  1. A few recent ones: ANTHONY BRAXTON CREATIVE ORCH. 1978 OOP ($41, reserve not met) Anthony Braxton/George Lewis Donaueschingen CD Hat Hut ($40) Creative Orchestra (Koln) 1978 - Anthony Braxton (CD... ($32) VIENNA ART ORCHESTRA ERIK SATIE HAT HUT CD ($37) JOHN ZORN NEWS FOR LULU HAT HUT CD ($27, argentinian seller)
  2. Most OOP Hathut CDs by well known avantgarde artists such as Cecil Taylor or Anthony Braxton go for $30 and more on Ebay. With the hatOLOGY reissues going OOP fast, the same might happen.
  3. Where have you ordered them, Couw? I suppose these are european made CDs also available here? So far I've only found this austrian store: http://www.bocksmusicshop.at/ I'm interested in the Hans Koller and "Avantgarde" discs mainly. For those who don't know the music, check the 2 min sound clips: http://www.sonarkollektiv.de/releases/SK019CD/
  4. I guess that the objective of warning about "unauthorized copying" is to make the buyers think that copying is forbidden altogether, although most copyright laws allow for limited copying for private purposes (which means it is authorized by the law).
  5. Yes, I think that being able to listen to CDs before buying them is very important, especially with music that cannot be evaluated with 30 second clips or by just listening to one track at a CD store. Naxos has been offering the possibility to listen to complete CDs on their website. The quality of the sound is good enough to be able to evaluate the music, but not good enough to use this feature as a CD replacement (AM radio quality). The success of this service has been so big that Naxos had to intruduce a low subscription fee ($15/year). It would be great if there was a sort of subscription service for all labels, that instead or in addition to selling "high quality" downloads at $1/track, gives the possibility to just listen to the entire music in low quality. It would make people want to discover more unknown music instead of sticking to what they already know or what they hear on the radio or see on MTV. It would be good for jazz especially.
  6. how bad will it get? On US DVDs there is a 10 second FBI warning message before the program starts. They could do a FBI jingle for music CDs
  7. I have upgraded my hifi set last summer (cost me $10.000) after using the same good $3000 set for the last 10 years. It has increased my listening pleasure enormously. It sounds so realistic especially with small jazz bands that I have the impression of a daily private concert in my living room. But I only spent this much because I could do it without having to restrict my music purchases. However, I have spent less on CDs lately because I´m now rediscovering my complete music collection (about 2000 CDs). I agree that it is stupid to put sound quality above the music and to have an expensive hifi sytem with only a limited music collection. But I also think that many collectors spend too much on music purchases, because they buy more CDs than they can listen too (discs are listened to once and then shelved away). By reducing the money spend on CDs and using it to have a better hifi system one can actually improve the music life. Less collecting, more enjoying.
  8. Isn't it more about the musicians (Hubbard, Mogie, Spaulding, mainly, also LaRoca), than the label? What I was trying to say is that this average session (despite the great names) would be passed over by most jazz fans if it weren´t a Blue Note album. I discovered the second Volume on a used LP some 15 years ago. There were noticable and audible marks on the passage where the Big Black solo ends. The previuous owner probably skipped that tedious conga solo every time he listened to the record. Blue Note should have released this CD with index points, so the Big Black solo could be skipped more easily
  9. I think that we wouldn't even discuss this session if it were not a Blue Note recording but only an obscure live set released on Fresh Sound, Storyville or any othe non-cult jazz label.
  10. With a bonus DVD containing a 27 minute Rudy Van Gelder interview. Blue Note could just have published this interview in written form on their website, together with a few photos. Which Blue Note collector will buy this sampler just for the interview?
  11. Tom@BlueNote has just replied to some questions. http://forums.allaboutjazz.com/showthread....92&page=2&pp=20
  12. I can drink caffeine and sleep at any time of the day I drink 3 (sometimes 4) cups of coffee a day and it helps me wake up in the morning and not to fall asleep when I want or need to stay up late. But I could go to bed immediately after drinking coffee and sleep without a problem.
  13. An interesting comment on All Music Guide's Response to Redesign Complaints (waxy.org)
  14. I finally had time to watch the entire DVD. Technically, it is a mixed bag. The sound is in fact mono, although very good. The most important flaw is that during some solos there seem to have been problems with the film or something had to be edited out, because picture stills are shown from the soloist while the sound continous normally. Musically, this is one of Waldron's greatest groups, and this DVD is an excellent complement to the Seagulls at Christiansund CD. The last track is a Waldron solo filmed in black and white in his appartment (it seems). I have also ordered the Konitz and David Murray DVDs from the same series. I bet these discs will be OOP soon.
  15. Please post in that thread, it does make things easier
  16. I would pay up to $15/year for their service, as I have used it a lot during the last years. But not for a website layout which is worse than the old one. Someone from AMG has reacted to the critcisms, his comments were also posted on Jazzcorner: http://jazzcornertalk.com/speakeasy/showthread.php?t=6526
  17. Maybe this information is now on the "Credits" page, which is only accessible for registered members. I have registered, but not yet received my password email.
  18. Thanks Kevin These are great albums. But I already have many of them in good sounding editions (Basra JRVG, Night in Tunesia MFSL, True Blue TOCJ, Hancock box set). I'm looking forward to Night dreamer and Like someone in love
  19. No more. When using this URL one is now redirected to the new interface.
  20. They are still available here. I like their analogue sound http://www.kellogg.de/produkte/pages/ricecrispies.html
  21. When you love someone, when you love someone It feels so right, so warm and true I need to know if you feel it too http://www.lyricsfreak.com/f/foreigner/54898.html

  23. Penguin Books will like the new design
  24. The info on the album page is now devided into subpages instead of having everything (review, tracklist, credits) on one page. To be able to access the credits, one needs to be registered (which is currently still free) So it's not only new additional content or features that are only for members.
