I think Universal actually manufactured the Mosaic discs and shipped them to Mosaic for boxing. They're just reusing the masters which they retained.

If you look at their catalog listed on their website, you'll see titles licensed from WEA, Sony, and Universal. Interesting.

I find the small credits on the back interesting. "Music On CD" has licensed this from Sony Music. www.musiconcd.eu. I wonder who they are.

Black Market (1976), Heavy Weather (1977), Mr. Gone (1978), 8:30 (1979), Night Passage (1980), and Weather Report (1982) are packaged in Clamshell Box with wallets. Each disc features reproduced front and back artwork. As detailed by liner notes author Richard Seidel, the box contains 12 bonus tracks, including all the cuts from the 2002 compilation Live and Unreleased that feature Pastorius, as well as material from the 1979 Havana Jam. Allen: I'm now on disc 23 of Turn Me Loose, and am impressed by how listenable the results are. I wonder if you could talk a little about your remastering philosophy. For example, what level do you consider optimal? Some suggest that the level should be as loud as possible without hitting 0 db (i.e., without going into the red). You remaster a little quieter than that, so I wonder if there's an optimal level you shoot for, or do you just rely on your ears to tell you whether a track sounds distorted or is too low?

This is the version I have: It's probably the most legit version, since it was released on Duke's record label. I like it; Dex does go off mike and is not miked great to begin with, but it's a good, solid date. It contains 7 tracks; not listed in Lord above is "There Will Never Be Another You."

I own All Things on vinyl, and two sides are pressed off-center. Now there's an aural experience.

I've owned the original CD box for a couple of decades now, and was always dissatisfied with the sound quality. It just sounds like layers of mush, very little clarity. I know Sony has had a reissue program of individual artists; does anyone know if the sound quality has improved?

I got a similar one recently: Do you like yours? I can't really say it makes my records sound better, but I love how it adds to the ritual of playing a record. In fact, I recently got a bag of those yellow 45 inserts, to allow me to use the clamp while I play 45's.

RIP. Another great one gone. I hope he was able to put out that last album for which he was raising money.
