  1. Courtesy of a link on Mosaic's home page. Good think piece, but it obviously discounts all the people who've studied/played music yet have not become successes in other fields. NY Times
  2. I'm exploring it now. So far, seems like a smooth experience. One program that I used often, an Epson scanning software, no longer works under Mavericks. **sigh**
  3. When I saw Miles in concert in 1975, I was surprised to see him walk onstage in a suit and tie. The suit might have been a 3-piece suit.
  4. The last time I looked into speaker wire was a good 15 - 20 years ago, but back in the day, Audioquest was considered a good quality, less expensive speaker wire. Look into this: Amazon.
  5. I'm in. This seems like fun.
  6. Or is it simply that Blue Note's new owner isn't concerned about past "rejected" decisions?
  7. Just found a used copy of this in a Half Price Books for $1. This concert was the day of my high school graduation; I stepped out of the party my parents threw to attend it.
  8. Also, the flip side of the 45 of Gotta Serve Somebody was Trouble In Mind...don't think that's been reissued anywhere. There was also a song he did on a Chabad telethon, backed by TP & The Heartbreakers: "Thank God." Very good song, but never saw it on record.
  9. Don't underestimate how much of this could be due to professional jealousy.
  10. I still have not torrented (for lack of a better word). I'm concerned about viruses, but also about the ethics of torrenting (floabw). As I understand it, the torrent service can use the computing power of your computer for their purposes, and I don't want to give these unknown people that ability.
  11. Almost everything... (released on MCA) And there are a few on Folkways, etc...but yes, 99% of so were for Columbia/Sony.
  12. If we could get this down to a protocol, I'd be cool with it.
  13. Any thoughts on this box? I don't have much Byas.
  14. So if you post the Google page, the Organissimo member will be able to read it, but if you post a link to the actual WSJ page, then they cannot?
  15. Review in the Wall St Journal. Please let me know if it cannot be read in its entirety: WSJ
  16. I long ago lost the allure of radio. I lived in various places in NYC where the radio experience was frequently punctuated by static. Even in the car, we now listen to Sirius/XM. Radio, at least aimed at adults, does need to rethink what it needs to do to survive. Attractive on-air personalities are one, fewer commercials are another.
  17. OK, thanks. That audio was there when I first read the article. From the posting of the Twitter link, it sounded like he had added an additional audio, perhaps recorded at Bailey's home, but I misunderstood. The audio is interesting. It sounds like Bailey wasn't as much interested in forward propulsion as Elvin was; Bailey's not pushing Trane as much as providing decoration around what Trane is playing. Bailey would have been a nice match for Monk, though.
  18. I don't see a link to that audio on the Iverson page.
  19. So you didn't throw them out either, didja?
  20. I wonder when they'll start coming out with the movies and TV shows: Eat The Document, Renaldo and Clara, Hard Rain, the 30th Anniversary Concert.
  21. I have no use for them. I don't read Japanese. They make it difficult to file away the CD. They crease easily. Yet before I throw one away, I feel a sharp pang of regret. Please advise.
  22. Nothing of Dylan's is owned by Universal, AFAIK.
  23. Sorta, but not exactly..."International Jazz Emporium - Bethlehem Records - Distibuted by Caytronics - A Cayre Industries Company"...which was the Cayre Brothers who did found Salsoul, but who had already been involved in the record business prior to so doing. http://www.discogs.com/label/Caytronics http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salsoul_Records http://hem.bredband.net/funkyflyy/salsoul/story.html http://businessprofiles.com/details/cayre-industries-inc/NY-382527 That "International Jazz Emporium" is what stands out to me...what kind of a shell was that? I just got the Japanese release of This Time The Drum's On Me. The disc states "All tracks licensed courtesy of VMG Salsoul LLC, a Division of Verse Music Group."
  24. RIP. Thanks for all the great music.
