  1. I read his prior book, The People And The Books, and enjoyed it.
  2. I think Universal actually manufactured the Mosaic discs and shipped them to Mosaic for boxing. They're just reusing the masters which they retained.
  3. If you look at their catalog listed on their website, you'll see titles licensed from WEA, Sony, and Universal. Interesting.
  4. I find the small credits on the back interesting. "Music On CD" has licensed this from Sony Music. www.musiconcd.eu. I wonder who they are.
  5. Release date February 26: The Columbia Albums 1976-1982 anthologizes the Jaco Pastorius era of Weather Report. Black Market (1976), Heavy Weather (1977), Mr. Gone (1978), 8:30 (1979), Night Passage (1980), and Weather Report (1982) are packaged in Clamshell Box with wallets. Each disc features reproduced front and back artwork. As detailed by liner notes author Richard Seidel, the box contains 12 bonus tracks, including all the cuts from the 2002 compilation Live and Unreleased that feature Pastorius, as well as material from the 1979 Havana Jam. The 20-page booklet also features full track-by-track credits and session data.
  6. Release date April 15:
  7. Release date March 26: On this night the good doctor took the stage with an expanded line-up featuring Jonathan Kreisberg on guitar, Johnathan Blake on drums, John Ellis on tenor saxophone, Jason Marshall on baritone saxophone, Sean Jones on trumpet, and Robin Eubanks on trombone with special guest vocalist Alicia Olatuja on "Pilgrimage." Two additional studio tracks open and close the album, presenting the unique collaboration between Doc & Iggy Pop including a sublime cover of Donovan's 1966 hit "Sunshine Superman."
  8. If he were appearing on Anderson Cooper's show, I presume he'd write "Excited to talk to Anderson Cooper."
  9. Alex Berenson's Twitter feed is a good source of alternative views about COVID, the vaccines, and so much more. I wish he wouldn't write in such a jokey style, but he's pointing out many important things. It can be found at https://twitter.com/AlexBerenson Anecdotal but interesting: https://twitter.com/AlexBerenson/status/1350219637909311492?s=20
  10. Allen: I'm now on disc 23 of Turn Me Loose, and am impressed by how listenable the results are. I wonder if you could talk a little about your remastering philosophy. For example, what level do you consider optimal? Some suggest that the level should be as loud as possible without hitting 0 db (i.e., without going into the red). You remaster a little quieter than that, so I wonder if there's an optimal level you shoot for, or do you just rely on your ears to tell you whether a track sounds distorted or is too low?
  11. Great news, CJ. Glad to see your spirit's intact.

    Dexter Gordon

This is the version I have: It's probably the most legit version, since it was released on Duke's record label. I like it; Dex does go off mike and is not miked great to begin with, but it's a good, solid date. It contains 7 tracks; not listed in Lord above is "There Will Never Be Another You."
  13. Jackie talks about it a little here: http://bensidran.com/conversation/talking-jazz-jackie-mclean
  14. Looks like Volume 2 will be released in Japan on February 17: https://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/CDSOL-46923
  15. Looks like this is getting a reissue in Japan. Release date March 24: https://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/YZMS-1057 This is from Google Translate: Live at the Left Bank Jazz Society, Baltimore 1968 / Wynton Kelly In commemoration of his 90th birthday and 40th anniversary of his death, the precious live of his last years is revived. Wynton Kelly was a regular artist at the Left Bank Jazz Society, a jazz fan group in Baltimore, Maryland. In 1967, he left a co-star with Joe Henderson and Hank Mobley, but in this work of 1968, George Coleman was invited as a saxophonist, and the world full of hard bop's charm is further developed. I will. Perhaps it's a live performance, and the fact that each song is played with plenty of time is a feature not found in the studio recordings of Riverside and Verve. This release commemorates the 90th anniversary of Kelly's birth and the 40th anniversary of his death. It looks like it's a reissue of this session: George Coleman, tenor sax; Wynton Kelly, piano; Ron McClure, bass; Jimmy Cobb, drums. "The Left Bank Jazz Society", "Famous Ballroom", Baltimore, MD, September 22, 1968 Piano Interlude Vee-Jay VJS 3071 On A Clear Day - Piano Interlude and On The Trail - Theme - same session. 16. I hope your Dad gets better.
  17. Looks like it's a test pressing from one of these two relatively recent box sets:
  18. I own All Things on vinyl, and two sides are pressed off-center. Now there's an aural experience.
  19. I've owned the original CD box for a couple of decades now, and was always dissatisfied with the sound quality. It just sounds like layers of mush, very little clarity. I know Sony has had a reissue program of individual artists; does anyone know if the sound quality has improved?
  20. Good to hear good news; keep it up.
  21. Another chance to recommend this excellent, unusual album. Mance plays Dizzy's compositions with a group consisting of flute, guitar, bass and drums - no trumpet in sight. It really works. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Here_'Tis_(Junior_Mance_album)
  22. I got a similar one recently: Do you like yours? I can't really say it makes my records sound better, but I love how it adds to the ritual of playing a record. In fact, I recently got a bag of those yellow 45 inserts, to allow me to use the clamp while I play 45's.
  23. RIP. Another great one gone. I hope he was able to put out that last album for which he was raising money.
  24. Now he has time to join the Organissimo board!
