Many Arista titles from the 70's have never been reissued on CD. Some of them are among the best recordings of his carreer 1974 New York, Fall 1974 1975 Five Pieces (1975) 1975 The Montreux/Berlin Concerts 1976 Duets (1976) 1978 For Four Orchestras 1978 Alto Saxophone Improvisations (1979) 1978 NW5-9M4: For Trio 1980 For Two Pianos Anthony Braxton AMG entry

Chrome, this article is already discussed here: Trumpeting Mediocrity - Was Wynton Marsalis ever that good?

My latest Mosaic order was the Gracham Moncur Select, which I had preordered. Maybe I'll get the Liebman/Beirach Select, but currently I'm under a self-imposed CD buying moratorium. I still have the Moncur CD1 with the wrong first track (and the corrected one of course). When will this become a $100 collector's item? Only then would I buy the Shorter/Morgan set, which I've been considering for years (don't need all those alternates).

I think it would be better to post only the title and the introductory paragraph of an article and then the link to the complete article. That will cause no legal and no bandwith problem. Some newspaper sites such as the NY and LA Times require a (free) registration, so it's not so convenient to post only a link. But I´m sure that most people who read the Politics forum are registered at the NY Times. Quotes are allowed by copyright law, but an entire article is more than a quote. In Europe, someone who compiles a press review with complete newspaper articles for use within a company or a school doesn't need to ask for permission but has to pay a fee to the organisation that represents the copyright interests of newspapers.

The two ECM recordings by Julian Priester (Love, Love / Polarization) are great stuff indeed. In the Herbie Hancock Mwandishi vein. I found both LPs in mint condition recently.

I've decided to stop buying CDs for at least a few weeks (except some rare finds on Ebay or unexpected bargains or releases). While reorganising my collection (ca 1000 jazz and 500 classical CDs) I've discovered some great stuff I have to listen to again I listen to 3-4 CDs per day on average, so going through my entire collection would take some time. I try to stay a jazz listener, and not become an obsessive collector

In fact they could simply make a direct copy from a regular CD from their archives. All the titles that are available for order at "iclassics on demand" are albums that have been released on CD before, so there is no need to do anything with the mastertapes. CD copies can be done on every decent office PC. The only thing to organize is the mail-order, which many labels already do for regular CDs.
-
Check the new iClassics on demand site. iClassics is the web service of Universal classics. http://www.iclassicsondemand.com This currently includes only a small fraction of their back catalogue (mainly digital recordings from the 80's and 90's), but the concept is great, and the price is acceptable ($10 for a CD-R without artwork). It would be even more interesting for jazz labels whose recordings are much more unique than a certain recording of a classical work that is available in other interpretations.

Seems that the Blue Note server can't handle the Norah craze

Here is their list of currently available LPs: http://www.blacksaint.com/pagine%20web/catalogs.htm I don't know if the older titles (analog recordings) are sourced from digital tapes, but unfortunately that's the case of most new LP pressings today. The remastering is done for both the CD and LP reissues. Only audiophile companies would do seperate digital and analog transfers. It doesn't mean that the sound must inevitably be worse though.

Blue Note to introduce copy-protected discs
Claude replied to Swinging Swede's topic in Miscellaneous Music
The music industry could adopt the SCO (the software maker, not the guitarist ) business model: stop making products and try to catch and sue intellectual property pirates. This hasn't yet proven to be successful though. SCO's Linux Fight -
Blue Note to introduce copy-protected discs
Claude replied to Swinging Swede's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Maybe there are many entertainment company employees in New York, but for the rest of the world this is hardly relevant. I have visited many second hand stores in European capitals, but have never seen one which really offered a selection of music which could compete with regular CD stores. I have rarely seen "not for sale" CDs in second hand stores here. Great bargains and OOP CDs can be found there, but it will never endanger sales of new CDs. -
NOW FIXED -- Monitor/Display problems on a PC
Claude replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Yes, it could be that the drivers suddenly could not be loaded anymore. Check also the Device manager (Control panel --> System --> Device manager) if there are alerts next to the display card and monitor entries. -
NOW FIXED -- Monitor/Display problems on a PC
Claude replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I case just the display settings were changed, you can reset it this way: Start --> Seetings --> Control Panel --> Display --> Settings --> Adapter --> List all modes (It could be a little different depending on the video card driver) You monitor seems to be a 19" model, so the normal resolution would be 1280x1024 or 1152x864 (depending on your preference), true color (32bit), 85Hz refresh rate at least. Before you use the Windows Me System restore (which is not very reliable), be sure that it has regularly saved your system and contains a recent system state. -
Everything is normal again, the BNBB still closed

Blue Note to introduce copy-protected discs
Claude replied to Swinging Swede's topic in Miscellaneous Music
The current protection schemes are so weak that any user who wants to crack it will be able to do it with the right tools and some information from the internet. The protected Norah CD I tried could be copied from my CD burner drive without any such cracking method. Apparently the copyprotection doesn't work with all PC drives. So the music would find it's way into filesharing networks even if all CDs were protected. -

I've just seen the clip on german TV. It just looks too funny to be true. I can understand that some people thought it was a montage. -

Blue Note to introduce copy-protected discs
Claude replied to Swinging Swede's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I've heard from someone with good contacts to EMI Europe that they plan to abandon the Cactus Datashield copyprotection scheme, because it has way too many compatibility problems (the new Norah CD was unplayable on my DVD player). He didn't tell me if they were to replace it with a better protection scheme or abandon copyprotection alltogether.
