He was furious that Sudhaulter included "legendary" and anecdotal information not held up by fact. That was the impetus for him to write his own book (with his wife's help) including "just the facts."

Honestly, I think I've read most, not "Finding Bix" though. The one to get is: Bix: The Leon Bix Beiderbecke Story by Philip R. Evans and Linda K. Evans This book was meticulously researched and the author's intent was to strip away all the legend and present real verified details and as much true information as possible. A fascinating book. Sudhalter's is full of myth and legend presented as fact and it often isn't. Berton's and Lion/Paige-Fort are good reads.

Will be interesting to see what mastering is used on these. Some of the recent UHQCD releases have used earlier mastering including Connoisseur mastering.

The Bethlehem is indeed interesting. Don't buy the 'seventies LP box reissue, horrid sound. I have had the 2 cd issued, and have replaced it with a Solid Record (Japan) reissue set that is the best sounding I've heard. It took me a bit to appreciate, but this rewards listening.

I'm listening to a compilation I made of all the tracks Ed Motta recorded over the course of a few years for a series of "Songbook" cd volumes featuring the compositions of Brazilian songwriters. This is a great group of work and surprisingly administering them chronologically is a great sequence. I love Motta's singing, composing and playing. He's a big man, and an even bigger talent.

There's lots of speculation about this set but no real info yet other than an image. Announcement seems delayed until the Scorcese documentary release date is announced by Netflix. It seems unlikely that Renaldo and Clara will be included. Yes, there was a bootleg series release already, a 2 cd compilation that had a short DVD of a few performances included in some if not all releases; THIS set is not part of the Bootleg Series. The speculation is that this may not have sets by other artists, as that might be a licensing hassle, but it's not yet certain. The most likely speculation seems to be five two cd shows, three discs of rehearsals, and a disc of rare bits and pieces.

There's a '75 tour box set coming out probably in June to supplement the Netflix documentary. It seems to have 14 cds. A picture so far is all that has really leaked; an announcement should be out soon.

There's age differences at play. . . . I got into rock and jazz about the same time. The first LPs of my own I had were jazz records handed to me by someone who didn't want them, Atlantic titles from the early sixties. I collected jazz and rock side by side until the late-'eighties, when I just sort of stopped buying anything but jazz for a long time. . . .

I don't believe anyone has yet received the cd version.

I was an early Pink Floyd fan as it was happening, and listened with interest up to Dark Side of the Moon. That one got overplayed, was at every stoner party and in every stoner car and in every stoner home at the time and beyond, and I just didn't want to hear it. Wish You Were Here came along and was new and interesting for a while, and then it too became a boring thing heard over and over. Then Animals, rinse and repeat. I stopped both frequenting places I would hear these played and seeking out listening to them at that point and moved deeper and deeper into jazz and further and further away from most rock, really only keeping an ear to Hendrix who was a pinnacle of rock and soul for me.

That's a good one, but I prefer Pops and his Orchestra on that tune.

Rimsy Korsakoff "Scheherezade" Moscow State Symphony Orchestra on Classic Records 24/192 DVD Audio disc. I received about a dozen of these 2 disc sets (cd, and dual DVD one side 24/96, one 24/192) which are on sale at Acoustic Sounds for 2 to 7 dollars each or so, worth checking out. Phenomenal sound.

It's a good album, has been on cd in Japan.

The Betty Carter stuff on Roulette is NECESSARY. Would be great to have that in print again.

Under the Roulette label Warner Japan released the Count Basie and most of the Jack Teagarden and Johnny Smith catalogues, as well as others. These sound FANTASTIC. I think I got them all and I'd like to see them continue to release Roulette titles, such as the rest of the Tyree Glenn. They've done these right. I haven't seen these Parlophone reissues. I'd like to see them do any of the Roost or Roulette titles, these are good recordings.
