  1. Hard to explain. It starts out kind of surf-y, but veers off in other directions later on. You might want to look for some Mike Baggetta online to get a sense of what kind of guitar player he is. I saw him with his other trio w/Watt in "mssv" last year. Kind of astounding.

We must have been close to each other! I think she was playing, but not singing. But that's just a guess.

    Annette Peacock

I saw her perform (I think) at Big Ears last year. REALLY looked forward to seeing her, especially since she rarely does live shows. This was the oddest show I've ever seen. Everyone was given strict instructions not to take pix/videos before the show. The stage was very dark with only spotlights from the sides of the stage. She walked on stage and sat down at the piano (the only thing on stage) and began playing. It all sounded very "Annette Peacock" and her voice sounded great, but as the show went on my friend and I started wondering if she was actually playing and singing. Her face was nearly hidden in darkness, and we were thinking that her voice sounded "too good" for her age which would be 80-ish - but we let that go. After about an hour of music she suddenly got up from the bench and walked off ... with the voice and music continuing for a minute or two after she left the stage. Was the show pre-recorded? Maybe just her voice pre-recorded? She appeared to actually be playing piano and some small electronics. Who knows???
  5. Jackie Venson "Love Transends" A FIERCE guitar player. Check her out!
  6. And Zorn doesn't even like playing in "large venues." I remember reading about that last year. BE had to push him to play at the Bijou.
  7. You guys are WAY ahead of me. I just took a quick look at the schedule. Saturday looks like there will be LOTS of conflicts and tough decisions.
  8. One of my favorite Mosaics. A real eye-opener for me!
  9. According to Discogs, it was released on CD in Japan in 2005 https://www.discogs.com/release/8097611-The-Tony-Williams-Lifetime-The-Old-Bums-Rush
  10. I like Old Bum's Rush, too. Tequila has some great vocals!
  11. I saw the 2nd show. Pretty interesting - kind of like Trane/Rollins/Ayler, but with a rock band.
  12. I have that. It is a good compilation.
  13. Earl McIntyre was introduced that night as the only musician in the band who played with Mingus. I can't give you any more information than that, though. I've seen various incarnations of the Mingus Big Band (mostly when Sue was alive and running the organization), but they were almost always engaged and put on a good show.
