  2. Release date July 28:
  3. Thanks, Ptah - it's good to know.
  4. In an interesting development, eMusic has begun including digital booklets. For example, see: https://www.emusic.com/album/77499983/Jason-Moran/Refraction---Breakin-Glass
  5. Alan Holdsworth, The Man Who Changed Guitar Forever, $6.99 on eMusic.
  6. A nice little reminiscence from a local paper: http://jhvonline.com/harry-sheppard-a-jazz-lion-in-winter-p22855-152.htm
  7. Hope you get a better response than I'm currently getting.
  8. Up. If you want to hear some good jazz, click on the BFT link: http://thomkeith.net/index.php/blindfold-tests/
  9. Yeah, I haven't seen a lot of movement lately. What can I do to offer some intrigue, or to sex it up a little? #1, 3, 4, 6, 9 and 12 have been identified; well done, gents! I think you'll never know about #2. This was an atypical venue for the singer of #5. Ernest Ranglin was ID'd as one of the guitarists on #7, but the other 2? Hmmm... #8 is just chillin.' As for #10, this was definitely an atypical outing for the leader (though perhaps straight-ahead jazz just didn't pay as much as his usual gig). As for #11, ask Chuck Nessa! #13 is one of those Detroit guys, #14 had a short career (or a career cut short), #15...well, someone here knew who that was! And the pianist on #16 perhaps shouldn't quit his day job.
  10. They told me that when I placed the order, their system showed the Lester/Basie in stock, and it was - but it didn't show that they were out of boxes (the ones that hold the CDs, booklet, tray), and that's what they've been waiting for to come in.
  11. Finally got a shipping notice for the Lester/Basie set.
  12. Do you have a link?
  13. #3: Correct! #10: Not Higgins.
  14. This is my experience as well. I've found that a disc that won't rip on one computer's drive will rip on another. A disc that won't play on my stereo's CD player will play on my computer's. I have not found a consistent reason why, but no matter as long as I can accomplish my ends. Some Verve discs with play times approaching 80 minutes will skip for the last 2 - 3 minutes. If it skips on my stereo but plays on my computer, I make an exact copy of the disc using Roxio Toast, and the copy will play on my stereo (!). If it skips on my computer but plays on my stereo, I make a copy on the stereo using a CD recorder, and the copy will play on my computer.
  15. #4: Correct! #10: Not an outtake. #11: Not Tucker.
  16. Happy birthday, Scott.
  17. #1 is correct. #2 is not Fischer. It's interesting you guessed that, though, because he had many releases on the same label. Loved your answers, btw. I burst out laughing a few times. #1: It is Bechet. Larry ID'd it earlier. #6: Hot Ptah ID'd it earlier. Some of the compression may have been due to their trying to squeeze almost 30 minutes per LP side. #8: Not any of the guys you mentioned, but I know what you mean. This is the most recent of the tracks on this BFT, and these players run in those circles. I'm actually not in love with this type of jazz, but I do like this track. #9: You are correct. #10: Not Stanley, not Willis. #11: Not Buddy Tate, but a contemporary of his. Not Gene Harris - a much earlier generation. #12: You got it. #13: Not Bill Evans. #15: A contemporary of Cannonball's, not white.
  18. John Fahey, Your Past Comes Back To Haunt You: The Fonotone Years [1958-1965]: $7.49 on eMusic. Miles Davis in Stockholm 1960 Complete, $6.49, also on eMusic.
  19. #2 is a standard. Not Lacy. #3 IS led by Herbie Mann. Congratulations! #8 is not Lake nor Spaulding. Much more recent vintage. #9: Correct! A lot of love shown here recently on Blythe's passing, and I wanted to showcase his gutbucket side. #10 is not Morgan. The answer might surprise you, as might the leader (who is not the trumpeter).
  20. Not Ellington, but a similar vintage.

Could it be that you've maxed out on the # of devices? See this for more info: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT204074 Otherwise, if you can't load music onto any of your devices, perhaps iTunes or your computer is not working properly. Are you up-to-date on your iTunes and macOS updates?
  23. Naming names is fine. It is J.J. on trombone. The Hampton track is not JATP; it's something I discovered recently. There are other amazing names on the track, so I'll see if others (or you) can identify them before I reveal. Ranglin really is an unsung hero. He's a little like Zelig - he pops up in unexpected places.
  24. Glad you're enjoying it! 1: Not Paul Whiteman. 3: Not Mingus, not Richardson. 7: If E.R. is Ernest Ranglin, you are correct! He is not the leader (perhaps co-leader). 12. Wow, you nailed that - I thought it would be one of the more obscure selections.
