Adventure Music cd Both are wonderful recordings.
  16. Right, it was the studio albums by the Quartet.
  17. It's true that it did not come out on cd until it appeared in Japan in '98 and not in the US until that Complete Album Collection box set came out. It's interesting that Brubeck didn't seem to value the album; I myself like it a LOT.
  18. Delivers great jazz music. Small group, 7/27/58, Seattle WA. Jackson with Dick Oakley, Jerry Fuller, Don Ewell, Stan Puls and Ronny Grebs.
  19. Jack Teagarden "Texas Trombone--Live!" Star Line Productions cd Not fantastic sound but if you crank it it delivers!

  23. One thing I'm thankful for is that there aren't a lot of amateur jazz drum circle recordings.
