  1. Re-listeing to disc 5 of this new box set. In part because it is one of the parts of this box set I did not have before, and in part because I just don’t want to get to the end of this set so am saving disc 6 for . . . probably tomorrow.
  2. Another cool and damp morning. We’re finally getting typical November weather, though I think we’ll have a few warmer and sunnier days starting tomorrow. I love the quiet and peaceful vibe of this time of morning outside. Started off with a re-spin of some of the Garland at the Prelude disc 1 then saw Ron Carter talking about Stanley Turrentine’s “Sugar” on Facebook and decided to spin this “CITI-RVG” cd version from King Records Japan. What a great session with Freddie Hubbard and George Benson and Ron Carter.
  3. The Japanese have reissued these dates on cd more than once. I don't think that is a reason the US Blue Note hasn't; in general the expansive reissue objective we saw at the time of "Doubletime" just can't or won't exist today.
  4. 600×600 114 KB “The Red Garland Trio at the Prelude” Complete, 2 cd, Prestige Records, disc 1 Red Garland - piano Jimmy Rowser - bass Charles “Specs” Wright - drums
  5. Jackie McLean “Jackie’s Bag” Blue Note Japan RVG SHM-CD On to something else. . . hard bop and one of the appearances of the “gone too soon” Tina Brooks. The opening track, “Quadrangle,” seems an early response to the Ornette Coleman Quartet with some wonderful drumming from Philly Joe Jones.
  6. Linda Keene “The Dixie Songbird’s Complete Recordings” Fresh Sound 2 cd set, disc 1
  7. Another fascinating Bill Evans release. Seems a good fit for this cold rainy (very soggy) morning. “The Bill Evans Album” Sony Blu-Spec CD2 170×170 6.67 KB This originally released 1971 album featured four new Evans compositions, and was the first album to feature only his compositions. With Eddie Gomez and Marty Morell.
  8. “Bill Evans Piano Player” Sony Blu-Spec CD2 300×298 7.02 KB Great sounding cd.
  9. Bennie Green “Back on the Scene” Blue Note RVG Japan SHM-CD 2024 500×499 72.4 KB Love Bennie Green’s albums! Bennie Green – trombone Charlie Rouse – tenor saxophone Joe Knight – piano George Tucker – bass Louis Hayes – drums
  10. Melissa Aldana “12 Stars” Blue Note cd 300×293 8.09 KB
  11. That was really good. But. . . I don't necessarily assume the music is "out there." Or perhaps more clearly that they are "available." There I am sure are many things of all types I would like to hear that just aren't able to be licensed and released fro many reasons. There is so much of so many artists that are available to listen to that I will spend the rest of my life looking for and listening to that. . . well it would be great for a box set of Carter material but if it doesn't appear I'll be fine. I love that woman's work. I'll listen to what I do have, which I think is all the official, over and over.
  12. There may be many reasons why there is no Mosaic set for Betty. And it's possible one day we'll see one, who knows? She's a hero of mine, she was so so so brave to blaze her own trail and she was a very accomplished talent scout and bandleader. I know I have personally suggested a box set of hers to Mosaic. Maybe one day.
  13. Bob Dylan and the Band “The 1974 Live Recordings” 500×500 30.1 KB disc 6, again
  14. Roy Haynes and Sarah Vaughan during her 1954 European tour

    Roy Haynes RIP

I forgot about that. He's a great player.
  16. My copy of the new SACD should arrive from cdjapan today. . . getting ready by listening to my cd copy. (I also have my original LP . . . but not in my listening room at the moment). Santana "Borboletta "Japan cd A favorite Santana release!
  17. On to disc 5 of this new box set.
  18. Andrew Hill “Smoke Stack” Blue Note Japan RVG edition SHM-CD 2024 Just in yesterday from Japan. . . this is now my best sounding version of this perhaps favorite Andrew Hill session. RIP Mr. Haynes.
  19. John Hicks Trio “Nightwind: An Erroll Garner Songbook” HighNote cd Swinging my way into this cold morning. Up earlier than I’d like to be but I’ll spin a few discvs and try to get Fiona the dachshund back to sleep and take a nap myself. This is a great disc!
  20. Her birthdate may be earlrier, that happens. But she sounds very much like Dina Washington singing the blues on this blues material, some really nice tenor accompaniment and some raw horn arrangements that are effective.
  21. As Kevin noted, it's the same with some extra external Japanese material. I guess that copies to cdjapan were limited--it's no longer available for sale. All my other volumes of the Bootleg Series are the Japanese, so I'm happy to have this one.
  22. +1 from Dan's comment. You've been missed.
