It's legit in Europe (50 year copyright protection) but illegal in the US (70 years).

The Mosaic sets have a handwitten number on the first page inside the booklet. So it's clear now that this is the Warner set that was released after the Mosaic set went OOP. The content is identical to the Mosaic, but the collector's value is low.

To be reissued soon ... http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=20141

At least it didn't pay off. Winning bid $0.30

Too many to list, but some ECMs come to my mind first: - Bennie Maupin - Jewel in the Lotus - Sam Rivers - Contrasts - Dave Liebman - Lookout farm and many MPS albums ...

Wow! I ordered the Mosaic Selects on 8/3 (option "surface mail" to Europe) and they arrived already today.

What speaks against the Mosaic set is - "Label: Warner Bros / Wea" - "Availability: Usually ships within 1 to 2 weeks", which means it is not in stock but has to be ordered from the wholesaler/label Unfortunately, with Amazon it is impossible to get more detailed information on their products, because people in the support dept only have the same information than on the website. The usual reply is "You can always order it, and if it's not what you expected, return it." Good luck

I like the title of this obscure CD: "The jazz masters - 100 years of Swing" - Cecil Taylor http://cgi.ebay.de/CD-Klavierspezialist-Ce...1QQcmdZViewItem

I've seen the version done for Spiegel (with the red Magazine logo) as well as another longbox set sold by Warner in the UK. The price is 60 Euro/£43. http://shop.spiegel.de/go/see!SPONpvs0-DukeEllington http://www.townsend-records.co.uk/product....332&pType=music The box on Amazon.com is either a US version or a european import (explaining the higher price). The indicated release date seems to be that of the Mosaic set, because the Warner set cam out later, in 2003. http://www.bbc.co.uk/music/jazz/reviews/el...n_reprise.shtml http://www.allaboutjazz.com/reviews/r0100_140.htm http://www.depanorama.net/cds/rsr.htm

The latest reincarnation of the Paris 1961 recordings is on two very cheap (10 Euro each) Laserlight/Delta 2CD sets. The mono sound is very good (french radio production). http://www.deltamusic.de/index.php?id=28&L...n=4006408361589 http://www.deltamusic.de/index.php?id=28&L...n=4006408361282 Selections from the sets are available on a single SACD (not worth it IMHO) http://www.deltamusic.de/index.php?id=28&L...n=4006408520191

As far as I know, the content of the discs and the liner notes are the same, but the packaging is different (check the two pictures on amazon.de). It is not a limited edition set. Here are the tracklists of both sets: Mosaic: http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&t...10:rose4j674waw Spiegel: http://www.amazon.de/exec/obidos/tg/stores...3048427-5509615

Thanks for the info, Brownie. I rarely listen to France Inter and would have missed it. Too bad Radio France choose their most popular station for the summer jazz broadcasts and not France Musiques, as the sound on France Inter is heavily compressed and distorted (like most pop stations). On the other hand this is certainly positive to get more jazz audience in France. I will tune in tomorrow for the John Zorn and Ravi Coltrane broadcasts. I saw John Zorn's Masada a month ago in Malta and their perfermance was incredible (but just an hour long).

Thanks Brownie. This german production, subtitled "The ideal concert" , was a mixed bag indeed. Especially the edited Miles track was strange. My favourite part was Mangelsdorff, although Brubeck, Monk and Cannonball were great too, but I had already seen that video footage before.

Hi Daniel, good to see you back! The new Shorter has been discussed here: Wayne Shorter "Beyond the Sound Barrier" - New Live Album Coming June 14?

A geek trick to fixing the "Looking for organissimo.net" hanger YOURSELF and see all the board pics again is to redirect the browser to the organissimo.org address, where the images are located. This can be done be adding a line to the hosts file on your computer (under Windows, Mac or Linux). On Windows XP, the file is located in the folder C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\ Open the file with Notepad (the user must have administrator rights to edit the file) and add the following line 64.182.46.28 www.organissimo.net Save the file and you are set.

I can't hear voices on that track, apart from Monk's moaning, which sounds very much in the background because the piano is closely miked.

I just have a couple of movies (most of my DVDs are concerts or music documentaries), and only one TV series: Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (BBC)

The franco-german TV station ARTE shows a 45 minute film next sunday 7 August at 7PM, which puts together live or TV studio recordings made in Germany in the 50s and 60s. The list of artists can be seen in the descriptive text below (in french). It includes Miles' second quintet. http://www.arte-tv.com/fr/art-musique/Un_2...RTE/935516.html

Hmm, this strategy could explain why a large portion of the recent SACD releases contains obscure music by unknown artists. http://www.sa-cd.net/recent (check the pop, jazz and instrumental titles)

Thanks Jim. So organissimo.net doesn't work for now. I thought somebody made an error whith the image URLs. Is there a technical advantage in having board and images on different domains?

Why no Space Shuttle discussion?
Claude replied to Man with the Golden Arm's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I support a space shuttle discussion -_- -
Just a minor problem with the board. Since today, my Opera browser displays "Looking up hostname www.organissimo.net" in the status bar when loading every page of the board. I checked the source of the pages, and indeed some picture links use organissimo.net (a domain which does not exist) instead of organissimo.org. For example http://www.organissimo.net/forum/style_images/1/atb_help.gif
