OK, I found it: http://cgi.ebay.com/Album-Lee-Konitz-live-...1QQcmdZViewItem $20 for DRM-protected 128kbit Windows Media files is really steep. The CD was cheaper.

Someone offering downloads on Ebay? For $20 ?

How do you know his name?

Shopping on the internet (UK customs) My recommendations: The trick with Ebay items is for the seller to declare them as "used CDs" and indicate a low but reasonable value ($5-10/CD), so not to be over the limit for which taxes are due. Of course the customs can always require the buyer to provide for proof of the value, such as a printout copy of the auction. But if the value indicated on the package is plausible they will not insist. Sometimes commercial operators charge an excessive service fee (20 Euro) for doing the customs formalities. Because they make money with the formalities, they will make sure the goods are declared. Better avoid them and ship with US postal air mail.

Seller and buyer are in the UK, so shipping will be less expensive than what Mosaic charges on overseas orders (at least $20 if I remember well). And there is no risk of having customs tax added.

Marcus, I'm glad you like the SACD. However, in my view the sound quality of the recording is not that good to benefit significantly from MFSL remastering and SACD treatment. For fans of the album, the limited edition SACD is a nice collector's item which offers the best sound on a digital format (by a small margin), but for most people the remastered midprice CD reissue (released in 1997 and 2002) will do. I have posted a review (mainly on the sound) on SA-CD.net: http://www.sa-cd.net/showreviews/1566#2888

I don't know about the major/minor key, but I consider these "dark sounding": Prokofiev's Second symphony (unlike his First). Scriabin's piano sonatas Mahler's 10th symphony (as completed by verious musicologists)

Another example of Jazz Door's piracy activities is their Miles Davis "Fat Time" CD, which contains the material from the official CBS/Sony "Miles! Miles! Miles!" 2CD set: http://www.plosin.com/milesAhead/Disco.asp...MilesMilesMiles http://www.plosin.com/milesAhead/Disco.aspx?id=FatTime

Is that the true Ebay name in your message? A user with that name existed, but is unregistered now. Any Ebay email can be spoofed, but it's hard to understand what the purpose of this one is.

The Aguilera/Hancock performance on the Ellen show can be viewed here: http://www.miss-aguilera.com/evideo.html (link posted on the AAJ forum) But don't expect a Herbie solo during the song ...

I've heard the same thing about Philips ... I think it is very difficult to generalize. A manufacturer can have products which are very reliable and others which often fail. My numerous Sony gadgets (3 CD players, one of them 20 years old, a DVD player, 2 PDAs, a cassette deck) have never let me down. Support quality also varies a lot according to the regional representative.

I got a new MP3 player yesterday. An iRiver H320 http://www.mobilityguru.com/2004/10/05/iriver/index.html http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1730994,00.asp The best thing about it, I upgraded from my previous H120 for free. I've had it for almost 2 years, when the stop button stopped working (mechanical failure). Luckily there was still a month warranty left, I sent it to the online retailer (www.hifi-regler.de), thinking it would be an easy repair. But iRiver thought it was simpler to sent me a replacement player, and as the H120 apparently was out of stock, they sent a H320, the later model which has a color display and more features.

That's how it's been most of the time over here too Claude; truly dreadful 'summer' weather. ← Strange - I thought it had been quite a good Summer in the UK? Maybe the South has had it better than the North (it usually does). I was up in York last week and, predictably, it rained. Always does when I visit. ← October here has been warmer than August so far. Sunny today, 18°

The Paris sessions master takes were also released on a 2CD set by the other rip-off label: http://www.disconforme.ad/pages2/definitiv...p?ref=DRCD11246 http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=6049884

The Proper set contains the Gigi Gryce Paris sessions from 1953 (only master takes), which are some of the best Brownie recordings in my view. The were released before as 3 individual CDs (many alternate takes) by Vogue and in the US by Fantasy. These CDs would be first choice if you are a collector. I think they are OOP now.

Can't get sound out of my computer speakers
Claude replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Right click on the speaker icon in the system tray and select "Open volume controls". Check if something is muted or the volume is turned down. And also check if the signal cable of the speakers is connected to the Line Out of the sound card. -
Disallowing taping & trading is financial suicide
Claude replied to johnagrandy's topic in Discography
I think this is a pretty silly statement. The whole point of IP is to put up obstacles to cheaper alternatives. Now how do you explain the three facts I have listed above, which show that even where no patents exist, drugs are not available to those who need them? The problem is that generics, which generally cost less than 10% of the original drug, are still to expensive for the countries most concerned by epidemics. Generics producers want to make profits too. The WTO Doha system makes it possible to grant compulsory licenses on patents (basically making the patent valueless in those countries), but it is not used. http://www.wto.org/english/tratop_e/trips_...if_import_e.htm -
Disallowing taping & trading is financial suicide
Claude replied to johnagrandy's topic in Discography
On the drug patents issue: Although it is easy to blame patents for the problems in fighting AIDS, it is very doubtful if patents are really an obstacle in providing drugs to poor countries: - Of the WHO essential drugs list, only 10% are patented - India did not protect drugs by patents until this year and India is the world's biggest generic drugs producer. However only 1% of India's HIV patients are being treated with appropriate drugs - The same is true for all the least developed countries. They are not obliged to protect drug patents according to WTO/TRIPs. But even cheap generics are much too expensive for the population. Since 1999, the problem of drug patents and access to medicines has been debated in the WTO, and a solution allowing generics companies to export cheap copies of nw drugs to poor cointries has been found. But so far this has had few results. http://www.wto.org/english/tratop_e/trips_...armpatent_e.htm The problem here is not intellectual property, it is money and knowledge. -
How is that live disc?

Will RVG continue the Blue Note series while doing remasters for Fantasy (the upcoming Prestige RVG series)? On the other hand, the sound of some titles of the last two Blue Note RVG batches makes me wonder if Rudy is still behind the controls for those remasters. As far as "Night dreamer" and "Fuego" are concerned (I haven't heard the other reissues), I almost could not hear a difference to the previous McMaster remasters. Anyway, it's good to see Blue Note albums back in print.

then order them from earlyrecords.com.

On Ebay: and a Promo set for $199 ...

For those who want to know which CDs are copyprotected and which are not: Amazon.com is clearly designating copy-protected CD as such, at least for the SonyBMG titles: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0009Y26O0

Is this about money? Does the Estate get more if Miles is mentionned as a producer?
