  1. Between FEARLESS LEADER and INTERPLAY, is there a clear winner or are both just really good (and basically equal in strength)? I don't have any pre-Atlantic/Columbia (i.e. with Miles) Coltrane and I've yet to receive Sidesteps in the mail. If you're only going to get one of the two right now, I'd recommend "Fearless Leader." I prefer the music on this one, though both are excellent collections.
  2. Maybe so. . . but you can pre-order it now from cduniverse for January delivery. Great news!
  3. Many many more more!
  4. So glad you're back! Have a great one and many more happy returns!
  5. Yeah Dave, pretty ridiculous budget guitar from Gibson: http://www.musicradar.com/news/guitars/jim...packages-220786 "...a deluxe guitar package the way Jimi would have liked it." Um. . . yeah, right.
  6. I agree this won't mean much. We'll be asked to buy the "humous" items again, and they'll take over the helm of Dagger and we won't see much that is different. Seems a sign that this is more comfortable for the family than trying to independently do all they've done.

  8. There were at least nine Quintessential discs Flurin. . . nine I think. The notes didn't have to be altered much. Not sure the live material was on these discs, but it was in a former box set from Columbia with notes by Brooks.
  9. "renowned little known"
  10. I don't blame you at all for being into vintage guitars! I know they suit you and can be wonderful. I was surprised to read you are playing Strat! Let us know if you ever try a John Lee Hooker Sheraton. I love John Lee. . . I bet those are nice!
  11. Well, I know you love vintage guitars. Me too. But I've been really really pleased with the top of the line USA Fenders produced this decade that I've played, I think they're real quality to rival the past with new innovations electronically, etc. and much more affordable. My "Deluxe" Strat and basses are works of art that play wonderfully. I'm a happy camper!
  12. I'm thinking about selling my Music Man Sterling fretless bass, I never play it any more. The amp I use the most is a '67 Fender silverface Bassman head through a 12" cabinet. And I use a THD Hotplate to keep the volume down. I have a bunch of other amps, mostly Fender that all need work. Those Hot Plates REALLY work. In addition to my Bassman I have a modified Musicmaster that is cool for bedroom use. Really detailed, really bright and chimey. You can probably get some nice coin for that Musicman. I love my Wishbass fretless.
  13. Bet that's a great sounding, unique sounding (these days) set up Allen. Hope you have a great recording.
  14. Many many happy returns!
  15. Have a fantastic day!
  16. Pretty!
  17. Yes, I've had the Bassman for some months now and it completely displaces other amps for me. I love the depth of the tone and the way it "space invades" the whole room. I also love that it works for my basses and my guitars. Of late I just leave it "flat" and adjust with my guitar's tone knobs and always have sounds I want right there. Strats are addictive. I have a mahogany Deluxe that I love to play and play. The Jazzmaster wins out lately though because. . . I like the tone better, the result of the bridge and the pickups I guess, both quite different from the Strat format. I'm really into bass lately though, and have the grooved fingertips to prove it!
  18. Thanks for weighing in Joe. I've never had my hands on a Hohner, but I know you make them sound excellent and they sure look like fabulously built guitars.
  19. So guys what guitars are you playing these days (if you have more than one, I know what BF is playing, and probably Shawn)? I've been playing mainly bass these days. My Fender American Deluxe Jazz mostly, such a fantastic instrument, so well put together. I've fallen for the maple neck, never thought I'd love a maple neck on a bass, but there it is. Love the sounds I can get from this on my '59 Reissue Bassman. Such a spectrum of sounds and tones. The Jazzmaster is the six-stringer I've been playing. I've really bonded with that guitar. Just feels like a master built it. Maybe they did! I'm probably going to pare my collection down to three guitars and three basses and two amps. Wouldn't surprise me if I end up with all Fenders!
  20. Ron, Radically improved? No. They're improved though I believe. A bit more open, less congested sounding. Neither are too bright. You can hold steady with the big box if you have it, you're not missing out on a trememdous new remastering. Though I DO like the way these sets are compiled thematically, makes sense and makes good listening.
  21. Many many happy happy returns my friend!
  22. Me too. I went for this rather than the six cds of MP3s. . . .
  23. Oh yes. All three of these boxes are "solid collections."
  24. Neanderthal Enigma by James Shreeve
