  1. “O Universo Musical de Baden Powell” Sunnyside 2 cd set, disc 1 Dug this out of the shelves. . .I neglected it too long.
  2. Miles Davis “Kind of Blue” Ultra-Hd/32Bit Pureflection Darn this sounds good.
  3. Adding a bit of funk into the morning mix. “Booty” Mainstream/Solid Records Japan cd 598×602 70.7 KB Charles Kynard – Smiling Faces Sometimes Dave Hubbard – Family Affair Dave Hubbard – Respect Yourself Roy Haynes – Roy’s Tune Charles Williams – Willow Weep For Me Dave Hubbard – Spring Can Really Hang You Up The Most Blue Mitchell – Alone Again Naturally
  4. Miles in France – Miles Davis Quintet 1963/64: The Bootleg Series, Vol. 8 disc 5 Perhaps not the greatest sound but very listenable, and the music is . . . riveting, for me. This disc is with Wayne Shorter from October 1964. 200×200 7.78 KB
  5. Starting off a fairly warm morning–36 degrees–with a bit of Brazilian breeze, Eliane Elias “Dance of Time” Concord cd. Ms Elias is such a fine piano player. And this is a very modern recording, full and rich. I had a nice dinner last night with the older of my two brothers who is undergoing a crisis I have the experience to help him with–I admit it was nice to be the older brother giving advice and a listening ear.
  6. No commercial on this edition. And there are three seasonal songs, one Dexter alone, one as a medley to conclude the recording.
  7. Duke Ellington “Jazz Party (In Stereo)” Columbia Jazz Masterpieces LP This is the only stereo LP I have of this title, and though it doesn’t quite match the sonic majesty of the OG Mono LP I have, it does sound pretty darned good for an LP that is probably digitally sourced (and early at that). Such magnificent music and such a masterfully engineered album. One of these days I’ll seek an early pressing of the Stereo title to partner with my Mono copy.
  8. Dexter Gordon Quartet 'San Francisco '82" Hi Hat cd Dexter Gordon on tenor saxophone, Kirk Lightsey on piano, David Eubanks on bass, and Eddie Gladden on drums. Keystone Korner, December 1982 There are so many good live Dexter recordings. This is among them, good sound quality and Dexter is energetic.
  9. The unique voice and styling of Shiela Jordan is a great fit for this morning. This Sheila Jordan album was 'lost" from 1960 on and is really nice. The notes say: This music was found by two collectors on a test pressing recorded in 1960. The rhythm section is unconfirmed. Sheila Jordan “Comes Love: Lost Session 1960” Capri Records cd. Possibly only 500 made?
  10. (Antonio Carlos Jobim) Nova Banda “Família Jobim” This is beautiful music. I appreciate these final Jobim albums more and more. 500×500 65.1 KB This is a differently sequenced version than: 300×300 12 KB
  11. Yes, I'd kvetch too if it made some sort of difference. I had a little hurdle with them years ago and haven't gone back to the site except once a year or so.
  12. Cosey was great . . . but I was always fascinated by the great supportive playing by Reggie Lucas. Wow!
  13. Grateful Dead “Dave’s Picks Vol. 46: Hollywood Palladium, Los Angeles, CA 9/9/72” disc 2 1972, one fine year for the Dead.
  14. 1m Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers “Meet You At the Jazz Corner of the World Vol. 2” 24 bit by RVG Blue Note Japan cd Just compared it to the US version. Sounds better.
  15. Toni Lee Scott “Vol. Lonely” Ava/Muzak Records Japan cd 1961 Bass – Red Callender, Wilfred Middlebrooks Drums – Jackie Mills Guitar – Howard Roberts Piano – Don Abney, Gerald Wiggins
  16. Starting off with some big band comfort food, Count Basie in Paris 1960. 300×295 10.5 KB Count Basie and his Orchestra “En Concert Avec Europe1” 2 cd set, disc 1
  17. http://play-album.com/images/218/monday-michiru-premiumix.jpg
  18. Dave Holland “Extended Play: Live at Birdland” ECM 2 cd set, disc 1 150×147 1.97 KB Chris Potter – soprano, alto and tenor saxophones Robin Eubanks – trombone Steve Nelson – vibraphone, marimba Billy Kilson – drums Dave Holland – double-bass Recorded November 2001
  19. Santana “Borboletta” Columbia LP A great album and the OG LP sounds great. A gorgeous cover to see and hold in your hands as well.
  20. This was mislaid for a while and I found it under my listening chair! A funky remake of a classic Chico Barque album with amazing trombone! By the daughter of Joyce and Nelson Angelo, quite a family background. Clara Moreno Samba Esquema Novo “De Novo” 300×300 15.5 KB
  21. Brother Jack McDuff “Moon Rappin’” Blue Note Japan 85th Anniversary UHQCD A fun album.
  22. Bob Dylan “The Bootleg Series Vol. 17: Fragments – Time Out of Mind Sessions (1996–1997)” This is a fascinating box set. I’m listening to the remix of “Time Out of Mind” in this set at the moment. This opinion runs contrary to most that I read but I prefer the original mix. . . though I can like this one as an alternate window into the music. The original has a magic that drew me in and revived interest in Dylan’s music for me though, it will always live in my heart as a masterwork.
  23. Orrin Evans “The Magic of Now” Smoke Sessions cd. Orrin with Immanuel Wilkins. A great listen.
  24. 500×500 21.4 KB Ike Quebec “Easy Living” Blue Note Japan cd Ike was very important to the Blue Note label. Had he lived longer we would have had more interesting work from him as a leader, sideman and A&R man. . . but then we would have not had the same Duke Pearson albums we did or the same albums he arranged and co-produced. He had such a great sound. Here he has great players with him. Ike Quebec - tenor saxophone Bennie Green - trombone (tracks 1–5) Stanley Turrentine - tenor saxophone (tracks 1–5) Sonny Clark - piano Milt Hinton - bass Art Blakey - drums
