Templejazz, for some more Joe Farrell, you should check out the first two Return To Forever albums. That was where I discovered him. Also his first CTI album "Joe Farrell Quartet" is a minor classic in my view. For those who are checking out The Band, you should definitely have "Rock of Ages" - the live album. It's a great recording. The new-ish re-release has a second disk of additional music including a few tunes with Dylan. EMusic has opened up a huge world of stuff for me. It's such a great resource of music to explore without the committment of spending $15 on a CD. Some of the artists that I have been able to really get into as a result are: Booker Ervin, Sonny Criss, Eric Kloss, Curtis Counce, Phineas Newborn, Jr., Joe Henderson (the Milestone years), early Pat Martino, the great Wes Montgomery sessions on Riverside, Tadd Dameron, Jimmy Heath, Blue Mitchell..........whew.....I could go on and on.

Although, Jad, there was no shortage of power chords at that show the other night.

Any fans out there? Last night I saw her at a small club here in SF (tonight she plays The Fillmore). What a great show! She poured it on for well over 2 hours and the crowd left exhausted. I've always liked her, but this is only the third time I've seen her in concert and a great treat to see the show in a small venue. She doesn't seem to have lost a beat. The band was as tight as ever, including "lifers" Jay Dee Daugherty (who I went to high school with, actually) on drums and Lenny "LENNY!" Kaye on guitar. She performed stuff covering the full gamut of her career - from early tunes like "Free Money" and "Ask The Angels" to more recent songs like "1959" and "Summer Cannibals". A nice touch was the lead in to "Rock & Roll Nigger" which is called "Babelogue" on record, but she read "Spell" from Allen Ginsberg's "Howl" in appreciation of City Lights books.

Awesome - from the first time I heard it.

I was about to post this one myself. Pretty outrageous. Especially since an Andrew Hill just recently sold for less than $200, which I thought was very reasonable.

On my first time through tonight. My first revelation/highlight is "Neo" in the Friday Night set. This is just killer - and the band is rock solid here. Reminds me of Tolliver's "Live at Slugs", recorded 10 years later.

Nice avatar, Bev. I just realized what it is - "L&L".

The Chameleons U.K. had some good albums in the 80's, recently regrouped and put out a new album which may actually be one of their best. I downloaded "Why Call It Anything?" from EMusic and wasn't expecting much, but it's actually a great album. One more: Anyone like The Cult? They are certainly bombastic, but for "balls-to-the-wall" rock, there's something there.

Well.........there ya go. Two threads in the "Mosaic & Other Box Sets" Forum. Who'd 'a' thunk it?

Lon - That's what I thought, too, but couldn't find it. BTW, Amazon has it for $35.99 - no tax or shipping.

This isn't really a "Reissue" because there is so much new and complete stuff. I hope it's OK to run this topic here. B) Just ordered the 4-disk set yesterday from Amazon. I've been reading great things on the other boards, so I can't wait until it shows up. I've had the 2 LP set forever and always thought it was classic music, so hearing it remastered and solos re-inserted should be a revelation.

Actually, I thought the 2nd Stone Roses album was pretty good, too. It had some Yardbirds overtones that I liked.

Just listened to the "Illinois Concert" for the first time last night. Mighty impressive. I'm looking forward to giving it several more spins!

I like the organization. They could have left the old page as a home page to click through or something, but that gets old......fast. This works - and as far as getting the message across quickly to newbies, I'm sure it serves its purpose. I won't be losing any sleep over it. THAT'S for sure.

Foo Fighters tonite in Denver @ The Fillmore
BFrank replied to Parkertown's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
I'm just happy to know that there's someone out there who's fighting foo! -
I still don't like Radiohead - the vocals. WAAAAY too whiney. I suppose their musicianship and tunes are creative, but I can't get past the vocals.

I always thought that the Black Crowes were Rod Stewart Faces clones - who were themselves Stones wannabes (it's no accident that Ronnie Wood became a Stone). Not being a fan of any of those groups, I will reserve comment otherwise. B) The Smiths had a great sound. They managed to pull off a striking combination of Morrisey's angst-ridden vocals and Johnny Marr's upbeat music. They did get a little tiresome towards the end and it was probably a good thing that they broke up, but those first 5 or 6 albums are classics.

Haven't heard it, but I would think that any alternate tracks from this era of Jack Bruce solo albums would be worth getting.

I agree with everyone's statements about Garbage. Their first album is definitely the best. The second one was OK, and I actually never got around to getting the third. ... but the FIRST one was GREAT! AfricaBrass, I'll give the new SuperGrass more listenings. Their other 2 had to grow (no pun intended) on me, so this probably will, too. If any of you stumble upon The Loud Family's "Plants and Birds and Rocks and Things", pick it up. It's very entertaining. Shades of Todd Rundgren, 10cc, and other pop/rock bands with an edge. For those with an EMusic account, they have a version of "Horse With No Name" on a collection of pop tunes by alternative artists. No matter what you think of the original version, you will definitely like THIS one.

Supergrass (although their new one is disappointing) Aqua Velvets Dandy Warhols The Posies (have broken up) Garbage Yo La Tengo Mermen Loud Family They Might Be Giants

Well............there ya' go. Thanks for the background, mnytime. Who knows WHEN it will come out, then!

I would think if they they are shipping promo sets, then it is pretty much a done deal. Claude - To my knowledge, Jimi never played with Miles. It was something in discussion, but never happened.

Holy Macaroni! I had no idea it was even CLOSE to being released.

Mental note: tape Conan O'Brien on Thursday night
BFrank replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Oh, well. I imagine it had to be an old show, just because of the production involved. I'm sure that 60 minutes (- commercials) would take at LEAST several months to film. -
Wassamattawichyou? Duke Pearson! B)
