Like Alfred: CD Universe in the US Amazon.de and Zweitausendeins.de in Germany But I buy not only in the US to get non-copyprotected versions but also because of the lower prices an the current $ rate. Full price CDs generally cost 17-22 Euro in Europe, and only $14-18 in the US (12-15 Euro).
-
Another point against seperate DACs is that in the price range up to $3000 they cost as much as complete CD players of the same level. So the argument that older CD players can be upgraded with a DAC at a lower cost isn't true most of the time. An obvious advantage of external DACs is that several digital sources can be connected, for example also a DVD player or a PC soundcard.

Congatulations. Best wishes to you Jim and your two Boogaloo sisters Soon you will face competition in the family:

I have three computers at home, an old desktop PC working as an internet gateway, a desktop PC and a laptop connected with wireless LAN. They are between 3 and 6 years old (333, 1000, 400 MHz), but I've not felt the need to upgrade, except install bigger hard drives and more RAM, get flat LCD screens and a USB 2.0 card to connect my MP3 player. I have optimized the two desktop PCs to run as silently as possible, which is easier with slower CPUs. I use the workstation PC as a recording machine for radio broadcasts and LP-to-CD transfers. But for internet browsing and E-book reading, I mainly use the laptop. My next PC-related purchase will probably be a DVD burner and a video capture card, to transfer VHS tapes to DVD-R.

Thank you Yannisse, but I don't think that's an answer to my question. Even shipping 4CDs should not cost $23.5.

I just wanted to order two CDs from CD Universe I chose the "ship together" option (which was confirmed by the shipping date) and Airmail, which should normally give $10-12 shipping cost, and not $23.5 . The Help page still states the same international shipping rates as always. I emailed CD Universe, but they haven't replied yet. Does anyone have an explanation for this high shipping cost? Here are the other shipping options:

I also remember hearing Wynton duetting with the drummer on some of his later recordings. I don't remember which albums these were, it must have been in some longer suites.
-
The Don Cherry/Ed Blackwell duos (although Cherry also plays many other instruments on these recordings): MU (BYG 1969) El Corazon (ECM 1982)
-
Yes, I might get the Chet/Galaxy album (breaking my self-imposed CD purchase moratorium because of this unforeseen bargains ) Erik, I have the new "Ascensceur" version. It is the complete 26 track edition. I've commented on the sound in the other thread

Thanks tjobbe, I'll be in Munich next week and hope to be able to pass at the local 2001 store. The Universal CDs are the most interesting, as the ZYX remastering is very erratic.

Help the Nigerian astronaut return home
Claude replied to Claude's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Ï don't think this is a "serious" scam letter either. The funnyest thing is the "accumulated flight pay and interest amounting to almost $ 15,000,000". This must be inspired by a Futurama episode where Fry becomes rich by getting 1000 years interests on his tiny savings. @Weizen: Those letters are sent out in English only AFAIK. But the page speaks about two german victims of such Nigerian scams: In 2002, the welfare office of an unnamed city in Westfalen agreed to advance 285.000 DM (about $150.000) to an unemployed man who convinced them he was in a deal with a Nigerian bank. He would make a fortune and give 500.000 DM back to the city. Of course both the man and the city never got any money back. I have my doubt about this story though A german car dealer agreed on such a proposal and traveled to Nigeria, where he was kidnapped and freed only after paiement of a large sum. -
Yes it will! The booklet couldn't be changed (for contractual reasons), but the new boxes will include this special foldable reading device

In case this becomes an Organissimo habit: Some message boards I know have a special chat forum where threads can be filled with whatever nonsense and are purged after a few days.

Yep, I know. I just posted this separately to point out the "running very low status" of the set to those who still didn't pick it up... Could we have a special "Last chance" smilie for such announcements? Something like this:

I remember the conclusion of a discussion on the BNBB being that René is indeed Jackie's son, that he has not been adopted.

I´m currently watching the "Miles Davis Story" DVD for the first time, and I would definitely pay $100 for a DVD that contains the complete video tapes of those german, british and danish TV appearances from the 60's. Berlin 1973. Perfect TV quality, excellent camera work with close ups etc. Why can't we have this instead of a Montreux 20CD set?

From Top Quarks to the Blues Berkeley Lab physicists develop way to digitally restore and preserve audio recordings The 1995 discovery of the top quark and singer Marian Anderson's 1947 rendition of Nobody Knows the Trouble I?ve Seen may seem unrelated. But through an interagency agreement with the Library of Congress, the same technology used to study subatomic particles is helping to restore and preserve the sounds of yesteryear. "We developed a way to image the grooves in a recording that is similar to measuring tracks in a particle detector," says Carl Haber, a senior scientist in Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory's Physics Division who developed the technology along with fellow Physics Division scientist Vitaliy Fadeyev. Their work could ultimately enable the Library of Congress to digitize the thousands of blues, classical, Dixie, jazz, and spoken word recordings in its archives. The mass digitization of these aging discs and cylinders will both preserve the nation's musical history and make it accessible to a wide audience. complete article (check the audio samples)

I have the Ellington/Armstrong DAD. It sounds better than the old EMI CD from the late 80's I had, but it's not such a great recording technically.

If there are lefty guitars, why are there no lefty pianos?

mhhh, never heard that, sure you understood them correctly Schorlemorle (never heard that before either) comes from the Rhine region and is a mixture of wine and sparkling water. The name is supposed to sound like drunk germans saying "toujours l'amour" http://cronimus.free.fr/dico/s3.htm http://www.lire.fr/extrait.asp/idC=30258/idR=202/idG=8/idP=5 http://www.procolharum.com/tn+sq/gh_ba_touj.htm
