  1. I finally got around to this excellent live recording. Masabumi Kikuchi "Black Orpheus" ECM
  2. It's all over now Baby Blue. Was an okay finale I suppose.
  3. Thelonious Monk "The Complete Blue Note Recordings of Thelonious Monk" Mosaic Records. LP 2 and 3
  4. Sure looks like a Parisian club. "Batterie" may have been added (by Art or someone else) jus t to identify him as his signature is not necessarily near him, similar to how Walter Davis is identified as "piano". . . .
  5. Horace Silver, "The Jody Grind" Blue Note Universal UHQCD
  6. I can understand that. I've gone into deep audiophile land and listening to different masterings can inform me how to get better sound from my system, which I enjoy, so I like to listen to different editions as well as entirely new material.
  7. That's cool. I think Peter wrote "Disc. 1" in error, I know of no two cd version. The XCRCD24 sounds fantastic, but the RVG sounds really good as well. Nice session.
  8. Johnny Hammond "Gambler's Life" CTI Supreme Blu-Spec CD. It's a funky morning. . . out there and in here.
  9. That is the cover for the XRCD24 from JVC. . . It's a different cover from Blue Note editions.
  10. I haven't done a direct comparison but I think so.
  11. John Coltrane "Coltrane '58: The Prestige Recordings" Disc 2
  12. Miles Davis "At the Plugged Nickel Live Chicago" Sony 2 CD set Followed by Rhiannon Giddens "There is No Other" Nonesuch cd
  13. I dig them a lot. Re: those lyrics though. . .sometimes when I hear them I think "Listening to Coltrane seems almost as bad to her as going through all that relationship crap."
  14. The upcoming Greene shows only ten cuts on CDJapan, and there is no track listing for the Taylor. Seems unlikely the bonus material is present.
  15. McCoy Tyner "Sahara"
  16. I hear it myself especially in some solos on the first sessions on the box. The way he structures what I would call the "scalar runs."
  17. I told myself I wasn't going to buy this set, I've bought this material so many times, and I did resist the ridiculous price fo the LP set, but saw a great deal on the cd set and went for it. I did so because I read really positive remarks about the remastering by Paul Blackmore. This engineer did fantastic work for Universal Japan in their Prestige etc. reissue series, doing DSD remastering. So I expected good sound. And I got it. Really nice sound. I'm enjoying going through these recordings again. This time around I have noticed a Cannonball influence on Trane I hadn't before, and this week with these and other recordings I'm impressed with Donald Byrd yet again. John Coltrane "Coltrane '58" Cds 1 and 4.
  18. Disc 2 of 3 "John Coltrane & Friends"
  19. The LP facsimile 24 bit Blue Note RVG reissues from Japan are sounding really nice on my system lately, especially as I can press a button and reverse phase and several sound better that way. I'm starting to look for these used at good prices. The cds didn't always sound that great to me, but things change as your system does. Now playing Donald Byrd "The Cat Walk" Blue Note Japan.
  20. I came to Tania Maria late, experiencing her via a riveting segment of a performance DVD of her very talented nephew, Ed Motta. She's a wonderful talent full of a quirky energy and a very well-crafted musical vision. This one with Pedersen is one of my favorites, there's some drama and funk here that is contagious. And one of those rare cds that sounds better as you turn it up. Tania Maria & Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen "Live in Copenhagen"
  21. It's already been released at least in large part on the blu-ray.
  22. Mal Waldron "Mal-1" or "All the Things You could be if Charles Mingus was once Your Employer". . . . This is a very Mingusian session imo. Listening to. very early Japanese Prestige cd. Followed by This excellent Kenny Burrell session. I always forget how good this one is. "Midnight Blue," Platinum SHM-SACD from Blue Note Japan.
  23. I think it's Mal Waldron.
  24. July titles. Some good "returns" here imo. http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/products?term.prodkey=UCCQ-9521,UCCQ-9522,UCCQ-9523,UCCQ-9524,UCCQ-9525,UCCQ-9526,UCCQ-9527,UCCQ-9528,UCCQ-9529,UCCQ-9530,UCCQ-9531,UCCQ-9532,UCCQ-9533,UCCQ-9534,UCCQ-9535,UCCQ-9536,UCCQ-9537,UCCQ-9538,UCCQ-9539,UCCQ-9540,UCCQ-9541,UCCQ-9542,UCCQ-9543,UCCQ-9544,UCCQ-9545,UCCQ-9546,UCCQ-9547,UCCQ-9548,UCCQ-9549,UCCQ-9550
