  1. You can also switch to Satellite mode and see Brownie sitting in his garden
  2. "Cellar Door Sessions 19 by Dav"? Is that a BDSM video? Shall I cancel it?
  3. Delta Music also has a 2CD set with the Miles/Stitt concert. The transfer on these CD is very good, and they're cheap. http://www.jpc.de/jpcng/jazz/detail/-/hnum...azz/rsk/hitlist
  4. Maybe the database service has become more intelligent, rounding off track times. What service is Realplayer using?
  5. Was that concert on the 20th or the 21th? The Miles discography says 21th: http://www.plosin.com/milesAhead/Sessions.aspx?s=600321 But the cover of the Delta Music 2CD reissue says 20th The 2CD set is available from jpc.de for 7 Euro. http://www.jpc.de/jpcng/jazz/detail/-/hnum...azz/rsk/hitlist

    Jazz DVDs

I second the recommendations for the jazz classics collection. The Miles/Trane/Gil TV appearance is a must. The recent DVD release that impressed me most was Miles Electric - A Different Kind of Blue, which is part a docementary, part the Isle of Wight 1970 concert. Great music (with Gary Bartz, Chick Corea, Keith Jarrett, Dave Holland and Jack DeJohnette) and superb picture and sound quality. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00069FKN...&v=glance&n=130
  7. Thanks! BTW, if you have not created an account and want some changes made to your entry, you can contact me, either through the board messaging or with the "contact admin" link next to the map.
  8. Hi, I created a map for the members of the organissimo forum. http://www.frappr.com/organissimo It's anonymous, no need to create an account or indicate your email address Just click on "Add yourself", fill in your forum nickname and location.
  9. I think at this point, when it's not clear if the CD drive is defective or Windows is messed up, the best thing would be to check if the drive works without Windows. For example by checking if the drive is recognized by the BIOS, by trying to boot from a bootable CD (for that the BIOS needs to be set up to boot from CD first) or a bootable floppy with CD drivers (like a Windows rescue floppy). Your first post made me believe that it was a problem with the CD drivers (messed up by the Gear software), but the fact that the device manager does not display the drives (with an error message) is unusual in that situation.
  10. Fake online biography created as 'joke'
  11. Marla, If the drive is not displayed in device manager, there really seems to be a hardware problem. Maybe someone can test the drive on another PC to make sure it is at fault (and not the IDE cable or the mainboard)
  12. 1) Go to Start --> settings --> control panel --> system --> hardware --> device manager and check if your CD drive is displayed, and if there is an error message about drivers 2) if that is the case, download and run the Gear driver removal software If after reboot the situation hasn't changed (check device manager again), I can guide you through other steps.
  13. Marla, you should try the Driver Remover from GEAR: http://www.gearsoftware.com/cfknowledgebas...m?articleid=295
  14. There is 99% chance that your drive is working well, but that the GEAR program messed up the drivers, so that Windows can't load them anymore and is unable to display the drive in Windows Explorer. That's why your "E" drive is missing. Check the Device manager, it will probably show the drive, but with an error message. It's a software problem. If you replaced the drive, it would't be recognized either, because all CD/DVD drives yuse the same built-in Windows driver. I usually fix these CD driver problems with the Feurio software (www.feurio.de), which does not install any drivers and has a nice system diagnosis function. But you will need some more advanced knowledge to know which drivers need to be deactivated so the the regular drivers are being loaded again.
  15. If cost is an issue, you should try the free software CDBurnerXP http://www.cdburnerxp.se
  16. Do you want to burn audio or data CDs? Feurio is only for audio CDs. If you want to free up disc space, you better move the MP3s to data discs (700MB per CD-R), since burning an audio CD from MP3s will only free up approximately 50-100MB per album, as the MP3s need to be uncompressed.
  17. On Windows PCs, if you deactivate the autorun feature for data CDs, which starts installation programs automatically, you're on the safe side (as long as you don't start the installation yourself by clicking on the exe file). You will have to install TweakUI to change that setting: http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/tweakui After you installed it, go to Start --> Settings --> Control panel --> TweakUI --> Paranoia and deactivate "play data CDs automatically". You can leave "play audio CDs automatically" on if you like, as this will not start any software from the CD but start the CD player installed on your PC when inserting an audio CD.
  18. There are quite frequent reports on Audio Asylum of users having problems with certain SACDs on certain players. Very often the replacement discs don't improve it, as it seems to be an incompatibility.
  19. Yes, I forgot to mention the sample rate (not to be confused with bitrate), which is the second number. The standard sample rate on CDs is 44.1kHz, and that's also the rate that MP3 players expect. Some users convert their CDs to MP3s with non-standard sample rate, to get a smaller file size (22kHz) or simply by error (48kHz, which is the standard sample rate for DVD sound). But this should be a rare exception, as the default sample rate proposed by CD-to-MP3 converters is 44. BTW, 16 or 32 kb/s bitrate is unrealistic, as the sound quality will be horrible.
  20. You should read the manual of the DVD player on the compatibility requirements. There are players which don't support certain bitrates, or mono files, or multisession CDs. Sometimes even the caracters used in folder and file names can cause problems.
  21. Is this real? That article was posted on December 2, it mentions December 27 as the release date, but the title of the article is Davis' 'Cellar Door' Finally Due Next Month. Does that imply another (minor) delay? http://billboard.com/bbcom/news/article_di...t_id=1001613693
  22. The only thing this function does is limit the choices of the user. Normally it is possible to add something by either editing the previous post or by writing a new post. With the current board function the first option is carried out even if the user wants to make a new post. Do we really have the problem of too many posts by the same users in the same thread within a certain time (= chatting) that make this function necessary?
  23. And the movie you chose as your signature pic (Solaris) is one of my favourites, together with Tarkovski's best (IMHO) movie "Stalker". http://www.sensesofcinema.com/contents/dir.../tarkovsky.html
  24. There was a PC and Playstation game called "Driver" which is inspired by the Bullit scene. I'm not a gamer, but this was addictive. http://www.atari.com/us/games/driver/pc
  25. BTW, has anyone heard Belden's Turandot adaptation, which had to be withdrawn for legal reasons?
